Work Text:
As the first strums of the guitar and the beat of the drums filled the room, Caitlyn's eyes closed and she could almost feel the Last Drop stadium and the deafening crowd that had helped bring her back from the brink of despair and failure. The reports she'd been working through for the Institute drifted into irrelevance as memories flooded back.
It was not an understatement that this song had changed the course of her life- hockey, the Sumprats team… Vi.
As if summoned by thought alone, Vi shimmied through the door to the kitchen, singing along shamelessly. "Won't be turned around and I'll keep this world from…"
"…dragging me down, gonna stand my ground." Caitlyn finished the line and turned towards her, and then they were in each others arms.
Singing together, Vi slide her arms around Caitlyn's lower back and twirled her around. "…and I won't back down."
As the chorus kicked in, their foreheads pressed together, Caitlyn's arms came up to lace through her wife's hair. They swayed softly to the music, both remembering a time before, and yet, would not trade anything for how things had worked out.
Hey, baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey, I will stand my ground
And I won't back down
