Chapter Text
Hello and welcome to the Frerard manifesto/masterpost/masterdoc/unhinged ramblings!
I realized a while ago that there really isn’t any resource that provides information about Frerard. The closest thing is probably a manifesto posted in 2008 by Bexless, which is now only accessible on the Wayback Machine and is obviously a little out of date. I wanted to make this because I’ve seen multiple people request or ask about the existence of a masterdoc. I hope this is adequate enough! (I’m sure there’s still things I forgot, despite this being over 75,000 words).
All views/opinions expressed are just that – opinion, not fact. I do not believe that the interpretations of lyrics/poetry/art expressed here are necessarily ‘correct’, as art can have multiple interpretations and I think people should be entitled to those interpretations. I wrote this purely for fun and do not wish to offend anyone.
There is A LOT to cover! Some events talked about here are more significant than others. I have tried to go as in depth as possible, and that may include covering things that seem minor or very far fetched. You can read a summary/TL;DR covering the main points in the final chapter. I am not a writer, so I apologize if there are any errors!
Many interviews are quoted in this doc. ‘Q:’ indicates that an interviewer or narrator is speaking.
Thank you to Tumblr users 99pansy, cloudiness, awsugar and lethal-injection-t for their help/contributions!

Basics
If you’re already super familiar with My Chemical Romance/Frerard, feel free to skip this section!
Frerard is the ship of Frank and Gerard from My Chemical Romance, a band who were active from 2001 to 2013, and from 2019 onwards. In 2013, Gerard announced that the band were breaking up. On Halloween 2019, the return of MCR was announced, and they played their first show in over seven years in Los Angeles on December 20th 2019. They finally went on tour again in 2022 following multiple postponements caused by COVID-19. My Chemical Romance is often shortened to MCR, which is an abbreviation I use often in this doc.
Frank was the final person to join the band (of the current four member lineup), being added as a second guitarist in 2002, while the band were working on their debut album ‘I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love’. Meanwhile, Gerard formed the band shortly after the 9/11 attacks in September 2001.
The ‘Fr’ in Frerard is for Frank Iero:

He was in multiple bands before joining My Chemical Romance, the most notable being Pencey Prep which broke up shortly before he joined MCR. Frank has also been a part of other projects after he joined MCR:
- Leathermouth (Active from 2007 to 2009, reunited for one show in 2013)
- Death Spells (Active from 2012 to 2013, officially released their album in 2016 and toured in the same year)
- Frank Iero and The —— (Solo project which he often changed the name of. Active from 2013 onwards. Have not toured since 2019, but released their last EP in 2021)
The ‘Erard’ in Frerard is for Gerard Way:

Before forming MCR, Gerard worked as an intern at Cartoon Network. He continued to be interested in art and comics, releasing his comic book ‘The Umbrella Academy’ throughout 2007, 2008 and 2009. It was later adapted for a hugely successful Netflix series, which ran from 2019 until 2024. After Gerard decided to disband MCR in 2013, he became a solo artist, releasing ‘Hesitant Alien’ in 2014.
