Chapter Text
Rodrick had to transfer his senior year. He was too much trouble at his old school and got expelled for reasons he would never outrightly say.
“Well it’s time for a fresh start Rodrick!” His mother said to him at the breakfast table. “A fresh start, meaning you need to get your act together this year,” His father was stern. “Of course you guys, I’m the best son you guys will ever have,” Rodrick was sarcastic. His parents gave each other an annoyed but also worried look.
Rodrick turned into the school parking lot with My Chemical Romance blaring, everyone around him giving looks, looks of annoyance except for one boy.
He went inside the counselors office where he finds an old woman and that same boy from earlier. “Mr. Heffley?” “It’s Rodrick.” She looked at him up and down before telling him how “This young man, Ben, will be showing you around today.” Turned to the boy she says, “Now Ben, we’re holding you to high expectations, this school day will go to your necessary volunteer hours.” Ben awkwardly smiled at her then walked out to the halls with Rodrick.
“So you’re the guy with the van? The one that was playing My Chemical Romance?” The two went on to talk about their interest in rock music while roaming the halls. Ben was supposed to show Rodrick to his classes but they both decided to start the school year with some fun and skip class.
The two went to all the lunches together but one in particular stuck out to Rodrick.
He stared at her long blonde hair.
“What are you gawking at Rodrick?” Ben laughed, eventually realizing what it was. “No way.”
“What?!”
“No way you’re making goo goo eyes at Regina George,” Ben laughed.
“So that’s her name,” Rodrick says while staring at her.
“Yeah well there’s no way in hell you’ll ever have a shot with her, she has a boyfriend and he’d totally beat your ass for even thinking about getting at her.” Rodrick drowned out the sound of Ben’s voice and couldn’t help but admire her. Said admiration was cut short when all of the sudden he saw the boyfriend Ben was talking about.
“Haha I told you, there’s no way,” Ben laughed. “Yeah well at my old school all the chicks were into me, what’s so different about her? If I want her I’ll get her, just watch Ben.” He gave Rodrick a shrug and changed the conversation.
Once again Rodrick found himself gazing at her. What he told Ben was how he really felt, he was enamored with her and he had to speak with her.
