Jack had tried, ever since that first frantic kiss in the SUV, to tell himself that whatever was between him and Ianto was… gratitude on Ianto’s part, for not being executed or retconned, maybe a need to feel something, anything, other than grief or pain. That was understandable, after everything the young Welshman had been through.
As for Jack himself, he was just helping Ianto deal with his loss, providing some comfort, and they were both enjoying themselves. Ianto was fun in bed, and Jack was all about fun. Why shouldn’t he be? If he was going to live forever, didn’t he deserve to get as much pleasure out of life as he possibly could?
It wasn’t love though, not for either of them. It was a matter of convenience, friends with benefits, nothing more. Sex with no strings attached, a mutually beneficial arrangement, a pleasant diversion from their stressful working lives. Everyone needed a way to let off steam and just unwind.
It wasn’t until Jack spent a year been tortured aboard the Valliant that he finally accepted he’d been in denial all along. Without ever intending to, he’d fallen in love with Ianto. Now what should he do?
