Chapter 1: Y’thralik: Eldritch God of Perception and Deception

Chapter Text

Eldrich character idea: Y’thralik

Y’thralik, as The God of Perception and Deception, manipulates human senses, emotions, and memories, trying to understand and control how humans experience their reality. Their presence distorts the environment and interactions, making everything seem just slightly "off," and their influence spreads through whispers, false memories, and subtle manipulations. They infiltrate humanity not just to observe but to shape and mold their understanding of reality toward an unknowable cosmic end.

Why entering with Humans:

It wants to understand human emotions or behaviors, seeing them as incomprehensible yet fascinating.

It’s trying to infiltrate humanity, studying and learning to subtly manipulate them for some cosmic end.

Appearance: The character can wear human clothing but might subtly distort it, like wearing a suit that’s always slightly too large or small, giving them a disjointed, strange presence. Their eyes could be slightly off—perhaps not blinking in sync, too large, or glowing faintly in the dark.

Mannerisms: They may not fully understand social norms, making their behavior odd. They might stare too long, speak in a strange cadence, or misunderstand concepts like humor, sarcasm, or intimacy.

Voice: Their voice could be unnerving in tone or pitch—perhaps it echoes subtly, carries an unnatural resonance, or sounds almost mechanical.

Forms :

A being that constantly shifts between forms (tentacles, multiple faces, or even unnatural, glowing symbols that briefly appear on the skin).

A creature that wears the skin of a human or another being, but its true features leak through (flashes of anotherworldly traits when agitated).

Power:

Whispers from the Void

Description: The character can implant fleeting whispers or voices into the minds of those around them. These voices aren’t necessarily commands but disturbing or cryptic thoughts that seem to come from nowhere. The whispers are often unnerving, causing confusion, paranoia, or a sense of being constantly watched.

Example: Someone might hear their name whispered in the middle of a crowded room, but when they turn around, no one is there. The voice could also say cryptic things like “Don’t trust him” or “You’re next.”

Cloak of the Unseen

Description: The Eldritch being can shift into a form of semi-invisibility, though it’s not true invisibility. They appear like a shadow at the edge of one’s vision, or they flicker in and out of sight in the corner of the eye. This makes people uneasy, as though they are always being watched, but they can never catch the being fully.

Example: In a crowded room, people might catch glimpses of them out of the corner of their eye, only for them to vanish when looked at directly. The being may also leave traces of their presence—like a chill or a brief, unsettling static noise.

Eldritch Symbiosis

Description: The entity can forge a temporary, parasitic connection with a human, subtly influencing their thoughts, emotions, or physical sensations. This might manifest as a sudden surge of power or confidence, or the person may start to act in a way that feels alien to them—like the character is “wearing” them.

Example: The human might feel an overwhelming urge to perform a certain action, like walking into a room they know is dangerous, or they may begin to speak in an unnatural way, as if they have someone else’s voice in their head.

Psychic Imprint

Description: The being can leave behind “imprints” on locations or objects, subtly altering them in ways that invoke a sense of fear or disturbance. These imprints can make a place feel wrong, like something sinister is always lurking just out of sight.

Example: The character might touch an object, and later, anyone who comes into contact with it will feel an oppressive presence, like they’re being watched. A once-pleasant room may now have a lingering coldness, and people may feel anxious or uneasy while inside.

Mind Fracturing

Description: The character has the ability to cause brief, intense mental pain or a sense of “mental breakage” in individuals, overwhelming their senses and perception of reality. This doesn’t last long but can leave people disoriented or mentally scarred.

Example: A person may experience a brief, overwhelming sense of vertigo or déjà vu, followed by a rapid “flash” of incomprehensible visions or sensations—glimpses of the horror's true form, images of impossible geometries, or alien landscapes.

Lurking Presence

Description: The entity can induce a feeling of being constantly watched. Even when they are not physically present, people will experience a sensation of dread or unease, often accompanied by inexplicable chills or the sensation of invisible eyes upon them.

Example: Someone could be in a room by themselves but constantly feel like someone is standing just behind them. They might turn around and see nothing, but the feeling persists.

False Memories

Description: The entity can subtly alter or implant memories in others, making them question their own experiences. These false memories aren’t perfect recreations; there’s always something slightly “off” about them, like a dream that feels real, but something is wrong about it.

Example: A person might remember an event happening differently than it did, like thinking they had a conversation with the character when it never happened. These false memories might grow over time, making the person unsure of their own past.

Corruption of Reality

Description: The Eldritch horror can cause the physical environment to deteriorate or distort in odd ways around them. Buildings may seem to age prematurely, or rooms might become uncomfortably hot or cold for no apparent reason. The character’s influence can make things feel ancient, alien, or simply off in a way that humans can’t fully grasp.

Example: A perfectly normal building could have walls that seem to stretch or contract slightly, creating a sense of claustrophobia. Faint symbols might appear in the walls or floors, then fade when someone tries to look at them directly.

Invisibility to Technology

Description: The being’s presence interferes with technology around them, rendering them invisible to cameras, microphones, or other electronic devices. While people can still see and hear them in person, any attempt to record them or track them electronically fails.

Example: A person may try to take a picture or record a video of the entity, only to find that the footage is distorted, blank, or corrupted in some inexplicable way.

Y’thralik would be the god of how humans perceive the world around them—the senses, the mind, and the ways people interpret and misinterpret reality. This god controls the subtle mechanisms that govern human understanding and the distortion of reality, manipulating the line between what is real and what is illusory. They also influence emotions, thoughts, and memories, guiding the manipulation of perception itself, making the truth feel elusive and uncertain.

Sub-domains:

Manipulation of Senses: Y’thralik can alter the way humans see, hear, or feel things. Their senses might deceive them, causing them to experience sensations or events that aren’t there or that are twisted beyond recognition.

Emotional Confusion: The god’s influence on the human psyche allows them to warp emotions—making joy feel hollow, grief feel distant, or anger feel inexplicably overwhelming. This deity seeks to understand how emotions influence decisions and to distort them for their own unknown purposes.

Reality Distortion: This includes the power to subtly warp the environment, causing spaces to feel off or unnerving, or creating physical changes that defy logic—like time feeling stretched or memories becoming hazy and unreliable.

Memory Manipulation: Y’thralik would have the ability to plant false memories or alter existing ones, making people doubt their own recollections and experiences. Over time, they could blend memories of the past with fabricated events, causing a person to lose touch with their own history.
