Chapter Text
A girl is being accepted into the asylum.
She is black haired, a little short. There are glasses sitting innocently on her nose with thick, blue frames. She looks around nervously. (Her eyes land on you for a second).
She is speaking to one of the doctors. No, not a doctor, a receptionist. A man with blond hair down to his shoulders and a deep, rough voice.
(You cannot see the rest of the room; the Author doesn’t describe it. It blurs in your periphery.)
“Are you the call from last night?”
“Yes.” Answers the girl. She doesn’t seem to be happy to be here. She is fuming that-
(And then, she is starring at you, she knows that you are here. You see the horror spread on her face. You know that she is not meant to see you.)
(You find this an interesting plot twist.)
(You feel that you are missing something.)
“I’m the call from last night. I… I was the one that was… um…”
“Screaming about voices and needing to find a ‘presence’?”
“Yes. That.”
(You don’t know what their expressions are. The Author doesn’t say that either)
(You stare as the world shifts and then, the girl is in her room.)
(You think that that might not be supposed to happen, but you don’t know why not)
She sighs as she unloads the boxes. Then, she turns to you. No, she swivels around the room, locking eyes with random spots. She looks at you for half a second longer.
(Maybe. It’s fleeting and you might have imagined it.)
(Or maybe the Author is messing with you.)
She sighs. You know her name is Kristin. (How do you know that? It’s only the beginning of the story, and the Author hasn’t said it.)
(You think that it might not matter.)
“Welp, you’re back. I didn’t expect that. Not after you vanished on me.”
(You want to tell her that you don’t know what’s going on.)
“What do you mean you don’t know what’s going on? I mean, you just sort of disappeared for a bit. No reason for it to give you amnesia!”
(You try to convey that you are new here and that this story is one that you haven’t read yet.)
(Kristin looks at you oddly. But not just you. Other places in the room too. You wonder why.)
“Let me get this straight. You have been with me as long as I remember, then you vanish, then you come back and tell me that you DON’T REMEMBER?”
(You panic.)
~~~*~~~
Kristin looks sheepish when you come back. She apologizes for screaming at you and that she should have known.
Then, the doctors come in and ask Kristin to come with them. They want to introduce her to her therapist. You aren’t sure that you won’t be left behind in the blank room. However, you stay with the group.
The doctors don’t seem to notice you. You really try. (You don’t know what you did. You only know that you tried and that you stopped trying when Kristin starts looking pained.)
You seem to almost blank out. You know that the walk is long, you know that there is small talk in the group. You know that the walls are bland. You don’t know much more than that.
Finally, you arrive at the therapist’s door.
Kristin goes in and you try to follow, but the door shuts in your face and you go reeling.
