Chapter Text
You know how sometimes you just take one look at someone, and you instantly dislike them?
Well, in Min Yoongi’s case that someone was Kim Seokjin.
And it seemed that he was the only one who felt like that towards him, since the rest were absolutely smitten by him which fueled Yoongi’s dislike towards the guy even more.
Even his best friends, Namjoon and Hoseok, were head over heels when it came to the elder, but then again, Yoongi did consider his friends brainless most of the time, so he wasn’t quite surprised.
Luckily, he was a genius ( although others were in denial when it came to his “self-proclaimed title” as those infidels called it), and he wasn’t as easily tricked as them.
He knew that beneath that always-pleasant exterior, there had to be some sort of a secret hiding.
There was just no way that there existed a person who was nice towards everyone all the time, always ready to help anyone, being friendly 24/7, and never complaining about anything.
Kim Seokjin would then have to be a saint, and Yoongi did not believe in saints, therefore he did not believe in Kim Seokjin.
There was no doubt about it.
He was a fake.
Yoongi just wasn’t sure how to prove it.
Usually, he wouldn’t concern himself over such things, since he never cared much about anyone else’s business, however, this time was different.
This time, Kim Seokjin, had meddled in his business, and that pissed Yoongi off.
They all attended the same University, with the difference being that Seokjin, or Jin, as most people called him, was a year older than him.
Namjoon and Hoseok were a year younger than Yoongi, but they were all in the 2nd year currently, since Namjoon was blessed with a high IQ ( a huge waste, if you ask Yoongi, since his best friend was an irreparable klutz and a dork), and Hoseok had enrolled in elementary school 1 year earlier than everyone, so now they were in the same year.
Even when they were in their first year, they have heard of Kim Seokjin, a kind, beautiful, handsome 2nd year student who everyone were obsessing over.
Yoongi had heard people mentioning him in the hallways, girls giggling over how sweet their “oppa” was while the guys talked about how handsome, and friendly he was.
He never paid much attention to it, since he had never encountered the object of everyone’s affection, and also he had no desire to meet him.
Honestly, it kind of pissed him off that some guy was worshiped like that, just because of his good looks, judging by what everyone had said, and his nice personality.
What about hard work?
Wasn’t that supposed to be valued as well?
Was a pretty face more important than working hard for something?
Even though his friends called him lazy, they all knew that when it came to music, Yoongi’s one and only true passion, he was the most hardworking person ever.
He would spend sleepless nights on his laptop in his room, just so he could finish his song, or songs, depending on how inspired he was.
His hard work, and the many things he had to give up, like living with his family in order to go to Seoul, and succeed there, or the fact that he had been doing various part-time jobs, such as pizza delivery, or working as a cashier in a store in the shady part of Seoul during his high school days, was what had landed him a music scholarship at one of the top Universities in Seoul.
So in the end, it was all worth it, the struggle, the sweat, the tears, everything paid off in the end, because finally he was one step closer to his dream of becoming a well-known producer.
So that is why it slightly irked him that this Kim Seokjin dude was so popular, and so appreciated, when there didn’t seem to be any outstanding thing about him, well other than his good-looks, supposedly.
Anyways, Yoongi was never too fond of pretty boys.
He had met a fair share of them during his life, and even hooked-up with a few, since he wasn’t so bad-looking himself, but he was always left disappointed with how snobby, and shallow they were.
Not to mention that if it wasn’t for their pretty faces, they would have probably had a bad life, since their brains weren’t really useful.
Nevertheless, they always seemed to have a better life than Yoongi.
They had more money, they had better job opportunities, basically they had everything handed to them on a silver platter.
Just because of their appearance.
And that is precisely why he wasn’t fond of Kim Seokjin.
Because, he was just like all those pretty boys.
He had never heard anyone talking about his academic achievements, and Yoongi suspected that he was passing through his University days on his good-looks alone, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to admire someone like that.
Just the opposite.
If he ever does encounter that guy, he was going to show him just how much he despised his kind.
“ Aren’t you being too harsh on him, though? You don’t even know the guy, and yet you are being so judgmental?”
his friend Namjoon asked him one day while they were sitting in their usual studying place, in a half café-half photography café in Itaewon, a truly interesting café that Yoongi absolutely loved since one of his hobbies was photography.
“ No, Namjoon, I am just not as blinded by his looks as the rest of you.”
Yoongi replied while taking a sip of his latte.
“ You haven’t even seen the guy. Even in the first year, you refused to check out his fanpage, so you can’t say that you are not blinded by his looks when you haven’t even seen the way he looks.”
Hoseok added, and Yoongi rolled his eyes.
Seriously, the guy was so popular that some crazed fangirls had even made a fanpage dedicated to the “ most beautiful human being on the face of the Earth-Kim Seokjin” as they stated in their page description, and there they posted pictures of their object of adoration, taken secretly, since the guy had no social media.
Well, Yoongi had to admit, that that was the only thing he slightly admired when it came to this Seokjin guy.
In this world where technology and social media were practically controlling the world, for the so-called “ prettiest boy on the University” to not have any account on any social media was pretty unusual.
