Chapter Text

Chuuya was tired of it. Tired of always being second best to Dazai. Tired of Dazai's teasing. Tired of Dazai in general. So he made a plan.

A plan to get Dazai out of his life for good.

"Chuuu-yaaaaa~! Guess what?"

Ignored. Hm. Weird. Whenever Dazai usually spoke to Chuuya he got yelled at, insulted, attacked, or all of the above. Chuuya just ignoring him, well, that was new.

"Chuuya? Did you hear me? I said guess what."

"Hm? Oh. What is it?"

Okay, now Dazai was a little creeped out. This wasn't Chuuya. No way. This was an intruder. But he carried on nonetheless.

"Well, a girl finally agreed to do a double suicide with me!" Dazai grinned, ready for Chuuya to deny his claims.

"Alright then, have fun."

What. The. Hell. Was Dazai's partner ill? Was he dying? Was he just sick and tired of the brunette's games? No, even if he was, Chuuya couldn't physically ignore Dazai like that. This was an intruder.

"Right. So I'm off to commit double suicide now."

"And as I said, you have fun with that. Goodbye forever."

"Yes. Goodbye, Chuuya."

Osamu Dazai, more commonly known as the Demon Prodigy, found dead at the foot of a Port Mafia building.

This was the first thing Chuuya woke up to the next day. A million thoughts were going through his head. Maybe if he'd just said something to stop his partner committing double suicide...

"Boo."

Chuuya could've sworn his heart leapt out of his chest for a moment. The ginger grabbed his knife and pressed it to the intruder's throat, except...there was no-one there.

He let out a quiet sigh, still a little on edge, as he put his knife back into its designated spot.

From: Boss-

//- Chuuya-kun, could you come to my office?

To: Boss-

//- On my way.

"Now, Chuuya-kun, I'm sure you're aware of Dazai-kun's little...incident.."

"Little incident? Boss, I don't mean any disrespect, but the guy's dead. How is that a 'little incident'?"

"But that's beside the point. Dazai, although playing an important role in Double Black, is not necessarily needed for missions."

God, Chuuya hated his boss. Mori Ougai, his least favourite person. He hated to admit it, but he'd put Dazai above Mori.

"He might not be, but his death means that I can't use Corruption. And at this point, I'm pretty sure Corruption is your favourite part about me."

"Such a rude thing to say," Mori replied sarcastically, but it wasn't Mori who spoke. It didn't sound like him, and his lips didn't even move. And the voice came from behind Chuuya.

The ginger's head snapped around to look behind him, but again, there was no-one there. Was he hallucinating? Dazai's death hadn't affected him that much, had it?

Wait, no, it hadn't affected him at all. Chuuya wanted Dazai dead, he had done since they first met. But...there was just something about the guy...the way his deep brown eyes lit up with flecks of gold whenever he got excited about something, the way he got all red and embarrassed when Chuuya had told him a simple "Happy Birthday" on the 19th of June, the way he always spoke about how much he wanted to die but never actually did.

Ah. Right. Maybe that description was a bit outdated.

Because Dazai was dead.

Dazai was dead.

Dazai was...

"Chuuya-kun?" Mori snapped the ginger out of his thoughts.

"Hm? Sorry, I was just...thinking.."

"About Dazai-kun, right?"

Mori was just as good at reading people as Dazai himself, except Mori was better now, because Dazai was gone.

"Yeah. Honestly, I'm glad he finally did it."

Dazai was gone.

And he was never, ever coming back.
