Chapter Text
Many people forget that Hades was considered one of the kindest Gods, other than Hestia, but one can only stay kind and sane for so long when they are isolated for millennia. When all the villains were rounded up and sent to the Isle, Zeus was still angry with Hades for trying to overthrow him. So, he placed Hades on the Isle and reinforced the barrier, hoping to keep his brother locked away once again. But Zeus didn’t tell the royals of Auradon that Hades wasn’t the only God to commit terrible crimes, instead pinning all that he could on his eldest brother and throwing him away. Zeus never expected that his brother might lay with the Dark Fae Maleficent during a peak of anger and insanity, he also did not predict the child that that would come from this or how she would affect Hades.

If anyone dared to walk near enough to Maleficent’s castle today, only a year after the creation of the Isle, listening past the ruckus of Hades and Maleficent’s argument one might hear the cries of an infant.
“I just can’t do this anymore, Maleficent,” Hades shouted before continuing in a softer tone. “ I don’t know why either of us thought this would ever work, the only thing we do is fight! The only good thing that came of us being together is Mal.” Hades said.
“Mal?! Seriously?!” Maleficent seethed, glaring at the broken crib in the corner of the room. “You must be joking Hades, all that thing does is cry. It’s a parasite.” Maleficent growled swinging her arm to point at the so called ‘parasite’, her eyes glowing bright green as her magic came forward to show her anger.
“She’s a baby!” Hades bellowed, standing between Maleficent and Mal’s crib. “She’s crying because she needs something, and you never bother to take care of her!” Hades walked towards the broken crib that housed his baby girl. He used one hand to play with her purple hair, one of the only obvious signs of her Godly heritage. After a minute he grabbed one of the teething rings he had managed to find in the barge and gave it to her, her cries finally beginning to quiet. He watched her calm down before speaking just above a whisper, “Mal is the only reason I’ve stayed this long. I can’t do it anymore, I just can’t.” Hades reached down to pick up his daughter as he spoke.
Maleficent scoffed, “What are you gonna do, Hades? Take it to the underworld with you?” Maleficent laughed cruelly, her voice raising as she kept talking “It has my blood, making it Dark Fae. Do you think anything Fae could survive the wasteland you call a kingdom?” She paused, a cackle escaping her and making her shake with laughter. “Go ahead, take it with you and watch it wither away. I can’t wait to see the anguish it wreaks on you, not to mention what you baby brother might do if he finds out you brought your demigod spawn to the underworld!”
Hades didn’t want to give her the satisfaction of seeing him cry, so kissed Mal on the forehead and he stormed out of Maleficent’s castle. He kept a scowl firmly in place as he crossed the Isle and went back to the cave entrance to the Underworld, as soon as he knew no Isle inhabitants would see him, he screamed. Tears poured down his face as everything around him caught fire, he sat there for hours mourning the loss of his baby girl. An idea came to him as he ran out of tears; I may not be able to raise her, but I can watch over her. She can’t die on the Isle because of the barrier, but I can ask the Fates to keep an eye on her fate for me.
