Work Text:

Dear Mr. K. Dynamight Bakugo and Mrs. K. Extract Bakugo,

The Hero Public Safety Commission would humbly like to offer your agency a place in our upcoming ‘hero communities’ program. To briefly summarize the program, neighboring hero agencies will each be provided with a form of housing in a safe, secure neighborhood, large enough to accommodate the heroes in your agency, as well as their immediate families. We’re planning to implement this idea due to the recent number spike of increased hostage situations in hero families. The idea is that villains would not be able to get into the gated community due to the security measures and the sheer amount of heroes constantly in the area.

The Dynamight Extract agency is on our priority list, including (but certainly not limited to) the number of high ranked heroes employed in your agency, the presence of a minor in your immediate family, and the relations/friendship with Deku. To further discuss the details, ask questions, or express your interest level please contact me. We hope this letter finds you in good health, especially considering Extract’s current private medical leave, as well as we hope you consider the offer. If all goes well, we hope to hear from you soon.

The room was filled with quiet ambience, Aiya was asleep for the night, the lights were dimmed, the TV was playing near-silently for background noise.

Kaita was keeping herself busy, looking into kindergartens that were secure enough to deal with heroes, and had open spaces in the spring. It was a welcome distraction, both distracting her from her sore back and being productive. However, being extra emotional wasn’t helping. Looking into kindergartens meant her baby was growing up, and, quite frankly, she was growing too fast for her liking. Long gone was the little baby who needed her for everything, and cried all the time. Slowly fading away was the toddler who was a spitting image of her father, for better or for worse. Quickly growing up before her eyes.

“Hey, baby, c’mere, you should see this,” Katsuki called out, reading over the letter, pulling Kaita from her thoughts. “The commission came up with an actually not-shit idea.”

“Let me see…” Kaita muttered, making her way over to where her husband was sitting, she was rubbing her slightly swollen belly through her soft, oversized shirt.

“They want to implement a housing system for the heroes,” he explained, handing her the paper. “To keep our families safe or some shit.”

Kaita paused, reading it over for a minute. “No, I definitely have a few questions, but it’s not shit. At all.”

“Ya think?” asked Katsuki, a bit surprised.

“Definitely. They’re actually thinking about our families. Have you seen the numbers lately? More than twenty-five percent of hero-based families have had kidnappings and assaults and break ins, and the list goes on. We could very well be next, and I want our kids to be safe,” Kaita explained. “Plus, the kidnappings are like the number one reason why Toshi and Denki haven’t applied to be foster parents yet, so we wouldn’t be the only ones at our agency benefiting…”

“That’s true, and those are really fucking good points, but so many heroes in one place could also have the opposite effect, Kate. Really damn fast, we could draw those fuckers in,” Katsuki pointed out. “Puts more of a target on everyone .”

“It wouldn’t hurt to call and ask some questions, would it?” Kaita wondered aloud. “We are the number one and number twenty heroes, and almost everyone else at the agency falls somewhere in between, Kats, we’re definitely going to be targeted at some point.”

“It wouldn’t hurt…” Katsuki agreed. “It sounds like whole gang of idiots would be living with us, though.”

“Yeah, but would that be such a bad thing? It’d be easier to find babysitters, and it’d be easier to keep track of everyone.” Kaita reminded him, shrugging. “Between the undergrounders at our agency and the big names, everyone’s a target. It keeps everyone safe. I guarantee Iida’s going over the same things right now, having Shoto and Deku at the Ingenium agency.”

“Yeah, it still sounds like it’s gonna be a shitty hot mess!”

“Keep your voice down, unless you wanna be the one putting her back to bed?” Kaita lectured.

“No ma’am…” he rolled his eyes.

“Y’know what’s weird?”

“What?”

“They sent it to the apartment, wouldn’t it make more sense to send it to the office like they normally do,” Kaita questioned. “Why the hell-?”
“Whatever, we’ll sleep on it and come up with questions in the morning,” Katsuki sighed, interrupting her before she could think about it too hard, re-reading the letter. “It’s a damn lot to think about.”

“Let’s go to bed, then. I’m literally so exhausted and you have an early patrol in the morning,” Kaita suggested, leaning her head on his shoulder with a sigh.

“I’m gonna finish up the damn dishes, then I’ll be there, okay?” Katsuki smiled softly. In the last few years (thanks to the unpredictability of having a toddler around), he’d slowly started to break his habit of being asleep by eight pm, he still went to bed considerably earlier than most, but not as much as he used to. “How’s your back?”

“It still hurts like a bitch, but those techniques my OB recommended are really helping,” Kaita mumbled.

He lazily wrapped his arm around her, mumbling, “I’m glad.”

“Hurry up and do the dishes so we can go to bed,” she whined.

“You can go without me, idiot,” Katsuki playfully rolled his eyes, busying himself by filling the dishwasher. “I’ll be there in a few minutes, I promise.”

“Fine… just hurry up…” Kaita grumbled, turning to waddle her way down the hall.

“Are you sure I look okay?” Kaita awkwardly shuffled in her seat, adjusting her dress for what seemed like the millionth time. “It kinda looks like I’m smuggling a watermelon into the gala.”

“No, Kate, you don’t look okay, you literally look gorgeous, like a damn model. Aiya, tell Mommy what you told me earlier about a princess,” Katsuki encouraged.

“Mommy, you’we so pwetty, you look like a pwincess! You have a pwincess dwess and evewything!” she grinned. “When we get home we should play pwincesses!!”

