Work Text:
It had stopped raining a while ago, but neither of them had noticed.
One minute they were doing a homework report and the next they were on the colorful bed with Wednesday sitting on Enid's lap.
Well, it hadn't been that sudden, but they'd been making out for so long that they couldn't say when or how the change had happened. Especially when Enid was kissing her so softly, her tongue deliciously caressing her girlfriend’s bottom lip. Wednesday could feel Enid's hands tightening around her as she leaned all her weight against her lap, and she could feel the blonde inhale sharply and exhale shakily against her face.
Wednesday had put her arms over Enid's shoulders while the blonde held her firmly by the hips. As she did so, her black and white striped shirt rose slightly, and Enid's thumbs, which had been moving absentmindedly up and down, slipped beneath it, brushing the warm skin of her waist.
“Enid”, she said breathlessly in a whisper, placing her hands on the blonde’s shoulder to pull her away slightly.
Enid looked at her silently. Wednesday touched the wrists of the hands that held her firmly.
“I think I need to stop”, Wednesday said.
Enid removed her hands within a second and placed them behind her on the mattress.
“Sure, yeah, I- sorry”, she nodded, embarrassed.
Wednesday climbed down and sat beside her on the edge of the bed.
“I'm so sorry, I've gone too far”, Enid whisper-yelled, anxiously clenching the sheets.
“No, Enid, it wasn't you”, her girlfriend reassured her. “I just got overwhelmed, it was suddenly too much”.
She looked at her. Enid was breathing heavily, her hair was disheveled, her cheeks blushed and her pupils dilated.
“Sorry to… leave you in such a state”, Wednesday apologized.
“It's okay”, she replied with an awkward chuckle. “I should probably get back to the report I was doing before we, uhm, got distracted”.
“I'm going to play some cello”, the shorter girl nodded.
“Okay, but grab a hoodie, please?”, Enid pouted. “It's not raining anymore but it’s probably freezing now”.
“I won't be long”, Wednesday assured her, giving her a soft kiss on the rosy cheek.
Enid nodded, her eyes downcast, sighing deeply before getting up from the unmade bed.
It was still dark outside when Wednesday padded over to the colorful bed on the other side of the room.
“Enid”, she called softly.
Her girlfriend was sleeping on her back with her arms and legs stretched out, snoring softly. Seeing that she wasn't going to wake her up so easily, Wednesday leaned over and gently shook her shoulder.
“Hmm, what time is it?”, Enid asked groggily, after jolting awake.
“Early”, the shorter girl replied. “May I come in?”
Enid's eyes shot open.
“Are you asking for morning cuddles?”, she asked with an almost manic smile.
Enid always looked beautiful in the morning.
“Yes”, Wednesday replied.
The blonde scooted over and lifted the covers to let her in, hugging her as soon as Wednesday lay down and letting her settle on her chest. She nuzzled and ruffled her bangs. At night Wednesday took out her braids and tied her hair in a low ponytail.
Wednesday let a blessed couple of silent minutes pass, feeling the rise and fall of her chest's breathing, the steady thump of a heart against her ear and the enveloping warmth of her favorite person.
“Enid”, she finally said.
The blonde turned her head slightly to see her better from the pillow.
“I was wondering…”, Wednesday said, fiddling with the collar of the pink pajamas. “I think it would be beneficial if I could get used to your touch, outside of… that context. The other day, it was too much all at once, but I thought maybe by gradually exposing myself I might not get so… overwhelmed”.
“You don't have to do anything you don't want to do, Wens”, Enid replied, shifting back on the pillow and gently stroking the her girlfriend’s arm. “I don't mind if we go slowly and you take all the time you need. Or even if it's not something you want to do, you don't have to do anything, really”.
“But I do want to”, Wednesday insisted, crawling up to be more on her level.
Enid stared for a few seconds into her dark, unblinking eyes.
“What do you want to do?”, she asked then.
Wednesday looked down and sighed.
“I hadn't thought of anything specific”, she said, lowering her hand from the blonde's shoulder, tracing her ribs with her fingers and gripping the hem of her shirt. “Just maybe, well, feeling your skin. With no sexual intentions, I mean. If that would be acceptable, of course, I-”
Enid let out a soft chuckle.
“Wednesday, if you’re asking to give me belly rubs the answer will always be yes”, she replied with the same manic smile.
The brunette nodded slightly and rested her head on her chest again. Slowly, she slipped her hand under her pink pajama top and began to make rhythmic circular movements on her girlfriend's abdomen. Enid insisted on saying tummy but it seemed like a ridiculous term.
