Work Text:
The Showmaster catches a glimpse of the shadowy figure first when he was performing. Their busiest night yet, and there he was, just in the ring, standing there, watching him, spinning his cane like he's meant to be there.
He brushes it off for the moment, opting instead to continue performing. He stays there, for almost the whole performance, seemingly unseen to everyone else, leaving shortly before the end, just enough time to dissappear, unfindable.
The Showmaster forgets about the figure, moving on when he doesn't see him for a couple days. He next sees him on another busy night, standing, spinning his cane, exactly the same way as last time, but he's standing amongst the crowd, just infront of the entrance there, but once again, no one can see him, not even the people directly next to him.
This time he doesn't brush it off, he seems to be persistent, so he will be too. He doesn't let it effect his performance, but he spares a few glances to the figure throughout the show, he never moves, never does anything different, until he leaves, just before they bow, just enough time to dissappear.
As soon as they walk out the ring, he goes up to a group of his performers that has formed, "Did you see him?" He asks. The performers share a look, before one of them speaks up, "See who?"
"The figure. The man in the mask, standing in the audience."
"There wasn't anyone." The same person, one of the Anacarli, spoke up again. "No, no, no, he was there, he was also in the ring a couple days ago."
"Cheif," This time one of the clowns, "there was no one in a mask in the ring." The Showmaster walked back to his trailer, given up on convincing them.
The next time he sees the masked figure, their not performing. Before their next show, the Showmaster was talking to a few of the people come to watch, when he saw him, standing nearby, once again, going unnoticed by everyone. He finishes his conversation with the people, before walking over to him.
"I've seen you, during shows. No one else does." He says, leaning against the wall behind the figure. "No."
Being this close to him, he can get a better look at him.
He's rather tall, slightly taller than himself, which isn't an easy feat, seeing as he's over 6 foot himself, he's wearing a ringmaster outfit, not unlike his own, only it is all black, the only part of his outfit that wasn't, was the silver accents of his jacket. He wore a silk top hat, also rather similar to his own, and he still held his cane, it's sleek, with a silver handle. But the part that still intrigues the Showmaster was the mask. He wore a black fencing mask, despite how close he was to him, he still couldn't see through the mesh that completely obscured his face, leaving him still as a mysterious masked figure.
"I've been watching you." He said, looking fowards. "You have quite the show."
"The performers are good, aren't they?" He agreed.
"You are quite the man." The Showmaster hums in agreement.
"I didn't catch your name-" He turned to his right, where the masked figure was standing, to find he wasn't there. He had disappeared again. The Showmaster can't help but feel a little disappointed at this. The mysterious masked figure remains exactly that, a mystery.
