Summary:

Will Riker decides the children of the Enterprise will be celebrating Halloween.

Captain Picard is not so sure.

Work Text:

“Don’t worry, Captain. We assigned Dr. Crusher to you. Wes is covering their quarters,” Riker says.

“We all have replicators. Explain to me again why children will be coming to my door, begging for food?” Picard asks.

“It’s an Earth tradition popular in the western hemisphere,” Data begins, but Riker cuts him off.

“It’s Halloween. You give candy to kids and they dress up in costumes and everyone has a good time. The kids have been working on their costumes for weeks.” Riker grins that shit eating grin of his that always comes out when he knows he’s cornering Picard into something that will inevitably be hilarious. For Will.

“And you assigned Dr. Crusher to me because..?”

“Well, sir. I know children aren’t your strong suit and I thought you might have more fun if you had a… partner in crime? So now everyone has a buddy. Geordi and Data, Deanna and I, Worf and Wes.” Riker explains. “We’re playing poker afterwards.”

“All right, Number One. I will participate in your Halloween festivities as long as I am not required to wear a costume,” Picard says.

“I have no costume requirements,” Riker says.

“Good.”

“I don’t know what the good doctor has planned for you, though,” Riker says, grin bigger than ever.

Picard just groans.
