Work Text:
You envy Gene. You envy the way he's able to explore himself and talk to people. You're even envious of the way that he can break the rules, but you don’t have that same luxury. Maybe one day you can be something more than just a vessel for your parents to control.
You spend your afternoon walking through the local park. Luckily for you it’s actually pretty concealed. You take a seat near the pond and watch as the ducks and ducklings swim. You feel at peace, surrounded by the sounds of nature. You lay in the grass and rest. You don’t know how long you’ve been laying there before you start feeling something falling on your face. You open your eyes and see Gene. You both stare at each other.
“You should be careful,” you stare at him with a quizzical look ,”I don’t think it’s safe for someone as pretty as you to be sleeping outside. Especially if you’re alone.” You feel your breath catch and your heart stop. You never really thought he thought you were pretty. You never even thought that he would’ve thought about you.
“What brings you here?” You almost forget to speak. “I don’t know. I just kinda wanted a nice place to relax. Where better than the park?” You look everywhere, but his eyes. He continues to pluck the grass and watch as it falls on your face. You don’t want this to end. “Soooo…..uhm….what’re you doing here?” He looks at you and shrugs. “I guess the same as you?” Neither of you say a word. You know this will never happen again. You and him will never be like this again, but you’ll gladly take any moment with him that you can.
“Hey Garroth?” you look at him, “Do you think in another world we might be friends?”
You wonder what he means. “Yeah, probably. I mean if you want we could be friends now.” He looks at you and turns his head before smiling. “Maybe one day.” He stands up and leaves.
You wonder what that was about, but you decide to make a similar choice and head home.
