Tornado

Summary:

The kents experience their first tornado since moving to smallville as Jon faces the ire of the townspeople as he is caught outside as the tornado hits.

Chapter Text

Jon was used to the disdain colouring peoples faces when they passed him in the street. He had become numb to the jeers and insults thrown his way whenever he was in Smallville.
He deserved it all. He kept telling himself that as time went on. Months had passed since he was expelled for the x-k. Jon didnt feel like he had any tears left in him. He was just so empty inside, lost and alone with nowhere to go.
Whenever he thought about telling his family about how he was feeling, his mouth clamped shut. There was no need to bother them with this he thought, not that they would care anyway as a wave of bitterness washed over him.
His parents could barely stand to look at him some days. Not that Jon could stand to look at himself in the mirror either. He felt as though he was wasting away before his own eyes and no one cared.
Letting out a sigh, Jon headed to work. Just another day stacking shelves in a dead old town. A far cry from his life in Metropolis. That was the only thing getting him through, one day he would get to go home, he just needed to keep going.
After a long afternoon of being sworn at, having drinks "accidentally" spilt on him and basically being treated like he was dirt found under someones shoe, Jon began to lock up after work.
It was in leaving the main town centre that he first heard the siren.
Jon had heard them before when they were being tested earlier in the year but this one made him jump in shock.
It was unusual that no tornados had hit Smallville in the time the Kent family had bern living there, considering that the state was usually rife for them. Jon looked around, his breathing speeding up, as he desperately tried to recall where the nearest shelter was. He slowed his breathing down as he followed the surge of people heading toward the shelter. As he got closer to the shelter, listening the the doors of nearby shops being shut and locked, Jon noticed the common looks of disdain turn to anger as they spotted him amongst the crowd. Jon neared the door of the shelter when a arm barred his way.
Coach Gaines stood in front of him.
"And where do you think youre going?"
"Um, iiinn tto the shelter ssirr" Jon could hardly keep the stutter out of his mouth. As soon as he had arrived in Smallville it seemed like the coach had had something against him.
"Well this shelter is full, we dont need any junkie trash coming in"
"But-"
"But nothing, now get lost"
Hearing the sniggers from the crowd around him, Jon turned and ran, the wind had picked up. Looking up at the sky Jon knew he had to hurry. He thought about calling to his Dad, his mouth again clamped shut. He could hardly bare the shame of calling for Superman. He was already a useless son, he didnt want to increase his guilt by being a burden too.
Searching for anywhere he could find shelter, Jon ran for the underpass, chanting the mantra in his head I can make it I can make it.

Lois exited the makeshift shelter from the cellar in the barn. Dusting herself off, she began to take stock of the damage on the farm and to the house. Thankfully due to Clark, a lot of the damage could be easily fixed. Their recent crop however was flattened and destroyed. It was early in the season, so a lot could be resown but it was disheartening to see.
Hearing two thumps behind hear announcing the arrival of her husband and son, she turned and smiled.
They greeted her with twin smiles. Both of their hairstyles had became windswept as they had spent the last few hours negating the damage of the tornado.
"Mom, you wouldnt believe what Dad showed me!" Jordan said with excitement as he explained how he had learnt how to stop a tornado.
Clark looked around the farm sighing at the damage. Noticing the lack of a family member, he turned and asked his wife "Is Jon already getting started on the clean up?"
Lois frowned at him, "what do you mean Clark? Jons at work today?"
"Yes but he would have finished long before the tornado hit"
Clark heard Jordans heart begin to race as the anxiety increased tenfold as thoughts about his brother being caught in the storm invaded his mind.
Grabbing his shoulders Clark said "Jordan listen to me, theres a shelter in town Jons going to be there oksy, we can go pick him up now,Lois?"
Lois was fiddling with her phone, "I guess signal must be down, I cant get a hold of him"
