"Why don't you love me, Alastor!?" Vox shouted in frustration at the man who's back was towards him, tears pricking in his eyes.
Alastor winced, dreading this moment, knowing in his heart it would inevitably come one day.
"Vox... I— I'm sorry," was all he could muster, his fingers curling around his cane.
Vox's screen glitched for a moment as more tears fell.
"You won't ever feel the way I do, will you?" he questioned, his tone meek this time, as if he already knew the answer deep in his heart.
Releasing a deep sigh that crackled like radio static, he finally turned to look at the other man.
"I won't. I love you, Vox, but not in the way you want me to. I've tried, so many times, but it's just... not possible for me."
They both remained quiet for a while, simply staring at each other. Without a word, Alastor turned and began to leave.
"So that's it, then? We're just... done? What about us?"
Alastor paused at that, hesitating a moment as his smile briefly dropped.
Mouth curling into his signature smile once again, he replied bitterly, "There never was an us, Vox."
Stomping down the gnawing feeling in his heart once again, he departed from Vox's company, leaving behind one of the few people he had ever called a friend for good.
All because of a pesky little thing called Love.
