Chapter Text
You were up late, again. Unable to sleep. It’s not like you had anything to do tomorrow. Or the day after… Or the day after that. Yet the anxiety continued to gnaw at you. Deep in the pit of your stomach.
You’d lost your job a few months ago. And with the current state of the economy, you’d had no luck getting hired anywhere else. At least no where you’d be able to, or willing to, work. So here you saw, staring at the list of jobs you’d already applied for. Mindlessly scrolling through the list until you hit the end. Sighing, you refreshed the page for the umpteenth time.
You were surprised to see a new listing pop up. Who was posting a job opening at this time of night? Well, surely they must be as desperate as you are. You didn’t even read the name of the establishment before you clicked the link. It was a security job. Long hours, but good pay… Where was this? Fazbear Entertainment. Wait, that was the big pizzaplex, wasn’t it? No wonder the pay was so good. It was an enormous building. Not that you’d ever been able to afford to go.
You wondered why they suddenly had an opening. You wondered if you cared… Looking around you at the papers piled up. Unpaid bills stared back at you, illuminated by the light of your screen. If it came to it, you could always quit. But rent was due and your bank account was empty. So you hit apply.

You’re not sure what you were expecting. You’d seen pictures, videos, advertisements. Even a recent news segment on television about the place. Apparently it was closed for a few days for repairs to its animatronics. Which didn’t sound too odd to you, but apparently it’d never been closed down even once since its opening. No wonder those bots broke down.
It was getting dark out. Not quite closing time. You were to meet your boss. You walked in, easily spotting the tired looking women standing off to the side. She wore a black uniform and hat that clearly stated ‘Security’ on it. Bingo. Walking over, you introduce yourself.
“Ah, yes. Welcome to Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex. My name is Vanessa. I’m the night guard here. Well, a night guard now. Come, we’ll talk in my office.” She eyes a few guests leaving out the main doors before turning and heading back to her office. You follow her blond ponytail to a door off to the side of the Lobby. Clearly marked with a security level. She holds it open for you to enter.
“Recently, we had an issue with an…. Intruder. They caused quite a bit of damage to the animatronics. Upper management has finally decided I was probably right about those staff bots being completely useless for security, and has hired help. Well, they hired you. I assume you’ve read the job description?”
You nod, taking in the office. It appeared to be more of a… lost and found. Full of random items. Just a private place to talk. You offer her a smile.
“By your tone, I assume they’ve decided to double their security force? To two whole people. Haha… Ah… I’ll um, do my best.” You rub the back of your neck awkwardly when she doesn’t react to your joke.
“Yes… You won’t have to apprehend any intruders. Simply call the police or Security to handle it. Fazbear’s will not be paying out any medical claims if you decide to be a hero.” She says, giving you a serious look.
“Security? I thought that was us?” You ask, a bit confused.
“Ah, right. We’re the night guards. We’re security as in we walk around and make sure the place is secure. But certain animatronics also double as security. They are programmed to handle any intruders. You’ll receive a staff FazWatch. Which you can use to view cameras, maps, call me, or activate a Security Response. We’ll go over all of that tonight in training.”
“Right… okay. Well, that doesn’t sound so bad then. I’m a bit of a night owl anyways, so this job sounds perfect for me.” You grin. As nervous as you were, you were actually looking forwards to this job! It didn’t seem nearly as bad as your anxiety had told you it would be.
“Just don’t think you can slack off and hide in some closet. I can see the cameras too so I’ll know if you’re not working.” She says sternly.
“These animatronics are expensive . Management will not hesitate to replace you if you can’t fulfill your duties.” She’d likely received most of the blame for the intruder incident she mentioned. You could only imagine those robots likely cost more than you would be paid in a year…
“Of course! I’ll make sure to do my job!” I’ve got too many bills to pay to fuck this up. You think.

After introductions, Vanessa gives you a tour of the facility while explaining your duties. Man this place was huge . As you entered the atrium it really hit you just how much walking you would have to do… Ah well. The pay was good enough. And you’d surely get used to it after working a while, right? Although your feet already ached a bit halfway through the tour.
Your job was simple enough. You could walk any route you liked, as long as you checked each part of the plex. She recommended setting a routine so you wouldn’t forget anything. She walked you through the Lobby, the Atrium, Roxy Raceway, Bonnie Bowl, Gator Golf, FazerBlast, Mazersize, the various restaurants, arcades, and so much more. The map she gave you wasn’t much use either. Hopefully you wouldn’t get too lost in here.
You felt your anxiety return when she took you behind another staff only door, only to be greeted by the Utility Tunnels. A vast network of tunnels, rooms, and elevators that took you behind the scenes of the plex. You almost let out an audible sigh of relief when she said she’d focus on those areas, while you patrolled the public parts of the plex.
It was several hours later and you were heading back towards the entrance. Instead of heading up the stairs towards the elevator though, she turns and walks past a sign stating ‘Kid’s Cove’. There was a cute lighthouse and a beached pirate ship. Behind those were shutters, likely open during open hours.
“This is the Daycare. Now the Party Rooms upstairs are still in use, but the Play Area has been closed. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of signs so you won’t accidentally wander in there… And don’t even think about trying to sneak in. Entering restricted areas will result in immediate termination.” Vanessa turns to give you a stern look. You just nod. You weren’t going to risk your job trying to break into a… play area?
Walking in you see the large glass room in the center. An enormous jungle gym dominated it. As well as what appeared to be a ball pit. And some sort of… stage up on the wall. You wondered why it was closed. Maybe the intruder did some damage? Well, it was none of your business.
She leads you up the stairs, showing you the many Party Rooms. Security Staff Bots aimlessly rolled past. Apparently they weren’t for much more than show. As you were heading out of the Daycare, through the drop off, you glance back at the play area. You thought you saw something moving in there. Something yellow. You blink, but there’s nothing there. Vanessa lets out a tired sigh. You decide not to test her patience and turn to follow her. Leaving the daycare behind.
