Chapter 1: I want to talk to you about everything

Chapter Text

Jun’s phone alarm blares loudly, disturbing the early morning air in his bedroom. He flails his hand wildly to snooze his alarm without opening his eyes, wrapping his blanket tighter around himself.

An arm wraps around his chest a few moments later, cuddling close. “It’s too early,” Seungkwan mumbles, digging his face into Jun’s back. “I’m so sore. Take some responsibility.”

“Go back to sleep,” Jun says quietly. “Five more minutes.”

Seungkwan huffs a laugh. “Yes, eomma.”

Jun snoozes his alarm for an extra fifteen minutes before Seungkwan finally forces him awake, pressing kisses to the side of his face. “Come on, Captain, it’s your last first day of high school. Can’t be late.”

“I sure as hell can,” Jun grumbles but gets up anyway, groaning as his muscles stretch and pop. Seungkwan makes a quiet noise and Jun turns around, smirking.

“Don’t make that face,” Seungkwan scolds. “You’re insatiable. Go make breakfast and think about what you did.”

Jun stands up, grabbing his abandoned pajamas from the floor. “Yes, I’ll think about it. I’ll think about it while making breakfast and during homeroom and especially during algebra-”

“Ugh!” Seungkwan scoffs but Jun can hear the smile in it. “Don’t get fresh with me. Shoo. I’ll be down in a bit.”

He slouches downstairs and even makes his brother food out of the kindness of his heart. When Seungkwan comes down, dressed in his school uniform, he smiles at Jun before accepting his plate. After that, he gets ready himself before they’re all out the door. They walk part of the way with his brother before he splits up, heading toward his own school. He’s big enough to make it on his own but Jun still worries so Seungkwan takes his hand, thumb squeezing over his own.

The only disappointing part of his last year of high school is that all of his hyungs are gone. Seungcheol, Jeonghan, and Shua graduated the year before, and even though they’re still in Seoul, it’s going to be different without them bugging Jun during his free period.

They’re barely on campus before Seungkwan is accosted, swamped by a group of rowdy teenage boys.

“Seungkwan!” Seokmin yells, like he hasn’t seen Seungkwan in years even though Seungkwan just visited archery practice last week.

“Hyung!” Seungkwan yells back jubilantly, and soon Soonyoung, Mingyu, and Chan have joined in, all of them talking with each other rapid-fire. Jun leaves them be and goes to perch on the school wall with Jihoon and Wonwoo instead.

Jihoon nods at him. “Hey,” he says, cradling his clarinet case to his chest.

Wonwoo rolls his eyes. “Hey,” he mimics Jihoon, badly.

“Hey,” Jun responds back in a much better impression, and Wonwoo and he laugh while Jihoon cracks a smile.

“Excited for the last first day of school?” Wonwoo asks.

“I’m already over it,” Jihoon says. “I barely got three hours of sleep last night.”

“Too busy sexting?” Wonwoo replies mildly.

Jihoon punches him and Jun laughs as Wonwoo loses his balance and slides off the wall. Wonwoo doesn’t seem too bothered, giggling as Jihoon’s ears immediately flare pink. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” Jihoon hisses, eyes narrowed. “You’re so dumb. I’m never doing anything for you again. Dickhead.”

“But were you?” Jun asks, and only barely avoids Jihoon’s wild flail at him. The bell rings before they get the chance to antagonize him further. Jihoon points his finger at them before grabbing Wonwoo’s arm, dragging him off to their homeroom. Seungkwan is quick to say goodbye, standing on his tiptoes to give Jun a peck on the cheek before strolling away with a “see you later, hyung!” He’s too far away before Jun can say anything back.

The first half of the day is a bore, as it usually is. At least he’s stuck here with Soonyoung, who’s never annoyed to double-check Jun’s hangul. He can read it okay but more advanced stuff is a hassle. Literature’s going to be even more of a challenge this year.

They’re the first out the door for lunch, eager to relax with their friends. Their meeting place is usually the band room; the director takes her lunch in her office and doesn’t mind the large group, thankfully.

When they enter, Soonyoung races ahead to join the circle, but Jun slows down. There’s someone new he hasn’t seen before, sitting by Seungkwan, who’s talking and gesturing to everyone. Seungkwan’s gaze flits to him inexorably, and a large beam overtakes his face. “Junnie-hyung!” he calls, waving him over. Jun catches his hand when he’s close enough, pressing a kiss to the back of it when he sits down and Seungkwan smiles, pleased.

“Hyung, this is Chwe Hansol! He’s in my class, he just transferred.”

Chwe Hansol nods at him.

“And this is Moon Junhwi! He’s captain of the archery team this year. You should check it out.”

“You do archery?” Jun asks curiously.

Hansol shakes his head. “Never. I’ve always wanted to try it, though.”

Seokmin perks up across the circle. “I’m on the archery team, too! I’m better than Jun.”

“You are not,” Jun proclaims. “It was like a seven point difference-”

“And those seven points got me first place, didn’t they?”

“He even remembers the exact amount and everything,” Soonyoung comments. “But he’s totally not bitter about it.”

“Hey!” Mingyu butts in. “I brought someone new.”

You didn’t bring him, he was in our class and agreed to come,” Seokmin corrects, sounding offended.

“Um, hi.” Jun finally notices the new boy sitting between Mingyu and Seokmin. His uniform jacket looks about two sizes too big on him, and his dark hair is almost certainly infringing on their dress code. Seungkwan had cried his first year when the school made him dye his blond hair back to brown.

“He’s Chinese!” Mingyu announces. “Myungho, this is Jun-hyung, he’s Chinese, too.”

Jun finally makes eye contact with the boy.

“Do you know Mandarin?” is Jun’s first question.

The relief on the other boy’s face is evident when he responds. “Yes,” he says. “And it’s Minghao. We just moved here and I’m really not good at Korean.” he giggles nervously.

The thick boots and pierced ears don’t really do anything to hide the fact that Minghao’s voice and face are really cute.

“If you need any help, you can always ask me,” Jun says shyly, fidgeting nervously as he breaks eye contact to unpack his lunch.

Seungkwan wraps himself around his arm, chattering away happily to their friends.

Shit.