Even Yoongi had an Instagram account, but it was just because Namjoon created one for him in their 3rd year of high school, saying how it would be a shame not to share his amazing photography skills with the world.
His instagram account, “ The Min Corner”, was filled with pictures that he had taken over the years, of nature, of the cities he had visited, anything that had caught his eye really, and over the years it had gained a pretty impressive number of followers, 400,000 to be more specific.
He didn’t want to admit it, but he was pretty proud of it, and of the fact that 400,000 people appreciated and admired his photography skills.
And it really shouldn’t have come as a surprise that on the first day Seokjin’s fanpage was set up, it had gained 250,000 followers in a span of a few hours, but that didn’t stop Yoongi from hating on the guy even more, and hating the injustice once again, even though it wasn’t Kim Seokjin that had created the fanpage, but still.
“ Even if I ever see the way he looks, I, unlike you, can control my hormones, and won’t become one of his fanboys, like you idiots. I respect only those that gained fame through hard work, and not just through their visuals. Besides, he is probably ignorant and shallow, just like most of the pretty boys I have met.”
Yoongi mockingly said, and Hoseok and Namjoon frowned.
“ Well, I met him, and he is really nice and friendly, and he didn’t seem stupid. So, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.”
Hoseok said, and Yoongi snorted.
“ Whatever. Let’s just agree that we disagree. “
“ Fine, but you are wrong. You should give him a chance.”
was Hoseok’s final answer, before they returned to studying.
As Yoongi was rushing towards his dorm room, trying to protect the music sheets from the sudden downpour, clutching them to his chest, he thought about his friends words.
They called him judgmental, and he was never like that.
Well, except when it came to pretty boys, but still, they were never bothered by his opinion, not until that Kim Seokjin had entered their minds.
Another reason to dislike him-the fact that he was turning his friends against him.
He was looking down, trying to get through the campus as fast as possible, and he was so absorbed in his thoughts that he didn’t even realize that there was someone in front of him.
He had only realized it when he crashed into that person, or when that person bumped into him, he wasn’t sure whose fault it was, but one thing he was sure of was the fact that his music sheets were now scattered across the wet pavement.
All those hours of hard work gone down the drain.
“ Shit!”
he cursed loudly as he bent down to collect his sheets, and to try and salvage them, not even sparing a glance at the person that had caused all of this, until he heard a gentle, apologetic voice.
“ I am so sorry. Let me help you.”
he briefly looked up when he saw the guy crouching down and collecting his sheets, or more like trying to peel them off from the wet pavement, and he only saw a green beanie as the guy had his head lowered while picking up his sheets.
When he stood up, having collected most of his sheets, the guy stood up as well, handing him the rest of the papers.
“ Here.”
the gentle voice said, and Yoongi finally saw the guy’s face.
The first thing he had noticed were huge, doe-like caramel brown warm eyes.
The second thing he noticed was the guy’s flawless complexion.
The third thing he noticed were the biggest lips he had ever seen, but they weren’t big as in some sort of a disgusting way, they were rosy and plump, and just perfectly kissable.
The fourth thing that he noticed was the broadest pair of shoulders he had laid his eyes upon.
The final thing that he noticed was the small, shy smile gracing the guy’s face as he apologized.
“ I am so sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
and even though he had never seen Kim Seokjin before, he had been hearing stories about him ever since the first year, and he was pretty sure that this guy that looks as if he was a piece of art was none other than the guy Yoongi had spent resenting for more than a year.
And just like he told his friends, if he ever met the guy in person, he wasn’t going to be smitten by him, even though he now knew why everyone was so obsessed by his looks.
But, Min Yoongi was not everyone.
So he glared at the guy as he spoke in his icy voice.
“ Well, next time watch where you are going, and get your head out of your ass.”
and he didn’t even wait for the guy’s reaction, although he caught a glimpse of his doe-eyes widening in shock, but he didn’t care, brushing past the “ idol of their University”.
When he came in his dorm room, he did something that he had never before thought of doing.
He went to Kim Seokjin’s fanpage.
His screen was filled with tons of pictures of the same face that he had just encountered, in various places.
“ Kim Seokjin-oppa looking adorable while eating jjangmyeon.”
was the caption of a picture of the boy in a restaurant, his cheeks puffy as if he was a squirrel while he was slurping down his noodles.
“ Jin, looking perfect while sleeping.”
a caption of the photo of a boy sleeping before the class starts, his head buried in his hands on his desk.
Yoongi scrolled down the page, only to be met with more paparazzi photos of everyone’s “ Beloved Jin-Oppa”.
Seriously, people in his University were such stalkers, Yoongi thought, feeling disgusted that someone even followed the guy to the bathroom, and took a picture of him washing his hands.
They probably even tried to take a picture of something else, but even if they had managed, it was nowhere to be seen.
But what disgusted him even more was the fact that this guy didn’t seem bothered by all this stalking.
In most of the pictures he was politely smiling at the camera.
What an idiot.
If somebody followed him around, and tried to take pictures of him every second, invading his personal space, Yoongi would have them killed, while this guy just smiled at them.
