Chapter Text
You looked around. Take-out boxes and piles of junk blocking your view.
When was the last time you went out? The last time you saw the sun? Your phone was blown up with text messages, but only from one person. The only one who knew what you were going through. Your best friend.
Mina. She was always there for you through the hardest times, and you were beyond grateful that she looked out for you. But in this situation, you even struggled to let her in on what was happening.
You remembered the moment so vividly. Getting home from work, being so excited to meet him. Haru. But when you quietly opened the door to your apartment, you saw what you were never intended to see. Your boyfriend on top of another woman, in your apartment, on your couch. You could still remember how you just stood there, too stunned to speak. Not a single tear fell from your eye, because you truly believed that this could not be true. It felt so unreal, that the man you were engaged to, the man who you would be willing to take a bullet for, betrayed your trust like it was nothing.
You cried again, but hastily wiped away your tears. Your head hurt from all the crying, and you didn't want to have to go through that all again. It had been a week since the incident, although it felt like months. Maybe years. You talked to no one, not even to Mina. She knew something was wrong with you. This had already happened once, when your grandmother passed away. Suddenly, you heard a knock, interrupting your thoughts. You checked the time. Two in the morning.
You slowly walked over to the door and looked through the peek-hole. Mina. There she was. You guessed that after all this calling with no answer, she needed to get to you in some other way. She anxiously bit her nails as her eyes wandered all over the place. She knocked one more.
"Y/n? Are you in there?" she called out.
After being quiet for a few seconds, you decided to speak up. You didn't want to worry your best friend even more.
"Yes... I'm here," you muttered.
"Please let me in... I just need to see you," she cried. You knew she was worried sick. You had never gone this long without contacting her.
You shyly opened the door, but not fully. A part of you was ashamed of the mass you'd made in your apartment in the last week. Mina however, couldn't care less. She pushed open the door and wrapped you in her embrace.
"What's going on Y/n?" she cried into your shoulder. "Please, just tell me.

You sat quietly in your bed. You had told her everything. Mina cried more than you did. She was a very emotional person, but that was one of the things you loved about her.
"I-" she started.
"You don't need to comfort me, I'm fine now," you said.
"I'm going to find that motherfucker, and beat him the fuck up," she said angrily.
You couldn't help but chuckle. Mina wasn't a very angry person, but you could tell she was fuming.
"I'm not joking!" she stated loudly. "But before I do that, I'm going to help you with this!"
She gestured with her arms around your room.
"Or, do you want to talk more first? I understand if you need someone to vent to right now," she said sympathetically.
"Nah. I don't want to think about him anymore. I want to move on from this bullshit," you sighed.

You plopped down on your newly made bed in exhaustion. Mina followed suite and sighed heavily.
"I'm so proud of you for getting though this." she started. You wanted to protest, telling her that it was "no big deal", but you knew that she wouldn't buy it.
"Listen... I know you'll be against this idea but.." she shyly said.
"Don't say what I think you're going to say," you warned. You knew exactly where she would take this.
"Please just hear me out okay!"
You rolled your eyes but eventually gave in.
"I know you don't like the idea of owning a hybrid, but from what I've heard, they can really help you in situations like these! I think you need someone right now, someone other than me. Someone to be there for you at all times, and someone that you can look out for!" she said happily.
She knew you didn't like the hybrid system in society. You thought that hybrids shouldn't be owned by humans, but they should be able to walk freely as their own individuals. All the fetishization around hybrids just didn't sit right with you.
"Mina... I know you're just trying to help me but, I just can't do that. Haven't you read all the articles about hybrids being abused by their owners? They shouldn't have to be owned my anyone," you stated.
"You don't have to be like them! I know you would never abuse a hybrid, or anyone for that matter! There are plenty of hybrids who are happy with having owners. You've only read about the worst cases," she whined.
You knew she was right, but you didn't want to admit it. Some hybrids feel comfortable with their owners, and see them more as a friend than someone who has ownership over them.
You grumbled and looked around. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad to have someone to hang out with during the days. Someone to motivate you to get up in the morning. No! No way am I going to be a part of this toxic system! You thought.
"Please Y/n?" she begged as she took your hands in hers. "Just give it a shot okay? You don't have to go though with it, but please just consider the idea? For me?"
She knew you couldn't resist her puppy eyes. It was almost cruel, how she could get whatever the wanted with those.
"Please, please, pleeeaseeee?"
"Okay, okay! I'll consider it, but only because you asked me to..." you gave in as she jumped up in joy.
"I'll call Eun-Woo right away!" she cheered.
"Wait a second! Who's that!?"
"My friend at the adoption center," she winked as she put her phone to her ear.
This was going to be interesting indeed.
