Dick quietly opened the door to his and Damian’s apartment, shutting the door softly behind him, letting his keys drop onto the small table positioned nearby. Dick toed his shoes off, kicking them towards the shoe rack to be dealt with later, and began walking through the living room into the hallway.
As Dick walked, he slipped his jacket off, bundling it up in his arms, and began loosening his tie. When Dick pushed his cracked bedroom door open, he froze, a smile slowly growing on his face as his eyes fell onto his bed.
Damian was curled up, blankets pulled over his shoulders and bunched in his arms, which were tightly curled against his chest. He was breathing softly, mouth partly opened, his fangs just barely peeking out every time Damian exhaled.
Dick walked past the bed, socked feet stepping silently so as not to wake Damian. He entered his en-suite bathroom, quickly discarding the rest of his uniform alongside his jacket before stepping into the shower.
After scrubbing off the grime accumulated at the Bludhaven Police Department, Dick dried off, then tugged on boxers and a sleep shirt before approaching the bed. He raised the blankets, taking a seat halfway on the bed before gently moving Damian over, making room for himself. Damian stirred, eyes blinking open as he took in his surroundings, before his eyes landed on Dick. A sleepy smile spread on his face, only obstructed from Dick’s view when Damian’s hands rose to rub at his eyes.
“Hey, bud,” Dick whispered, scooting further onto the bed and pulling his legs up with himself, tucking them under the blankets. Dick turned on his side, facing Damian, who had sat up on his elbows.
When Damian was done rubbing his eyes, he opened them back on Dick, a smile growing as he shuffled closer, lying back down.
“Hi,” he whispered, face coming to rest against Dick’s chest. Dick wrapped his arms around him, tugging him closer and resting his face in Damian’s hair, taking in a deep breath.
“I thought you were done sneaking into my room?”
Damian mumbled something back, but before Dick could question him, Damian looked up with half-lidded eyes, “’m hungry.”
Dick smiled, huffing out a laugh as he hugged Damian tighter for a brief second, then slowly he slipped his arms away from Damian.
“Turn around, then you can eat, okay? I don’t want to elbow you.”
Damian nodded, flipping so his back was facing Dick, who pulled Damian back into his chest and then snaked his arm around Damian.
The second Dick’s arm was offered to him, Damian was quick to grab it, latching on quickly, fingers tightly wound as he began eating.
Dick brought his other hand up to Damian’s head, running his fingers through his hair.
Before long, Dick could see the effects of the feeding on Damian, could feel the flare of the sire-fledgling bond within his chest.
After a few minutes, Dick still carding his hand through Damian’s hair, Damian’s bite loosened, letting up slightly. As Damian’s drinking slowed, a quiet purr began in his chest, making Dick smile again, then peer down at Damian’s face.
His eyes were parted slightly, hazy and unfocused as he gulped down blood. Dick pressed a kiss into his hair, pulling his hand away from Damian’s hair to gently wipe away the trail of blood and drool slowly leaking down his face.
Dick could feel the thrum of their bond in his chest; it seemed to beat slowly against his sternum, and Dick was sure Damian was feeling the same effect.
Carefully, Dick pulled Damian off his forearm, letting it rest against Dick’s bicep.
Dick then lifted his arm, examining the bite, two clean puncture wounds sluggishly bleeding. Damian had yet to develop venom, though Dick was sure it would be coming in within the next couple of years.
For now, though, Dick would continue to wince through the initial pain of feedings. So long as Damian was warm and full in his arms, Dick didn’t mind the sting.
Dick brought his arm to his mouth, allowing his venom to pool in his mouth for a few seconds before carefully and thoroughly licking over the wound.
The sting dulled almost instantly. The bleeding slowed. Beneath the sweep of his tongue, skin pulled itself back together, knitting smooth and unbroken.
Once his arm was healed, Dick pulled Damian closer, placing another kiss against his hair before Dick started up a rumbling purr to match Damian’s, hoping to lull him further into his blood high.
Damian didn’t settle, however. He made a soft noise, tugging against Dick’s arm, shifting around, turning in Dick’s arms until he was facing Dick again. Damian shuffled himself against Dick, quickly being situated with his cheek smooshed into Dick’s collarbone.
Damian’s pupils were blown wide, quickly hidden away when Damian’s eyes fell closed. Dick returned to brushing his hand through Damian’s hair.
Damian’s purring picked up, rumbling loudly between the two, his hands coming up to grip Dick’s shirt.
“Easy,” Dick murmured, though there was no real need for it. He adjusted his hold anyway, one hand sliding to the back of Damian’s neck, thumb brushing just below his hairline.
Damian made a small, pleased sound at that, pressing closer, face digging into Dick’s neck. There wasn’t an inch of space left between them now.
“The bond’s loud,” Damian mumbled, voice thick and low.
Dick smiled faintly. “Yeah? Sorry about that.”
Damian let out a faint huff of breath.
“Not bad loud,” Damian said. His fingers tightened once more in Dick’s shirt. “Warm.”
Dick could feel it as well. Still thrumming in his chest, warmth seemingly seeping through his torso and limbs. A soft assurance deep within his body.
Damian hummed, his lashes fluttering as he tried keeping his eyes open before they finally settled shut. Dick watched as Damian’s grip on his shirt slacked, his shoulders loosening as he succumbed to sleep.
His purr deepened, softening before stuttering slightly as he was dragged into sleep. Damian’s breathing evened out, purr dropping in volume, his head resting heavy on top of Dick.
Dick rubbed his nose along his son’s hairline before resting back onto his pillow, making sure to tug Damian closer to his chest.
Within a few minutes, the apartment was silent again, broken only by the soft purrs coming from the small pile of vampires curled against each other.
