A Special Day for a Special Vulcan

Summary:

Today is a day that Spock will remember for the rest of his life.

Notes:

I took a few liberties with the story. Do Vulcans celebrate special occasions? I would like to believe that.

Today is my daughter's 34th birthday (geez, I'm getting old), so this fic is a little self-indulgent.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Today is a special day for James T. Kirk. However, his bondmate and spouse, S'Chn T'Gai Spock, truly deserves this day.

It's not their anniversary; however, the pair does celebrate their official bonding and human marriage every year; the day is just as special.

It is Spock's birthday, and James has planned an intimate dinner for the two of them, along with a gift that he believes is suitable for his husband.

Kirk had to plan extensively and communicate with Spock's mother, Amanda, to determine the exact date of his birthday, as Vulcans typically do not celebrate birthdays.

Kirk feels nervous. He wants everything to be perfect, from the carefully prepared meal to the gift that he hoped would resonate with Spock’s unique heritage and personality.

He excused himself from the bridge exactly 1.23 hours before the end of his bridge shift, leaving Spock with the conn, much to the puzzlement of the first officer, who acknowledged him with a raised brow and an "aye, sir."

Kirk already has the gift wrapped: sheet music from Spock's favorite musician (although he would deny he has such a preference).

Now it's a matter of waiting until Spock returns to quarters after his shift.

When Spock arrives after his shift, his eyes slightly widen in surprise as he sees all his favorite foods on a table with music from his favorite composer playing in the background. The sheet music is beside the Vulcan's ka'athyra, ready to open at any time.

"Happy Birthday, beloved," Jim said softly, a loving smile spreading across his face.

Spock's expression softened as he took in the scene, a rare flicker of appreciation shining in his eyes. "You have exceeded my expectations, Ashayam," he replied. "I did not expect this level of thoughtfulness from you."

Jim's heart swells with joy at Spock's response. "I wanted to make this day special for you, just like you make every day special for me."
