Ravio was stuck.
Well, no, not stuck exactly, but Sheerow had flown in an hour ago to inform him of Link’s return, and Link had been so tense lately! He needed to relax some. So Ravio had decided to surprise his husband by (finally) cleaning up the artifacts and magical items around the house!
Except.
He’d sort of… boxed himself in.
He’d stacked all of the sellable things to the right, nice and neatly- the rings went here, the silk bedsheets went there, the dishes went on top- then did the same with the other boxes- magic items, cursed items, weapons, et cetera. He’d paused and taken a look around- good, now everything was sorted-
Wait, he should actually move the dishes next to the silverware! Except he needed to shove this huge tower of boxes first-
“Hm.” Ravio stopped, wiping his forehead. He looked around. “Oops.”
-And now he needed to un-box himself, especially if he was going to let Link and his brothers into their house.
Legend all but stormed down the path. He wasn’t angry, far from it- he was happy to be home, happy to see Ravio again- but it was common knowledge by now that Legend didn’t do emotions. Even if half the Chain knew about his husband, it was far easier to scowl about it and hide his excitement with grumbles and growls.
Well, in public at least. As soon as he got a moment alone with Ravio he was going to-
“There it is!!”
Legend looked up from his practiced scowling. He’d been so busy pretending he wasn’t eager that he’d almost missed it- his house on the hill, his apple trees out front, his garden- his home.
He picked up his pace, ignoring the snickers from Wild and Twilight, and soon he was standing in front of the door. He turned the handle, gave it a shove-
Nothing.
He frowned.
“What’s wrong?” Four asked from behind him.
“Door’s stuck,” Legend replied, giving it another shove. He gritted his teeth, bracing himself, and gave it another push. Something scraped the floor inside, and the door opened- but barely an inch.
Twilight whistled. “Here, let me,” he said once Legend looked over.
Legend stepped aside and let the rancher try. Twilight shoved- his boots skidded back- the door was forced open another two inches… and stopped.
“Ravio!” Time called out. “Are you in there?”
Silence, then a muffled voice from within. “Oh! Hello, Time! Yes, I’m in here, I’m just a bit stuck right now. Just give me- give me a few minutes to… oh dear.”
“‘Oh dear?’” Legend repeated, fighting back a wave of alarm. He shoved forward to look inside, but all he could see were boxes. “What do you mean, ‘oh dear??’”
“Mister Hero!!” Indistinct as it was, Ravio’s delight was obvious. “You’re home! Everything’s fine, I was just hoping to have this done before you got back- ack!!”
There was a loud thud.
“Ravio??” Legend called, his heart beating faster. “Rav!!”
“Legend!!” It was Wind. “How attached are you to the windows??”
“We’re not smashing the windows,” Warriors said. “I’m sure we can find a way to-”
“Aaaaaaaahh!!”
Crash!
Legend looked up at the familiar shriek, eyes wide. “Smash the windows!!”
They made it inside- with minimal glass shards on the floor, which Legend was sure he’d be grateful for later- and stopped. There were boxes everywhere.
“No wonder we couldn’t get in,” Warriors remarked.
“Were you two planning on moving before you joined us?” Sky asked.
Legend shook his head, taking it all in. “No,” he replied tensely. “This is new- Ravio!”
No answer.
They split up and spread out through the house, shifting the boxes and chests as they went, and it wasn’t long before Legend and Wind found the living room- or the entrance to the living room. It was blocked off, like everything else, with a towering stack of boxes- except this one had toppled over into an absolutely massive pile.
“Wow,” Wind said. “This is… a lot.”
Legend snorted. “This is after Ravio sold half of it.”
Wind laughed. “Is there anything he doesn’t try to sell?”
“Nope.” Legend continued moving the boxes. “I keep telling him not to, but-”
“Over here!!”
Legend straightened up. Wind sounded urgent. “You found him??”
Wind was hauling a large chest away from the pile. He glanced up, looking worried. “Come help me!!”
Legend was there in an instant, taking the heavy chest and setting it aside. He turned back- “Shit!!”
It was Ravio, all right- or at least his hand, sticking limply out from underneath the boxes.
“Go get the others!!” Legend snapped, all but diving to the floor. He didn’t look to see Wind leave the room, instead seizing the nearest box and hurling it away. He worked hard, frantically trying to dig through the pile, and was soon joined by Time and Twilight. They started shifting the pile, soon uncovering Ravio- dazed but at least somewhat conscious.
“Rav!” As soon as he was able, Legend pulled his husband free. “Ravio, say something-!”
There was a groan, and familiar green eyes finally focused on Legend. He blinked a few times, then sat up and raised a hand to his head. “Ow.”
Legend let out a shaky breath, tilting his head to rest gently against his husband’s. “Thank Lolia,” he managed. He pulled back, gaze darting over every inch of Ravio. There were no visible indications that he was hurt, but Legend knew that didn’t mean much. “What happened??”
Ravio pointed to the pile of chests. “I was trying to move things around,” he said. “You’re always telling me about the mess in here, and when Sheerow came and told me you were coming, I thought I’d surprise you! You’ve been so stressed out lately, with this quest Hylia has you going on.” He gave a sheepish smile. “I guess I’m not so great at organization. I accidentally boxed myself in, then when I tried to get out one of the piles fell on top of me.”
“Idiot,” Legend said fondly.
Ravio hummed, leaning into his side. “Maybe, but you’re stuck with me, so…”
Legend snorted a small laugh, taking Ravio’s hand and lacing their fingers. “So that makes me the bigger idiot, huh?”
Someone cleared their throat, and Legend remembered with a start that there were other people in the room besides them. He jerked backwards, cheeks likely as pink as his hair, and looked up to see Time fighting a smile. Beside him was Hyrule, who rolled his eyes. “You’re both idiots. Got it. Move so I can look.”
Legend reluctantly scooted back to make room. He refused to let go of Ravio’s hand, and was rewarded with a small squeeze.
“Rav?”
“Yes, Link?”
“Don’t pull any more boxes down on yourself.”
