RGB Scale Mind (Memories in Black and White)

Summary:

You might have maybe saved the world in some sort of past life. Perhaps that's why, in your nightmares, you've been catching flashes of reds, blues, and green amidst your memories of fragmented black and white.

[Work in Progress + Revamp]

Notes:

This book is gender-neutral, but references another author's work which was written specifically for women. You'll see a female player character from X and Y mentioned, implied to be a past iteration of you.

It also pays homage to another story, from which I was inspired, but don't reference too closely. This is out of respect for the creator, who is listed at the top of the page! Please go and show them some love, their work is really, really good!

Chapter 1: OPEN BETA - EDIT LOG - YOU CAN SKIP THIS

Summary:

Each romantic pairing will get its own time. This is expected to be an extremely longform fic, which I've not got a lot of experience in. As such, it's going to need a lot of strengthening before I can give everyone their proper 'screen-time'.

Chapter Text

OPEN BETA:

You're welcome to read and leave comments, thoughts, and suggestions.

It's all a work in progress, and it's a messy process. Some days are better than others - some bits are stronger than others.

This chapter will be deleted when revisions are essentially completed.

I had to step away from RGB scale, but I'm ready to return to it.

First things first, the chapter revamps. I had a story in mind, but my busy schedule and overwhelming stress produced some confusing tone shifts and a plot that was hard to follow. This I intend to fix before uploading any new chapters.

I'll keep a public edit log in this chapter, so that you know where I last left off in my revising.

(I'm a madlad who edits in the AO3 editor. Yes I have lost work. I've tried other platforms, but the easiest remains just using the text editor.)

2026 - AUGUST

1ST  - Chapters 1 and 2 going through the first round of workshopping.

(Listed as Chapters 2 and 3 with this chapter up.)

13TH - Sparse lines added in various spots

14TH - More minor edits in several chapters

15TH - Similarly to yesterday, trying to hone what's already there in the early chapters.

17TH - more work on the nuts and bolts.

18TH - Trying to consider how to convey what I'm going for without telling too much outright.

20TH - I'm concerned with show don't tell and character motivations, but I'm going to write a first pass for everything to get it down and then fix those things later. None of these relationships are meant to be straightforward. Perhaps sometimes they're easy, or difficult, poorly timed, ill suited, barely there at all.

27TH-29TH - More revisions, trying to hammer out melodramatic parts.

AUGUST 31ST REVIEW:

I'm working slowly, but I think doing a little bit over a longer span of time is better than nothing. I'll be looking for a better workflow setup, but for now, things are alright. August has come to an end, and as we get into SEPTEMBER. I'd like to focus on a mixture of quality and quantity. There's a lot of plot points to juggle, being multi-regional, but that's not a problem at all. Just a healthy challenge!

2026 - SEPTEMBER

I probably won't make daily edit logs anymore, and will switch to reflections when I feel I've made chunks of progress :-)

SEPTEMBER 2ND - Just because I made the decision to have L remember who you are when the book takes place, doesn't mean he always has. That's an intentional plot point, and while it might have been more fun to have him discover it with some horror, there's plans to return to that bit of story that contains too many spoilers for early on in the book.

SEPTEMBER 4TH - Made the intro a little longer. I'm not afraid of dragging it out, I just worry about the emotional beats landing in the beginning without any preamble. It's not perfect, and a little unorthodox, but I'm chiselling away at it a little at a time.

I was going to treat it as a re-release and take all the chapters down, but I've decided to just edit in real time.

That means as of AUGUST 1ST, anything already written may be subject to change.

The plot points are still largely the same, but it needs a clarity pass.

Well, what do you say? Ready to play again, the same old stories, in a slightly different way?
