Work Text:
Before you started going to sleep with Sakura in your arms (was there really a time like that for you? It's all so far away and hard to remember) you never woke up during the night. Eyes open, you were awake; eyes closed, you were asleep, and that was that.
Now, nearly every night, your heart will shake yourself awake, and you'll search frantically in the dark, terrified that he's flown away. Then you hear a small, sweet snuffle. Feel a tickle under your nose, a breath against your neck. Your love has stayed, here, with you, for one more night. You fall into relief, a warm downy blanket, and smile into that patch of white hair that he is indifferent to but you love to kiss in the daytime when you think nobody's watching, and you close your eyes again, and you sleep, and you are happy.
He wakes up in the night too. After you do and before you wake up again, reluctant and grumbling; when he knows nobody is watching to catch him in love, when he can trace the contours of your nose, your cheeks, your lips, the peaks and valleys and cool, shady groves of your beauty and your breath to his heart's content.