She focused on the sensation. It felt soft and so warm under her fingers. It also felt surprisingly relaxing.
“Mmm, so good”, Enid hummed, her eyes closed in pleasure. “Your hands are cold”.
“And you're incredibly warm”, Wednesday replied. “Is this okay?”
“Perfect”, the blonde replied, giving her a soft kiss on the temple. “I'm in heaven right now”.
Enid mirrored the movement and absentmindedly stroked up and down the shorter girl’s back.
“You may continue under the shirt, if you wish”, Wednesday said.
“You sure?”, Enid asked, stopping the movement.
Wednesday nodded against her neck, and then felt a warm hand carefully slip under her black shirt.
Enid's movements weren't rhythmic, in fact Wednesday couldn't even find a pattern to them. First she massaged the small of her back, then she moved up and down the line of her spine with her fingertips, then she rubbed her shoulder blades, squeezing lightly on his tense shoulders, and so on. Gentle, careful, and loving, but completely random.
Wednesday closed her eyes and tried to stop focusing on finding the pattern and instead focus on just the sensation.
“Your back’s so soft”, Enid murmured against her hair.
“Your abdomen as well”, she replied.
“Oh my god, just say tummy!”, the blonde chuckled.
“Never”, Wednesday smirked.
She let Enid squeeze her and nuzzle her hair. She felt incredibly comfortable, which she hadn't expected at first. Her girlfriend was caressing her bare back, barely separated by their pajama tops, and she could hear the slow, steady beat of her heart, the soft breathing, the every time she swallowed, the movements of her stomach.
Wednesday found herself enjoying this intimacy so much, and even wanting more. But not at that moment, not yet. At that moment she wanted to focus on caressing Enid and feeling that warm hand on her back.
“When you said it felt like too much, what did you mean exactly?”, Enid asked quietly after a while, still caressing her.
How to explain it? Wednesday loved the warmth Enid gave her, yearned for it, craved it even. But after years of being locked away, she felt that warmth flooding through her body, sending her brain into alert mode, her emotions battling each other, activating fight or flight mode.
“It wasn't a negative thing. You weren't overwhelming me or making me feel bad, it just…”, Wednesday replied in the same low voice. “I don't know, it was strange, like I suddenly became blocked. I felt like if you touched me while kissing me, it was too much, too much to focus on at once. I like feeling you, I just think I need more time to adjust. It was the first time I felt your hands under my shirt and even though it was unintentional, it startled me more than I thought. You know I enjoy your physical contact, but I find it hard to fully embrace it at first”.
That was true. In this and in all other respects, Wednesday had needed a progression to adapt to the affections. It took her many weeks to feel comfortable interlacing her hand completely with Enid's instead of just intertwining their pinkies. Same with hugs, at first they were short and not too tight, until being able to cuddle like that naturally. And so on.
And that was what frustrated her the most, that she not only liked Enid's affection, she sought it out. But her body refused to accept it at first.
“Okay…”, Enid whispered, swallowing and placing her hand on her girlfriend’s shoulder blades. “Just tell me if you don't want me to do something, or if you want us to go slower”.
“There's no need”, Wednesday sighed, closing her eyes as she snuggled deeper into her neck. “You've been nothing but patient and caring with me from the very beginning”.
Enid hummed and placed a distracted kiss on the top of her raven head, resuming her random traces down the shorter girl's spine.
“How does it feel exactly? That block?”, she asked, staring at the ceiling deep in thought. “If you don't mind telling me”, she quickly added.
“It's like…”, the brunette tried to find the words. “You know how sometimes when you're asleep you feel like you're falling? Your brain goes from relaxed to alert. It's not rational, it's not controllable. You want to keep sleeping but your body has spontaneously taken you out of that state. I would say it's something like that”.
There was a moment of silence as the blonde absorbed her words.
“Thank you for telling me”, she finally said. “I want to understand you better. And help you. And make you feel good”.
Wednesday pushed herself up on her elbow to sit up and look at Enid for the first time, her dark eyes boring seriously into her ocean blue ones.
“You do”, she said. “All that and more. Thank you for understanding”, she dipped her head to give Enid a soft kiss. “Would you like to change positions?”, she asked.
“Sure”, Enid’s eyes shone in a grin.
Wednesday turned around, her back facing Enid, and took her hand to place it on her stomach.
“Are you asking me for spooning and belly rubs?”, Enid gasped in false surprise.
“If you're going to keep insisting on using those terrible terms, I can go back to my bed”, the Addams girl growled without turning around.
