May 2007

"Did you sleep well, sweetheart?" She gave him a sweet smile. “Mummy can’t believe you’re already a year old. Time just goes by way too fast. I wish you would stay that small forever." Her son beamed up to her and laughed.

"Ma," he babbled, watching her from his bright green eyes; the eyes she loved so much. She picked him up from the changing table and hugged him tightly.

"There's the birthday boy," a voice came from the door. Ginny turned around and saw her mother-in-law leaning against the door frame and then finally coming towards them. Ginny gave her son to his grandma, and the little one smiled at his grandma with an even wider smile. "He's such a sweet boy."

Ginny laughed. “And calm, too. I never thought Harry and I would manage to have a quiet child."

“To be honest, I didn’t think so either. But it was clear with Jamie that he wasn't going to be quiet. After all, you named him after his grandpa and his grandpa's best friend."

“You’re probably right about that. Besides, I wouldn't say Harry and I are the quietest people existing."

Together they went down to the kitchen where Ginny's father-in-law was. "Hey James," she said, hugging him in greeting.

"Hello Ginny," he replied with a radiant smile and then turned to his wife and grandson. “Merlin Al, I could've sworn you've grown at least ten centimeters since I last saw you."

Lily laughed. "We saw him the day before yesterday, James!"

"Are your parents here yet?" said James to Ginny, who shook her head in response.

“But they should be here soon. They also wanted to come a little earlier," she said, signaling to her in-laws to follow her into the living room.

At that moment Harry entered the house with little James in his arms. The little boy ran straight to his grandpa, who squatted and wrapped him tightly in his arms. "Grandpa! Daddy and I goed flying, and I tried my new broom you gave me. It's soooooo great!" said the little boy excitedly.

"Hi Mum, hi Dad!" said Harry meanwhile, embracing his mother, who was still holding Albus. It was incredibly sweet to watch the youngest Potter cuddle with his grandma and both of them looking at Harry with the same green eyes he himself had. “Jamie is making real progress. He is really talented."

"Would you have thought otherwise?" his father asked amused and stood up. "With such talented parents and a such talented grandpa."

Ginny laughed. "Quidditch was already put in his cradle."

“To be honest, I still can’t believe I already have two grandchildren. I mean, I'm only 47, we could have a kid at Jamie's age of our own," James remarked.

“What did you expect? You were twenty when you had Harry," Ginny replied laughing.

"And you were twenty-three and twenty-two when you had Jamie. I feel incredibly old."

"In our defense, we didn't necessarily plan on making you grandparents so early," Harry said slowly. "But we would never want it any differently."

“But there’s something good about you becoming parents so young. Then you have plenty of time to give us more grandchildren. I expect seven at least," Harry's father joked.

"James!" Lily complained, but could not help smiling. "The two can decide for themselves how many children they want."

Ginny laughed. “There will definitely be no more than four. And besides, there won't be a third child anytime soon. Maybe in two or three years, but not now," said she.

That being said, the fire in the fireplace turned green and Molly and Arthur Weasley stepped out of the fireplace. Within seconds Molly was at her youngest grandson's side. "Oh, my little darling is already a year old today!"

Ginny and Harry watched from a distance. Harry put an arm around his wife and pulled her to him. “We really have to be careful. Our parents will spoil our children if this continues," Harry remarked amused.

“Sometimes I have the feeling that we are already messing up our children ourselves, so it doesn’t really matter.”

The black-haired one grinned. "We do not mess our children up."

"So if I compare our parenting methods to Hermione's, we do exactly that," Ginny said. “But I think Ron balances it all out pretty well. Rosie he really can't refuse a wish."

When Harry stopped answering, she turned to him and looked up at him suspiciously. "What?" she asked when she saw him grinning at her.

"You are beautiful," he said plainly.

Ginny rolled her eyes, but smiled. “You really always say such things when I least expect it. But thank you." She stood on her toes and gave him a short kiss on the lips. "I love you."

"I love you too."

"What do you think the chances are that one of our parents will take the boys tonight?" Ginny asked, smiling innocently.

"Gin! You are unbelievable!" Harry laughed and shook his head. "But I think the chances are good."
