They're birds in this one

Summary:

A peacock takes interest in a certain Nightjar from his dream after looking for a mate.

He flashes his feathers in hopes to attract the bird.

The Nightjar is unimpressed.

Ratio and Aventurine are birds 🤯

(Tbh we need more bird fics of characters, I would eat them up)

Notes:

I was originally going to make Veritas a owl but, my sister said I should make him a Nightjar so here we are with a Lyre tailed Nightjar Ratio!
A very beautiful bird by the way, also known as a bird that looks similar to a dragon. A very fluffy one.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Meeting

Chapter Text

A peacock walked elegantly through the woods, watching all around. He was looking for a mate this time around. For the last few years he had tried and tried to find interest in another peacock but it was never there.

The humans that had found him when he was younger, all torn up and hurt, took care of him a great part of his life.

They had tried to find him a mate and it ended with no success. All the females were quite boring to him and all the males were busy finding a female mate. So he left the others in search of a mate. Eventually, they released him back into the wild.

Hence the reason the peacock was walking around, searching in hope. He squatted down near a tree to rest, he was very tired from walking around.

He curled up and fell asleep, he dreamed of a bird who looked quite majestic, it had quite a long tail. Although it was smaller than him, he trilled happily and walked towards it, fluffing out his feathers.

The bird however did not look thrilled at all and turned its head away from him. However, the peacock was persistent and did not back down easily. He continued to approach the bird until he was almost right next to it.

The bird stared at him for a moment before flying away. Immediately, the peacock felt sad and his feathers drooped.

Reluctantly, the bird woke up, upset that the bird was only in his dreams. He began to walk again in search of some water. The walk was long but the sights were pleasant.

As the peacock approached the water he saw something familiar. The bird he had seen in his dream! He moved closer slowly, trying not to disturb the other bird.

The nightjar tilted his head up to stare at the peacock. Curiously, the bird tilted his head and made a small chirp noise, it seemed to recognize the peacock.

Cautiously, the nightjar hoped over to the peacock and the peacock fluffed up its feathers.
Surprised, the nightjar jumped back letting out a chirp. The peacock lowered his feathers sadly, afraid the other bird might fly away.

Slowly, the nightjar examined the peacock wearily; it moved closer to the peacock. Ruffling its feathers, he trilled lightly at the peacock. The peacock bent his head down to look closely at the other bird.

The peacock nudged his head against the nightjar and emitted a slight sound; almost like a cat meowing. The nightjar surprisingly brushed up against the peacock gently.
The two birds nuzzled up against each other softly. Enjoying the warmth of the other. The nightjar flew up and landed on the back of the peacock. The peacock sat down and laid under a tree; the nightjar nuzzling close.
