A Memoir Of Imperfect Angels

Summary:

Please read the tags and notes. I do not know how frequently this will be updated. Trigger warning: there will be a lot of potentionally triggering content.

What if Pure Vanilla had also been found in Beast Yeast? What if the council proceeded without him at first?
What would change?

They couldn´t feel their body. Everything was cold, and numb. Where were their friends?

Notes:

this is very different from canon. so basically gingerbrave and co didnt meet pure vanilla at the vanilla kingdom, but it still got restored and they still went to the other kingdoms. dark cacao also actually helped his people and dark choco got redeemed! feel free to ask questions and do tell if you think that i should add more tags! i swear the other chapters are going to be longer

update: im rewritting this completely now. sorry it took so long, i got hnit by the ao3 curse... so to sum the past year up: my mental health drastically declined, i was constantly sick and had my first ever lung infection. fun times.

Chapter 1

Notes:

remeber to read the tags!

Chapter Text

They couldn't feel their body. Everything was cold, and numb.

Where were their friends?

They tried to open their eyes, but the light around them was too blinding. Pure Vanilla carefully lifted their head, this time with their eyes closed. The familiar scent of lilies and orchids reached their nose. With one hand covering their face, they tried to carefully get up.
Pure Vanilla tried to reach out to something for support, but their hand only grabbed air. It was in that moment that they realised: They were in a flower field. "But how did I get here?", they mumbled.

"Hey! Who's there?" The silence was broken by an unfamiliar voice- perhaps another cookie? They hesitated. It could be an enemy, but what did they have to lose?

"Hello? Could you perhaps help-" With a loud bang, something (someone?) landed by their side. "Oh god, you're hurt!" Someone grabbed their left arm. They winced and the cookie immediately let go, muttering a quiet ´sorry´. "My name is Peach Faerie Cookie. And who are you?" Judging by their voice, they were most likely a woman. "I am Pure Vanilla... nice to meet you, Peach Faerie." They gave her a hesitant smile. Peach Blossom grabbed their arm again, but this time it was more gentle. "Wait, I'll get you to the infirmary..." Pure Vanilla gladly allowed her to gently support him. Soon, they could hear multiple voices as well as strange noices that reminded them of the flapping of wings... They decided not to question it.

Though Peach Faerie... No, it can't be real- faeries only exist in legends, right?

By the time they had reached the infirmary, their feet were hurting and they could feel a migraine coming. Luckily Peach Blossom knew the healers well and they helped them without much questioning, seeing as the blonde cookie had quite a few injuries.... But their constant, nervous whispering confused Pure Vanilla. It didn't help that Peach Blossom didn't say anything either. Instead, she excused herself and quickly left.

Some time later, they heard footsteps, followed by Peach Faerie's energic voice. "I'm telling you, your majesty, it's really them!" The strong scent of lilies filled the room. Could it really be-

"Pure Vanilla!" White Lily threw her arms around their neck. "It- it's really you!" Her voice was brittle and they could feel her shaking. "Thank the witches..!" They didn't dare say anything, their thoughts racing in their head. "Lily..." They were confused. Why did Peach Blossom call her ´your majesty´? It didn't make any sense! White Lily wasn't a queen like Hollyberry and Golden Cheese. And where were they anyways?

"I- what happened? Where are we?" They squinted, trying to get a better look at White Lily. Yet their eyes failed them once again. And their staff- it wasn't there, either. The longer they were conscious for, the more questions they had.

"Don't think too much about it," she interrupted them quickly. Ï swear I'll explain ewverything later, but you must rest now- the healers will take care of your injuries, and we can go to my chambers afterwards."

She was quick to notice their friend's frown. Seeking out things that were hidden- as the one who held the Light of Truth, that was their highest worship. Though they would havew to be content with her answer for now.

-

It was absurd, in some ways. Pure Vanilla was sitting on her bed, the burns on their arms now bandaged. How many times had she been in that exact same situation after an experiment gone wrong, sitting in their room, getting treated? She hoped she would not have to get used to this.

However, there were more important matter at hand than her discomfort.

Pure Vanilla had kept quiet, yet she could tell that they were still waiting for an explanation. So she sat down beside them, pulling them closer so that Pure Vanilla's head was resting against her chest.

"A lot happened while you were.. gone," White Lily started. "We are in Beast-Yeast right now, in the Faerie Kingdom. As you may have noticed, the faeries cal me 'your majesty'.. it's because the former king, Elder Faerie has passed away, and he left his position to me."

They looked at her, mismatched blue and yellow eyes meeting magenta ones. "Lily, that doesn't explain anything at all. Why were you in Beast-Yeast in the first place?"

"Sure, I might have accidentally ended up her after that final blast- but what about you? You were far in the back-"

"Vanilla," she whispered. "You know it. You know that I'm Dark Enchantress. Doesn't that already answer your question?"

They cupped her face with one hand, their thumb gently caressing her cheek. "No. It explains why she is here. But you are separate from her- you must be, otherwise the Faerie King would have never accepted you here. So why are you here?"

She leaned slightly into the touch. "It's a long story."

"I have time."
