“Lily..?” John’s voice was barely above a whisper as his eyes brimmed with tears. Even with all the movement playing out around him, time seemed to slow to a stop. The world became a blur with the only focus being Lily’s chilling, blank face.
“We disposed of the boy sir.” Mould and Roach returned, their mirrored eyes scanning over Lily. Roach was the one to speak, his voice dry and uncaring “What happened to the girl?” He glanced down at them. John, blind to the world around him, slowly started to shake Lily’s limp body.
“Lily please not like this no no no you cant y-you can’t go not yet” He began to mindlessly stammer as tears spilled down his cheeks. With the setting sun his tears shone like diamonds encrusting his face. He stopped shaking her, staring into her face, the reality of the situation crashing down on him. Overtaken by grief he began to sob as he held her corpse within his arms, weeping over her shoulder. His cries cut through the silence of the men. The blimp continued to steadily rise and the wind roared within their ears but it was no match to the pain of a mourning father. His cries were filled with pain and misery.
Professor Silverfish stood there motionless and silent. The one thing he had spent the past 7 years fighting for, driving himself to bankruptcy, had just been destroyed with a simple pull of a trigger. If only she didn't jump then none of this would’ve happened. The boy would’ve been dead instead and his prized Cogheart would still be functioning. The professor balled his hands into fists as his body trembled with fury.
“YOU DID THIS.” He screamed, eyes wild and open glaring down upon John. “YOU DESTROYED THE COGHEART. YOU’VE RUINED EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING”.
Professor Silverfish stormed over to the broken John who held onto the lifeless body of his daughter, his hands tangled within her auburn hair. He looked up at the Professor, his gaze a mix of shock and rage, though his body still trembled as he sat on the Ship’s cargo harbor.
Professor Silverfish let out an inhumane noise, somewhere between a grunt and a roar. He’d made his way over to John and even though his eyes were wild and crazed, a smile splayed out on his lips. He looked insane.
“There. We’ve both lost what was most dear to us because of your foolish games.”
John steeled himself and locked eyes with Professor Silverfish’s gaze. His voice roared over the deafening wind as he turned his body away from him, trying to shelter Lily’s corpse. Her blood had began to pool in his lap and spilled over the Professor’s classy shoes.
The professor looked down at him, his face unchanging as his face stayed ever unnerving. Just as Mould and Roach stood behind him menacingly the professor began to laugh. It started off as a light chuckle, silent, hidden under the sounds of the wind around them before he couldn’t hold back and began to howl with laughter. The sight threw the three other man off guard as he teeter totted where he stood to keep his balance on this catwalk, standing there clutching his stomach, doubled over.
From John’s perspective it seemed as if the world had been suddenly dropped from the giant hand’s of the cosmos, tumbling and spinning around his, blurry and unclear. He began to wobble where he sat, fighting the swaying of the moving ship, his head and battling the wind. In complete contrast to all thats happened, his blood stained clothes, the dead little girl wrapped within his arms, all the torture he suffered a serene expression landed on John’s face. His eyes blurred and seemed to look nowhere as he turned away from Professor Silverfish. The aforementioned Professor stopped laughing and his gaze became cold and unforgiving once more as he saw the peace on John’s face.
“Do you really care that little that you’ve already moved on? And yet you call me a monster” Professor Silverfish sneered down at John. He turned his body, standing defensively. John said nothing as he stood up, pushing himself up with a free hand as he held fast onto Lily. He didn’t even spare the Professor a glance as he walked down the catwalk, away from it all, closer to the edge. He kept on walking even when Professor Silverfish protested. “John where do you think you are going.”
He ended up stopping ont he edge on the catwalk. The ship had risen a couple thousand feet now and below laid the vast expanse of London. The wind blew through their hair, a mix of short trimmed hazel hair and long auburn hair stained red. The view especially at this time with the sun setting was breathtaking. As John silently stood and watched London continue to fade away, his breath came out in long deep breaths, visible on the crisp and frosty air. He changed his hold on her and held her bridal style, he head falling back and limp.
“I lived on for her, but now that i’ve lost that we can all be reunited in what comes after. I’m sure she’s waiting for me. I should’ve said more, spoken out when I saw you dark intentions but it doesnt matter anymore. You won’t get the Cogheart and you’ll never know the full power that it held. I do have to thank you for the chance to create something so fantastical though. With it I saved my dear Lily’s life and while I could’ve played a bigger part in her life we can now all live out forever with one another in paradise.”
With this John turned around and looked at Professor Silverfish. He had tears streaming down his face and yet his face remained smiling. Continuing to meet the Professor’s gaze, John turned around, now facing the men.
He said nothing as he took the step backwards and fell.