So fake, and so needy of attention, Yoongi scoffed.
And what a fucking weirdo he is, Yoongi thought as he stared at the pictures again.
The thing that he noticed was that Kim Seokjin always wore a beanie, or a hat, or a hoodie, even in the bathroom.
It was as if he was hiding something.
Maybe he was bald, Yoongi chuckled, imagining everyone being shocked at their beloved oppa turning out to be a baldie.
He was snapped out of his imagination when he received an email.
He saw that it was from one of his professors.
His heart started racing.
This was the moment he had been waiting for months.
He had applied to be a participant in the contest that their music department was sponsoring.
He applied for the position of the lyricist&producer while Jimin, one of his close friends at the University applied to be a vocalist.
He knew that he and Jimin were among the best in their year, and he was almost sure that they were going to get chosen.
And the lyricist and the vocalist that got chosen would have the chance to produce a song and sell it to one of the 3 major music companies in Seoul, YG, SM, or JYP, depending on which company was the most interested in the song.
He was still anxious, since everyone from the music department in their University could apply, no matter what year they were, and he knew that their University had some really talented people, but he was also sure of his skill, as he opened the email.
“ First of all, I would like to thank all of the students for participating in this project, and trust us, it wasn’t easy to determine the winners among so many talents. However, one person managed to stand out with his producing and lyric-writing skills and that person is a 2nd year music major, Min Yoongi.”
Yoongi stopped reading for one moment, his gaze still glued to the screen as he stared at his name with a large gummy smile finding its way to his pale face.
“ HELL YEAH!”
he exclaimed, his ears buzzing, as he quickly continued to read the mail.
“ Congratulations to Mr. Min, and also to his future partner, a person that managed to capture our hearts with the emotion with which he sang the ballad dedicated to his mother, a 3rd year music minor, Kim Seokjin!”
Yoongi felt frozen and out of breath.
He blinked a few times, thinking how this must be a joke.
Kim Seokjin.
Music minor.
Mr. Min, and also his future partner.
KIM-FREAKING SEOKJIN!
“ WHAT THE HELL!”
Yoongi yelled, quickly getting up from his table and slamming his fist on it.
This was a mistake.
It had to be.
This guy wasn’t even majoring in music, he was an acting major.
Well that is probably how he managed to secure himself this golden chance, with his acting ability, and his looks.
Typical, Yoongi thought, as he clenched his fists.
Injustice, once again.
There was no way he was going to work with that guy.
No way in hell.
He took his jacket and started rushing to his teacher’s office, to give him a piece of his mind, and to demand an explanation.
He was filled with anger as he hurriedly paced through the University, and he heard some screams near him, but he ignored it all, too engulfed with fury to pay attention to anything else.
It was only when somebody bumped into him for the second time today that he stopped.
“ What the…YOU!”
he glared as he practically spat out the words when he saw who had bumped into him.
He was just about to let out all of his frustrations at the cause of it, but then he found himself being pushed into a supply closet behind him.
“ What the fuck do you think you are doing?!”
he screamed with fury at the tall guy whose doe-like eyes were wider then before as he looked behind him in fear, closing the door, and placing a hand on Yoongi’s mouth, making him flinch in surprise and disgust.
“ Shit, just please be quiet for a moment.”
the 24/7 nice guy begged, and cursed, surprising Yoongi, but also confirming his suspicions about the real personality that was hiding behind that pretty face, and Yoongi heard the screams outside the supply closet, louder now.
“ Kim Seokjin Oppa, where are you?!”
and then he glanced at the object of their pursuit who clicked his tongue in annoyance while his hand was still over Yoongi’s lips.
It was surprisingly warm, making Yoongi shudder, and he glared at the guy, hating him even more, and why should he help him when he wants nothing more than to destroy him, so he slapped the guy’s hand away harshly, causing the elder to look at him surprised.
“ I don’t want to help you.”
Yoongi spat out as he pushed past the slightly taller male, his hand reaching the door knob, and oh how he was going to enjoy seeing those girls swarming around their oppa, he smirked to himself, but once again he was prevented from doing so, when crooked fingers wrapped around his wrist, tugging him away from the door.
Okay, now he was seriously going to punch that pretty face.
“ P-please don’t.”
the pretty boy pleaded, but that shit wasn’t going to work on him.
Yoongi wasn’t the one to fall for such crappy acting, so he pulled his hand out of the guy’s grip easily, since the grip on his wrist wasn’t that firm anyways, and he grabbed the front of the pretty boy’s shirt, slamming him to the wall roughly, feeling satisfied when he saw the pretty boy hiss in pain.
“ Listen to me, you little…”
Yoongi started spitting out his words harshly, until his breath hitched.
When he slammed the guy to the wall, it had caused his green beanie to slip from his head, revealing his light golden hair and a pair of…PINK CAT EARS?!
“ The fuck…”
Yoongi muttered, widening his eyes, and he could see the pink ears flinching as he cursed, and also he could see the colour of the guy’s cheeks becoming the same colour as his ears, as he was trying to look anywhere else, avoiding meeting Yoongi’s questioning gaze.