Enid giggled as she slipped her other arm under her girlfriend’s waist to grab her bare abdomen with both hands and pull her closer.
“I do want to be intimate in that way”, Wednesday said after a while, placing her hands over Enid’s and absently tracing her knuckles. “I feel safe with you, and I enjoy your care. And your body”, she added almost in a whisper. She swallowed before speaking again. “It’s novelty I struggle with, not quantity”.
“Okay”, Enid nodded breathlessly and burrowed herself further in Wednesday’s hair. She placed a kiss on the top of her head. “And quality?”, she murmured behind.
“Needless to say, I haven't received anything but the best quality of you, querida”, the shorter girl hummed.
“So you like my hugs?”, she could feel Enid's smile against her hair.
“Every day even more”.
“And my kisses?”
“Incredibly so”.
There was a pause.
“And my belly rubs?”, Enid asked with an obvious grin.
The silence was deafening.
“C’mon, just say it”, she teased in a sing-sang voice.
“Take the win, Enid”, Wednesday replied through gritted teeth.
The blonde giggled and pulled her even closer. Enid nuzzled her absentmindedly as she traced circles with her thumbs on her stomach. Wednesday felt the warmth of Enid's hands on her stomach and her front on her back, how she breathed softly with a smile against her hair, and how she herself instinctively let out a relaxed sigh.
She didn't know exactly when she fell asleep, but when she opened her eyes again she noticed strong and warm arms still holding her tightly. Knowing that she wasn't going to wake her deep-sleeping girlfriend, she turned around, facing her. Enid continued to hold her in her sleep, now extending her fingers on the shorter girl’s back.
Wednesday watched her for a moment. Enid always had a slight pout when she was fast asleep, letting out little puffs of air rhythmically from her mouth. She had her shirt pulled up slightly, casually showing her stomach as she wasn't going to be cold with the heat she always gave off. Wednesday brushed a stray blonde strand from her face and caressed her jaw.
“Enid”, she called softly.
Seeing that that didn't work, Wednesday leaned in and gave her a kiss on the tip of her nose. Enid wrinkled it and frowned with a groan.
“Enid”, Wednesday called again.
“Five more minutes”, the blonde mumbled, bringing the Addams girl closer.
Wednesday let out a soundless scoff, knowing her girlfriend was already awake but intent on cuddling as usual. She then began to kiss her softly, the blonde’s lips still in a stubborn pout. Enid reciprocated almost immediately, responding with soft, sleepy kisses, letting her tongue and bottom lip trail languidly as Wednesday tangled her hands in her hair.
Enid moved her hands absentmindedly up and down her back and tightened her grip on her shoulder blades before registering what she was doing.
“Sorry, oh my god I didn’t mean to”, she whispered, breaking away from the kiss.
“It’s fine”, Wednesday assured her, caressing her cheek and giving her a chaste but lingering kiss. “However, I think you’re going to be late for your brunch with Yoko”.
“What?”, Enid squeaked, turning her head to look at her alarm clock. “How is it morning already? I swear I just closed my eyes for a second”.
“I've slept longer than expected, too”, Wednesday admitted.
“I don't want to go now”, the taller girl whined, burying her nose in her girlfriend's black hair. “You’re so comfy. Can we do this more often?”
Enid's hands on her skin no longer felt like shocks that made her pull away, but instead they distributed warmth and chills in equal parts, and Wednesday just wanted to melt under her touch.
“Yes”, Wednesday replied immediately.
The blonde sighed contentedly, but her calm didn't last long, as she knew she couldn't be late again. She had a tendency to fall asleep, and she'd already had two strikes with Yoko this quarter. She knew that if she didn't make it to Jericho's bus on time and missed her brunch reservation, her friends wouldn't wait for her and would eat their share.
Enid growled and whined as she made the titanic effort of getting up from bed. Wednesday stayed in, watching her as the blonde finally bolted upright and hurriedly got ready.
And she couldn't help but think how terribly in love she was with the sweet, kind, and understanding Enid. She still felt the ghost of warm hands on her torso, the inevitable heat of blood flushing her otherwise pale cheeks, and the tickling sensation lingering on her lips.
Her girlfriend managed to take her breath away every time, and although the thought scared her sometimes, she hoped it would always feel that way.
Enid, who had been running back and forth, from the dressing room to the bathroom to the desk, approached the bed and kissed her senselessly once more before saying goodbye and walking out the door.
Wednesday sighed and let herself melt into t he still-sleeping warmth for a few blessed minutes before getting up and starting her day.
