Turns Out Coming Out to Your Friend isn’t Half Bad!

Summary:

Marco and Star find out they have something in common.

Written for a daily Pride Month Challenge
Day Ten: Coming Out

Notes:

Hey y’all so anyone else think these two are queer because I think they are

Anyways, hello SVTFOE fandom! I haven’t been here in. A very long time. But when I was brainstorming ideas for this challenge, I thought of these two, and thus this fic was born. I can’t say I’m a fan of them as a couple, but as friends? They’re literally incredible.

Without further ado, here’s your fic!

Content warnings for this fic include mentions of biphobia, but nothing other than that :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Can I ask you something?” Marco asked one day, himself and Star draped over the couch and laser-focused on a video game.

“Of course!” Star assured him, her gaze never wavering from the game. She wasn’t even the slightest bit worried, and something about that made Marco feel less anxious as well. Of course Star wouldn’t mind. This wasn’t even the most surprising thing the two of them had experienced since they’d met.

“What would you say if I liked guys?” Marco said in a rush.

Star tilted her head. “Well, obviously! Alfonso and Ferguson are guys. I would hope you like your friends!”

“Not like that,” Marco clarified. “I mean the same way I also like girls.”

“Ohhhh,” Star replied, drawing out the word. “Well, why didn’t you tell me that? That, like, doubles your dating options! I could’ve been the best wingwoman ever!”

“I was worried you’d think it was weird,” Marco admitted quietly.

“Why?” Star asked. “Is that weird on Earth?”

“A little bit?” Marco admitted. “Most people don’t really like that much? Especially if you’re bisexual—that’s what I’m pretty sure I am—because so many people are telling you to ‘pick a side’ or something.”

“Well, that’s dumb,” Star pointed out. “It’s not like that on Mewni. I feel that way about girls and guys, or whoever, just fine. Nobody makes me ‘pick a side’.”

Marco paused, staring at her in confusion. “You like girls?”

“Yeah?” Star raised an eyebrow, her grin never wavering. “Remember Brunzetta? She was pretty.”

Marco chuckled. “Yeah, okay. Fair enough.” He paused. “So…we’re cool?”

Star nodded. “Well, obviously. I couldn’t get mad at you for liking guys when I just said I like girls.”

“True,” Marco agreed. “So…wanna get back to the game, then?”

“We stopped playing?” Star asked, and it was then that Marco realised that they hadn’t actually paused the game, and that she’d still been playing the whole conversation.

Of course it had gone over well. Why had he expected anything different? This was his best friend—and now it seemed they had one more thing in common.

Notes:

Fellas I can’t tell you how satisfying it is when someone comes out to you getting to be like “HEY SAME DUDE!!” If you know you know
