Work Text:

"Hey, Huckleberry. What do you want for dinner? I'm thinking some kinda creamy pasta or something." Trinity asks bumping her hips against Dennis's. She leans against the counter as they look up at the inpatient board.

Robby comes to a stop behind them as he's walking by, sticking his head between them before Dennis can speak. "Oh, no, I'm stealing him tonight. If we get off on time that is."

"Oh." Trinity looks between them. "Right, okay then." Robby gives her a grin, patting Dennis's back and walks off continuing whatever he was doing. Trinity turns towards Dennis and grins. "You didn't tell me you were going on a date." She teases.

Dennis takes a confused breath. "I... Uh, didn't know? It's not a date. He probably just needs my help with something."

She gives him a look as if to say 'Seriously?'. "Do you know what day it is?"

"Saturday?"

"The?"

"Fourteenth?" He frowns.

Trinity rubs the bridge of her nose. "Of?"

"February? What's the date got to go with anything?"

"What day is it on the fourteenth of February?"

Dennis rolls his eyes. "Valentine's Day."

"So you're not a complete idiot." She fights her own eye roll.

"No, but I know not to expect a date with my boss." He says flatly.

She chuckles. "Do you remember the last time you 'helped him with something'?"

Dennis knows what she's talking about; he had come home one day about two weeks ago all giddy and she had guessed, correctly, that he had gotten some action with his boss, which he kinda did, but it was just some heat-of-the-moment kisses, nothing more. He didn't tell her that though.

"Shut up. That didn't happen." He blushes and pushes off the counter. "I'm going back to work now." He gives her a pointed look before walking off.

"You keep denying it but your cheeks say otherwise!" She calls after him teasingly.

Hours later as Dennis is changing, Robby peeks his head into the changing room and grins. "Dennis, could you wait for me at the front? I'll meet you there." He pats the doorframe and leaves before receiving a response.

Dennis sighs and adjusts his clothes before heading to the front of the hospital. He walks through the automatic doors and finds Robby already there sitting on his bike. He hands Dennis a helmet and gestures behind him. Dennis puts on the helmet and climbs onto the motorcycle, wrapping his arms around Robby's waist.

Robby rides them a few blocks away, out of the city area, the streets becoming less dense and quieter. He pulls up outside of a small diner, shutting off the engine. He helps Dennis off, taking his helmet and they head inside.

"What are we doing here?" Dennis asks as they sit down at a booth.

"Aren't you hungry?" Robby asks as he picks up the menu, scanning it.

Dennis shrugs. "Sure, I guess. Are you-"

Robby grins keeping his eyes down. "Yeah, I'm gonna pay. Get whatever you want."

Dennis relaxes slightly and picks up a menu. "Thanks." He looks over the menu although he already knows what he's gonna get.

The waiter takes their orders, a burger for Robby and a BLT for Dennis and they talk about work and home as they wait for their food.

"So..." Dennis taps on the table nervously.

"Yes?" Robby grins and leans on the table top.

Dennis shrugs. "I dunno..."

Robby chuckles. "Why are you so nervous? Do I make you nervous?"

"I mean... I guess. I just... I thought you wanted me to help you with something?"

Robby tilts his head in question. "Why would you think that? I said I was going to take you somewhere."

Dennis rubs his neck. "Yeah... But, I didn't think you meant you wanted to take me to a diner."

"You thought I wouldn't feed you?"

Dennis shrugs but laughs softly at him not thinking they'd be eating. Their food arrives just then, and they both thank the waiter before they start to eat.

Dennis pauses mid-bite and looks up at Robby. "Is this a date?"

"Why wouldn't this be a date?" Robby asks taking a bite of his burger.

"I dunno, we don't really have that kind of relationship..."

Robby grins. "I think I remember us having a moment or two one night."

"You didn't acknowledge it afterwards..."

"Neither did you." Robby points out.

Dennis blushes at being called out. "Right." He chuckles. "Okay, so, this is a date?"

