As a child, Celebrimbor had not been afraid of the dark.
There had been no darkness to fear; not with Laurelin and Telperion shining so brightly, illuminating his room at day and night.
No, the darkness had come later, sudden and all-encompassing, and though he had been a child no more, Celebrimbor had been terrified.
His father, amidst all the grief and fear, had held him close and kissed his brow and given him a small, flickering light set in glass.
“As long as this light shines, nothing may harm you.”
Celebrimbor has kept the glass close all his life.
