I wish there was a shortcut to get back to you

Summary:

Mingyu being angsty before Wonwoo leaves, but Seungcheol comforts him and let's him know everything will be okay.

Notes:

This one is a little sad, but I didn't want it to be all sad so I added some fluff and an attempt at humor. I wrote this a few days after Wonwoo enlisted and it just came to me. Also let me know if you got the MX reference😆 I hope everyone is doing well🩵

Work Text:

Mingyu sat at the living room table, his head perched sadly on his folded arms as he stared at a picture in a small frame. It was a picture of his beloved Wonwoo.

"What are doing?" A voice asked as someone entered his apartment.

"Staring at Wonwoo, hyung," Mingyu answered, stating the obvious.

Seungcheol looked upwards, then pinched the bridge of his nose, "Yes, I can see that. But, why, Mingyu?"

"Hyung told me to practice my "wife waiting for her husband to return from war" look," Mingyu answered.

Seungcheol couldn't even laugh because he knew exactly who the hyung was that gave him this idea.

"Wonwoo's not even enlisted yet," Seungcheol stated.

"I know, but that's why hyung said I need to perfect my look before he leaves so I have it down. How do I look?" Mingyu asked, full sad puppy eyes on display.

"Like a dog who's owner went out for longer then they like," Seungcheol responded easily. He knew that look because he's seen it a few times from Kkuma and Jeonghan.

(Seungcheol had left for approximately 15 minutes and 4 seconds to get their dinner from a restaurant down the street which had been unexpectedly busy. Jeonghan said he was ready to send a search party for him.)

"Do you think it'll get Wonu to stay?" Mingyu whispered like he was afraid to ask. Seungcheol sighed.

He took a seat next to Mingyu and rubbed his back, side to side in comfort.

"You'll see him when he returns home every night. Trust me, I miss Hannie, but I get to see him at night and on the weekends so it's not too bad I suppose," Seungcheol said, trying to console the younger. Mingyu sat up and leaned on Seungcheol. Seungcheol instinctively wrapped an arm around his shoulders.

"Wow, you've gotten more muscular," Seungcheol teased, trying to lighten the mood. It worked because Mingyu laughed.

"Who's going to take care of you, hyung?" Mingyu whispered a moment later, afraid to ask.

"Jeonghan will be back. Although he did say if he's not back that Doljjong can watch over me. That's concerning because he lost it," Seungcheol replied. Mingyu chuckled.

"And I suspect he has Seungkwan taking care of me in secret. Isn't that right, Kwannie?" Seungcheol says, raising his voice on the last part. There's a thud, then a hiss, then a door close.

"How'd you know he was here?" Mingyu asks in wonder.

"I have eyes everywhere," Seungcheol says.

"Hey, guys. Do you want to see a magic trick I learned?" Hansol asked, appearing from another room. Mingyu looked pretty lost now. Seungcheol smirked, ready to call his bluff.

"Go ahead, kid," Seungcheol said, gesturing for him to continue, before resting his arm on Mingyu again.

Vernon pulled a deck of cards out of his pocket and somehow turned it into a paper rose. Seungcheol was actually impressed and Mingyu was amazed.

"How?" Mingyu asked.

Seungkwan entered with a fake yawn and a rather dramatic stretch.

"Morning, everyone. Good morning, baby," Seungkwan greeted, kissing Vernon's cheek. Vernon smiled, completely forgoing his magic act.

It worked because Seungcheol forgot Seungkwan was actually spying on him. Jeonghan still got the report from Seungkwan anyway.

Wonwoo entered the apartment some time later, going straight to the kitchen for water when he asked, "Why are there playing cards in the fridge?"

Mingyu didn't even care about the cards at that point. He just jumped up to hug his lover to which Wonwoo accepted with a smile immediately.

Mingyu tries to pass this "exercise" on to Dokyeom later who says there's no need because Joshua isn't enlisting. Although, truth be told Mingyu just wanted him to admit he's dating Joshua.
