Chapter Text
They say that if a butterfly flaps its wings in the Amazonian rain forest, it can change the weather half a world away.
“Do you wanna come in?”
“I shouldn’t,” is all he can mutter, but he wants this, and if the hungry look in her eyes is an indication, she wants this too. So he follows when she steps aside.
“Can I make you a drink?”
“I’m good.” And he is. If he’s gonna do this, if he’s going to go against his morals like this, because this is his only chance, he wants to be sober. He wants to remember it, the feel of her, the taste of her.
Lucy doesn’t know who moves first, but they come together somewhere between her living room and kitchen, and it’s the most searing and intense kiss she’s had in her life. She knows what it’s like to be cheated on, she knows that this moment is going to implode her life, both personal and professional, but she doesn’t care. This is her only chance with Tim, because they can’t happen. Even if it’s just sex for him, she doesn’t care because nothing before has ever felt this right.
Before either of them realizes, they are hitting Lucy’s bedroom door frame, and Tim has less than a second to protect her head before they hit. Yet Lucy just kisses him deeper, and fuck it’s sexy as hell the way she lets him manhandle her body.
He moves her in the door, and slams it shut with their bodies. She slides the flannel shirt off his shoulders, and then runs her hands up under his t-shirt. He growls at the feeling of her fingers on his abs, and he breaks apart their kisses to pull his shirt off.
He dives back into her mouth while he slips her shirt off her shoulders, then he pulls away again to rip the other shirt over her head. But then he stops. Between the lacy black bra, and the string of the thong he can see peeking out of the top of her pants, he can’t form a solid thought, and he’s pretty sure he’s openly gaping at her beauty. Because fuck she’s gorgeous.
Lucy uses the moment to turn it around on him. He’s lying on her bed before he even blinks back aware, and she already has his button undone, and is staring at his zipper, pulling jeans and boxers down in one go. They both moan at the way she’s taken over and is now straddling him. Then she’s kneeling higher, her own hands shimmying her own pants off her hips. She stares into his eyes one last time, just making sure that neither of them have regrets before they start this, but the look in his eyes is downright hungry. She wastes no time sinking onto his cock. The growl he makes when she does doesn’t even sound human. She can’t help but wonder how absolutely incredible it feels, being with him like this.
She rides him, tipping her hips back and forth as he stares at her in amazement. He’s never had someone ride him like this. In fact, it’s never been a favorite position of anyone he’s been with, and it hadn’t been his until this very minute. Because god, this woman above him is downright sexy as hell.
Tim looks up into her eyes, and if she didn’t know any better, she would think she saw love there, but she knows that’s not possible. She puts her hands on his muscular chest, and she leans down to kiss him.
This is the most amazing thing he’s ever felt. Everything about this experience is magical. It’s Lucy, how could it not? She’s just as beautiful and sexy as he imagined when he got that glimpse of her back last night.
Ring
The sound of Lucy’s ringing phone barely takes them out of the bubble they are in.
“Ignore it,” she moans as she keeps rocking her hips, because she knows that ringtone isn’t anyone important.
When it stops, Tim finally reaches up to fondle her left breast, squeezing her nipple in between his middle and ring finger. The sensation causes Lucy to circle her hips and throw her head back, and all Tim wants to do is surge up and take her neck between his teeth.
Ring
“Maybe you should get-“ she shuts him up with a kiss and picks up the pace, getting him to forget the phone as he feels her walls start to flutter. She sees his hand snake to where they are joined, and the second his long fingers make contact, she implodes.
Ring
Lucy barely hears the ringing still convulsing from her orgasm, and Tim now knows something is wrong. Three calls in a row is no longer a coincidence, and no matter how much he wants this to continue, how much he wants to finish and maybe even do it all again, he cannot ignore the ringing phone anymore.
He rolls her off and reaches for her phone, rubbing her gently to bring her back to the present.
Angela
His heart starts to race as Lucy finally takes the phone. Did Angela know? She couldn’t. But why else would she call Lucy over and over?
“I think- you need- to get that,” he pants, watching her come back to herself.
He was so close, and he hopes she’ll just answer whoever this is, and be right back. He’s not so naive that he doesn’t believe that their fantasy bubble isn’t going to come crashing down the moment she hits answer.
By the time she finally grabs the phone, the ringing has stopped and he could curse himself for interrupting.
Ring
Ring
She looks down at her phone, and then back up as his phone echoes from somewhere across the room.
“Nolan, this better be important-“
“Um, it is. There’s no- it’s Chris. He’s alive but barely.”
Tim watches all the color drain from her face, and he knows. He knows something is very very wrong.
“Where?” she asks, picking out clothes and putting them on in a rush.
“St. Stephens.”
“On my way.”
“Lucy- what?”
“It’s Chris. Rosalind got him.” His stomach sinks, and what they just did hits him all at once like a freight train. “He’s still alive but I have to-“
“Let’s go. I’ll drive.”
When they make it to the hospital, they find John and Angela in the waiting room. Lucy immediately rushes to the desk where John meets her, and they go back with a flash of her badge.
“Did you drive her?” Angela asks.
“Yeah. Um, I was still dropping her off.”
Angela doesn’t say anything, but she damn well thinks it. The way they came in, that he didn’t answer, how long it took Lucy to answer, the clothes Lucy had on compared to Tim, her hair- whatever they were doing when Lucy got the call that her boyfriend was injured- it was far from innocent, but Angela knows this is far from the time or the place to bring it up. And maybe it’s not even a good idea to bring it up at all.
She doesn’t know quite how long she’s pondering how the hell life got so dramatic, but she’s pulled out of it by Tim kicking a row of chairs out of place. “Shit,” she sighs, under her breath as the desk staff stares at Tim, probably debating whether or not to call security. Angela quickly flashes her badge showing she’s got him, because the last thing she needs is him going even more feral if he has to leave Lucy here.
“Tim, you have to calm down,” she says, pulling him to the side.
“I can’t,” he croaks, his voice breaking.
“None of this is your fault.”
“Ang-“ She rolls her eyes as soon as he starts to protest again. She knows him well enough to know exactly where his mind is going.
“No. It’s not. You and Lucy being undercover, that had nothing to do with this. Not pulling out of the op had nothing to do with this. You could not have stopped this. If you’re feeling things, go back to the station and take it out on a punching bag.”
“I can’t-“
“Leave Lucy. I know.”
He sits and hangs his head in his hands, and all Angela can do is sigh. The damage to them all after this day is going to be lasting. They even had protection on Chris, and somehow Rosalind got around that. She finally sits down next to Tim, and rubs his back, not knowing how else to comfort him, knowing there probably isn’t anything she can do but be there.
“Hey,” John says, walking into the waiting room, breaking both Tim and Angela out of their thoughts. “They got him stabilized, he’s going to need some blood transfusions, but the doctor is pretty sure he’ll make a full recovery.”
“Thank god,” Angela says, and Tim breathes out what could be construed as a sigh, but it’s not. It’s a rease of some of the guilt he felt at being with Lucy at the moment Rosalind was torturing her boyfriend.
It’s then it hits him that they cheated, how bad of a decision he had made only an hour before. He became no better than his father in that moment, and that is something he’s not sure how to live with.
“You okay, sergeant?” John asks, seeing an expression on Tim’s face like he had never seen before.
“Yeah. Yeah I’m okay,” Tim lies, because he isn’t. He is not okay in the slightest. But he is going to have to be.
How did things get so fucked up so quickly?
