Work Text:
Sam had just fallen asleep; he could not remember the last time he was able to sleep, but with each passing hour a child disappeared from the town, no trace left behind. When they were able to solve it, he just wanted to get to the bunker and fall on the first flat surface he could find.
After they got into the Impala, Dean suggested that they get some food and dessert... That's when the whole argument started. Gabriel wanted cake and Dean wanted pie. Castiel and Sam decided to stay out of that minefield and just try to sit back and relax.
When he least expected it, Castiel felt a weight on his shoulder, turning his head to the side with a curious look only to see that Sam had actually fallen asleep.
“Cake is so much better than pie," Gabriel told the older Winchester, the word pie leaving his mouth with disgust.
Dean had looked at the Archangel like he had insulted his late mother, "You son of a bitch, pie is way better!!" Thanks to the argument they were having, the car hasn't even been started; the only thing that they did was throw insults at one another.
When Sam moved his face to bury it further on the Angel's shoulder, Cas decided it had been enough. "Take this argument somewhere else; Sam is sleeping"
Gabe was the first to turn around. "Come on Bro, Samantha won't wake up over---"
Before he could finish talking, Castiel interrupted him, frowning at the older siblings. "Sam worked over 72 hours without rest in order to solve the case, shut up or get out." He did not care that they were all sitting on the Impala; Sam needed rest and Cas would make sure he got it even if they were in the car.
Dean turned around next; he knew Sammy needed to rest but at the same time he could not let Gabriel win over cake being more delicious than pie. "Come oooon Castiel, you know Pie is so much bett--- "
Castiel turned to look at Dean, his eyes glowing a soft white blue in warning "NOW"
Dean and Gabriel froze for a few seconds before turning to each other. "Sooo...how about we get both?" Gabriel said while sticking his lips out. Dean turned completely to start the car. "Both it is"
Both could still feel Castiel's eyes on them, almost making the hairs in the back of their necks stand up. When the blue eye angel was sure the other two would behave, he turned to look at Sam to confirm he was still sleeping. The corner of his mouth lifted to draw a small smile on his face, raising his free hand using his index and middle finger to brush a lock of hair that covered Sam's face.
“Rest well Sam, I will guard your dreams so that you may recover fully," whispered Castiel before he turned to look in front, only to see Gabriel giving him a teasing smile and a wiggle of his eyebrows.
Castiel could only roll his eyes before looking out the window, knowing that Gabriel would start questioning him after they arrive at the bunker.
