"So summer only lasts three months?” Arya asked as she followed Steven to the beach. It wasn’t very far from the Themyscira stage. He and Finn convinced her to wear a modern outfit, and while she initially against the idea, her old clothes would have been smothering in this heat.
“Yep.”
“And so does Winter?”
Steven nodded.
“This world is so odd. How do people deal with the weather changing so much?
Steven shrugged. “We just do.”
“Watch out!” A beach ball was flying their way. Before Steven could bubble them, Arya striked with her sword.
Pop! At the end of her sword dangled a deflated beach ball.
“Arya, we were still using that!” Velma came marching over. “Why do you still have your sword, we’re not fighting today.”
“Maybe you aren’t fighting, but any minute a villain can come and attack us. I’m just being prepared.”
“Don’t worry, I have a solution.” Finn came running up with Jake, and out of his backpack he pulled out a pool noodle.
“Just put this on Needle, and no more beach balls will be popped.”
Arya did just that and frowned. “It looks ridiculous. But I suppose it matches my outfit.”
“Do you have a beach ball in your backpack?” Velma asked.
“You don’t need one.” Jake said. He turned into a ball. “I’ll be one!”
“Are you sure you want to be our beach ball? Wonder Woman and Iron Giant can hit pretty hard.”
“It’ll be fine. Just don’t bounce me into the sun, I don’t want a sun burn.”
“Can you even get sunburns?” Steven asked.
“I don’t know, and I don’t want to find out.”
“Do you want to play with us Steven?” Velma asked.
“Nah, I’m going to find Garnet. Know where she is?”
“I think she’s over in the shade. Have fun!”
He waved good bye and walked down the beach. He passed Mr. Clark grilling, Gizmo and Reindog building a sand castle, and Bugs Bunny tanning. He found Garnet underneath the shade of a palm tree, trying to get a beatbox working.
“I wish Peridot was here, she would know how to fix this thing.” She said.
“I do too. I wish all the Crystal Gems were here.” He sat down next to her.
“Hey, do you think if we ask Reindog, he could summon them?”
She shrugged. “It’s possible. He said that summoning wasn’t a precise thing. If we asked for a Crystal Gem, it could malfunction and pick one of our enemies instead.”
“Right, that’s what happened with Stripe and Gizmo.”
“Yep.”
They sat in silence for a moment, watching the waves crash against the shore.
“Being here makes me homesick. I like the Sky Arena, but it would be nice to see Beach City again. Even if it’s just an empty copy.”
“That might happen one day, we just have to keep hoping.” Garnet banged the beatbox, and a funky groove started playing.
“Everything will sort itself out Steven. Today is a day for fun.” She pulled him up and started dancing. He started dancing along with her and smiled.
