Summary:

Soleum writes a pivotal DER wiki entry that changes every fanfiction author's life.

It's Jackson Wang's party world and we're just living in it. For the two of us who may think this is funny, enjoy!

Work Text:

Kim Soleum listens to his desk phone ring and watches it go to voicemail. If it's urgent, they'll call back. He shifts focus back to the screen to put the final touches on his masterpiece.

Today is the day. Soleum is going to post his first Dark Exploration Records wiki entry. One quick read-through to proofread everything and he'll hit send:

An unclassed ghost story with widespread presence on the internet. This ghost story propagates through written word. The following information is considered a Cognitive Hazard and should be viewed by ◼️-level credentialed staff only.

Upon learning of this ghost story, all affected readers will become contaminated with irrepressible urges to write works of fanfiction to post online. Disconnecting from the internet does not abate these urges. At least one, but up to ◼️◼️ works may be required to clear contamination by this infohazard. Proceed with caution.

The origin of this ghost story remains unknown. First known examples are cataloged on websites such as fanfiction[.]net, archiveofourown[.]org, and ◼️◼️◼️[.]com. Memetic repetition of the subject further establishes its hold on certain online subcultures.

The key characteristic of this ghost story is the presence of a party thrown by celebrity Jackson Wang in any written work. Mr. Wang does not need to have dialogue in the written work–to see him mentioned by name alone in relation to his party triggers infection by this ghost story.

Once contaminated, affected individuals experience persistent thoughts of including a Jackson Wang party in their next fanfiction. At last count, the number of Records documenting this phenomenon ranges in the thousands. The only known cure is to post fanfiction containing the infective subject, thereby spreading the contamination.

Once Soleum is satisfied with the formatting, he hovers his mouse over the ‘enter’ button on the DER wiki page. Months of lurking before posting mean that this entry should fit in well, right? Surely a small ghost story such as this one won't cause much of a stir. Soleum clicks and watches the page refresh. A second or so later, his brand new entry displays on the page.

Soleum leans back in his chair and smiles. A brief moment of peace before the phone rings again. Soleum sighs and picks up.

Somewhere very close, yet so far away, Agent Choi sighs and hangs up his desk phone.

“This is the third call we've gotten today about a viral fan…story?” Choi says out loud in the office, mostly to himself.

Scribbling down a few notes from the last caller, Choi makes a mental note to keep tabs on this one. The caller kept rambling about being obsessed with writing about parties. Though Choi has never heard of the fellow, the name 'Jackson Wang' came up during each call. He'll have to do some research later. Before the phone can start to ring again, Choi grabs his lighter and heads for the door.