“Aww, thank you sweetheart, you’re so pretty, too,” she smiled at her daughter.

Across from them, Mina and Emma decided to chime in, “Yeah, girl, you two are, like, totally gorgeous!” Mina beamed.

“Literally, I’m so jealous,” Emma yapped.

The air in the limo went still for a moment as everyone processed what the girl had just said, before erupting into laughter and giggles. Even Katsuki, who was as intense as ever and hard to crack, chuckled a bit.

“See, I wasn’t kidding, you make an actual model jealous,” Katsuki pointed out. “You look great.”

“The real question is what the press is gonna think,” Kaita pointed out. And, no one denied it, because they all knew that was the truth. It didn’t matter how great you looked, if a reporter noticed a flaw, it would spread and be talked about for ages. While being pregnant was by no means a ‘flaw,’ the public was blissfully unaware of why Extract had been off duty for months, and casually showing up to a formal event almost nine months along was definitely a dramatic reveal. It could almost certainly be considered a large-scale publicity stunt.

However, there was no way out of attending, as this was certainly an important event for the agency, her career, and even her personal life. The gala invited specific heroes, whole agencies, in fact, that had agreed to take part in the program. This was a heroes and families gala, the first of its kind, for the unveiling of the Hero Communities program. Invited were a great deal of press, influencers, and partnering agencies were asked for their heroes to attend with their significant others and children. So, she definitely had to go. Kaita Bakugo was the example they needed. Full-time hero, managing her own agency, married, has a child, and on top of everything else, pregnant. Kaita Bakugo would definitely help the HPSC pull the public approval for the project.

As their limo pulled up to the red carpet, Kaita took a moment to fix Aiya’s hair, the young girl having messed it up a fair bit in their travels, and while she didn’t particularly care about her daughter’s hair being a bit messy, she didn’t want the press pulling the toddler apart.

The group could hear the buzzes of excitement radiating from outside their limo. Shinso and Kaminari, hand in hand, stepped out of the vehicle first. A reporter could be heard announcing their arrival from just outside the doors, barely visible through the tinted windows. “Incoming, the first from the Extract and Dynamight agency! Chargebolt and his partner! He looks oddly familiar! Chargebolt, sir, if you don’t mind me asking, who did you bring with you tonight?” a bold reporter questioned.

“This is my husband,” Kaminari spoke into the microphone, before fleeing down the red carpet.

“You have it here folks, Mr. Chargebolt and his husband! This event gives us a great look into the lives of heroes, let’s see who steps out of the Extract-Dynamight limo next!”

Next out was Ashido and Kirishima, they stepped out side by side, adorned in a sexy white dress and a matching white suit with a red tie.

“It’s Pinky and Red Riot!” the reporter grinned. “In matching clothing, too! Let’s see if we can get an interview!”

Much to the disappointment of the reporter, the pair quickly followed suit and made their way down the red carpet. But, they weren’t disappointed for long, because out of the limo stepped Sero and Emma. “Why if it isn’t Cellophane and… maybe his girlfriend? Isn’t that the model Emma Smith? What is her relationship with these heroes, and why was she invited to the gala? Mr. Cellophane, would you care for a few questions?”

Sero pretended to think it over for barely a moment, before grinning and answering, “Sure, why not?”

“For starters, is this lovely lady here your partner? Why did you take her as your plus one?” the reporter questioned. “And, do you have any idea what this event might be about?”

“No, Emma is not my girlfriend, we’ve been best friends since we were seven or eight years old, I really couldn’t think of anyone else to be my plus one, and I’m not allowed to disclose anything about tonight’s announcement.” Sero explained, a hint of professionalism and his PR training coming through.

“Oh, Hanta, we’ve been friends longer than that,” Emma rolled her eyes playfully.

“Ah, well, thank you for your time, you two. Now! The last pair to come out should be Extract and Dynamight themselves. We’ll see if they show, this’ll be Extract’s first public appearance in just over seven months!”

As, if on cue, Bakugo hopped out of the limo, helping his daughter and wife out of the car. He nodded to the limo driver, who pulled away swiftly, away from the crowd and commotion. The audience of reporters and influencers cheered, cameras flashed, and the space was filled with chatter. “It’s them! And… their daughter? It looks like Dynamight and Extract have started a happy family! Let’s go get an interview! Hello there!”

“Hi!” Aiya excitedly waved to the reporters and cameras, who all collectively awed.

“Mrs. Extract! It’s certainly been awhile, how far along are you?”

“We don’t wish to share that information to the public,” she said politely.

“That’s okay! I apologize for asking, now if it’s okay for me to ask, what’s your daughter’s name?” the reporter questioned.

“This is Aiya,” Katsuki introduced.

“Well, little miss Aiya, are you excited to be here tonight?”

“Yes, is so essiting!!” the three year old grinned.

“Are you excited about the baby in your mommy’s tummy? Are you excited to be a big sister?”

“Yes, I’m gon be the best big sister, I so essited to meet my baby bwother!!”

“So it’s a boy?” she asked the family.

“Yep! Although, that might’ve been the funniest way we could’ve gender revealed,” Kaita chuckled.

“Oh?”

“Yeah, so our families didn’t know the sex yet…”

“This shit turned out so funny, the first one accidentally leaking it on live television,” Katsuki chuckled.

“Alright, we should get going so the Ingenium agency can pull up.”

“Thank you for your time.”