"Yes, Dennis, this is a date. A Valentine's date. Is that okay with you?"

"Yep. Yes, that's perfectly fine." He grins and continues eating.

Robby chuckles and shakes his head at Dennis' sudden mood lift. "You really didn't think this would be a date?"

"I didn't want to get my hopes up." Dennis admits. "I just wanted to be practical."

"Good. Come here." Robby leans back and pats his lap. Dennis looks at Robby confused but gets up and moves to sit in Robby's lap. Robby slides them over and turns Dennis so his back is pressed against the wall, pulling their food over to them. "Eat up." Robby wraps his arms around Dennis's waist and grabs a chip munching on it.

"This isn't practical at all." Dennis jokes and continues eating his sandwich.

"You can eat your sandwich so it's practical enough. And look-" Robby picks up the burger with the hand not pinned behind Dennis's back. "I can eat too."

"Ah-" Dennis cups his hands under Robby's burger. "You're gonna drop it everywhere!"

Robby chuckles once more taking a big bite. Dennis sighs and holds the burger together.

"Are you holding it for me?" Robby grins after swallowing his bite.

"If you're going to be immature, yeah."

Robby puts down the burger and pulls Dennis closer against his chest, gently turning his face to look at him. He presses a soft kiss to his lips, cupping his cheek. He pulls back enough to peck his nose.

"Thanks but I can hold my own food, Dennis."

"Uh, yeah... Okay." Dennis nods.

Robby does eventually pull his arm out from behind Dennis to eat properly and they both finish their food. They stay in the diner a little longer, Robby nipping at Dennis's neck causing him to laugh softly and half-heartedly tell him to stop.

Robby eventually does as they stand up. He holds out his hand and Dennis takes it. "Happy Valentine's Day Denny."

"Oh, is it over?" Dennis tries to hide his pout.

"Over?!" Robby shakes his head. "Oh no, we're not done for tonight." He pulls Dennis along, back to his bike. "Come on, I said you were all mine tonight and intend to keep you for as long as possible."

They climb on and head back to Robby's, falling onto his couch, arms wrapped around each other. Robby kisses his cheek, then his forehead and nose once more making Dennis grin.

"So what are we going to do?" Dennis asks, lying on top of him.

"Hmm... I was thinking I could keep you right here, tight in my arms. But if you want to do something else..."

"No, nope, this is good." Dennis nuzzles into his chest happily. "So very good."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." He looks up at Robby. "Okay, wait, so... What does this mean?"

"For us?" Robby asks and Dennis responds with a nod. "Why would it change anything?"

"Huh? So we go back to nothing happened?"

Robby laughs softly at Dennis' words and sits them up, Dennis in his lap. "I was under the impression that we were, you know, together? Did I read that wrong? That's why you didn't realise this was a date?"

"Together? Like since we kissed a few weeks ago? You thought we were dating this whole time?"

"Yep."

"Oh... Oops.." Dennis pouts. "Can we make it official today? Please?"

Robby chuckles and kisses his nose. "Okay, Valentine's Day can be our official 'start day'. Happy now?"

Dennis grins. "Definitely. Very happy. The scandal of having the boss. Exciting."

"Trust me you haven't seen what scandals we can make. But for now..." Robby squeezes Dennis in a bear hug possessively. "Let's forget about everything else. All mine."

Dennis giggles. "All yours."

Notes:

I tried so hard not to make Dennis all giggly and adorable. He's a buff grown man and I'm writing him like a twinky uke. Been consuming too much BL I guess.

I was meant to finish this yesterday but I got roped into babysitting a three-year-old and a seven-year-old from seven in the morning to four and then had to go to that three-year-old's place for a barbecue with said seven-year-old until ten at night. Our family friends were moving that's why I had their toddler, the seven-year-old is my niece. The barbecue was a thank you to my family and me. So let's just say I was flat tired.

Anyway, I had to quickly finish this today, the day after Valentine's Day for me and publish it.

I love you
