Chapter Text
Wren
Wren walked in to the cafe. She had heard things about it but had never visited it before. She didn’t really leave her pack’s territory in fear of running into someone. But Wren eventually got the courage to explore the world outside her pack thanks to her older brother and grandpa.
She opened the door and heard the bell. She saw a far woman at the counter.
“Hi, welcome to CaFae Latte.” The Fae woman said. “What are you getting?”
”hi. Give me a minute to look. I… I’ve never been here before.” Wren replied, subconsciously fidgeting with her hoodie sleeve.
“Oh, take your time.” The Fae woman said. “That’s perfectly fine.”
a woman behind Wren scoffed, making Wren more anxious.
”hey, calm down.” another voice said. Wren saw a nonbinary pin on this person’s jean jacket. They wore a white shirt and a black skirt. “Give this girl a minute. You do not need to rush her. If you keep pushing it, Bob will curse you to be silent for a year.”
That shut the woman up.
The nonbinary person asked, “are you okay?”
”yeah… thanks.” Wren replied.
”no problem.” The nonbinary person said. “I’m JC, or Jennifer Charles. Either one works. What’s your name?”
”Wren.” Wren replied. “Nice to meet you.”
”nice to meet you too.” JC said. “So, what are you thinking about ordering?”
”Just a mocha and…” Wren looked at the available treats. “A blueberry muffin.”
”you got it. Pay here and I’ll get you your food and drink.” JC said, turning to make the coffee. Once they were done, JC handed Wren a blueberry muffin. The werewolf paid for the food and drink.
”thank you.” Wren said.
”no problem.” JC replied, “enjoy.”
Wren sat down at a table and started drinking her coffee.
Damn. Wren thought, this is good. I’m definitely coming back here.
Once she was done, she left the cafe. But she was happy. Normally when she left her home, she was anxious the whole time. But that cafe… it felt safe.
Wren got into her car and started driving home. But she was already thinking of the next time she would return to that supernatural cafe.
But then she saw her sleeve was pushed up her arm. She quickly pulled it down. Wren felt a wave of anxiety.
Did the people at the cafe see her scars? Were they already questioning it? Would they ask about it next time she went to the cafe?
Wren took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart.
It is fine. Wren told herself. It’s going to be fine. I’m probably overthinking this. I’ll be fine. They probably didn’t see it. Yeah… yeah…
with that thought, she had arrived home. The large house was in a forest. The outside of the house was blue with a large wooden deck in the front of the house.
home. Wren thought.
She got out of her car and went to the front door. Her older brother, Caleb, was waiting for her at the door.
”hey, little sis.” The male werewolf said. “How are you?”
”fine.” Wren replied. “Just got back from the cafe in town run by fairies. I think it’s called CaFae Latte.”
”And you didn’t bring anything for me?” Caleb gasped dramatically. “I’m offended.”
”if you wanted anything,” Wren crossed her arms. “You should’ve said something.”
Caleb chuckled. “I’m just messing with you. Maybe bring me a muffin if you go again, okay?”
”fine.” Wren smirked. “Only if you do my chores for me.”
Caleb groaned. “Fiiiiine. Anything for my baby sister.” He ruffled her hair.
Wren smacked his hand away. “Stop it!”
”nah.” Caleb laughed.
Wren rolled her eyes and stepped inside the house. She went up the stairs to her bedroom.
It was small, but she didn’t mind. Her walls were light blue. She had a bed in the corner with a nightstand next to it. Her closet was small as well.
Wren looked away from her closet, dark memories filling her mind.
Why did she do what she did? Wren wondered. I wish things were different. But I guess constantly going through “what ifs” isn’t going to fix the past. I just have to keep moving forward. I can’t change the past. But I can maybe try to control my future.
With that, she laid down, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.
