Sullyoon was not a big fan of parties. Being one of the popular girls she was always invited to the big parties fellow students throw for whatever reason but she would always decline politely, choosing to spend the party night by herself and her dog she named kitty. This worked in her favour as the invites slowly stopped, well almost all of them. She could never escape Bae’s parties. No is never an option. If she counted on her hand the number of times Bae had physically dragged her to her party. She would have been on the news for having the most number of fingers on a hand. Don’t get her wrong, she loves her bestfriend and she knows almost everyone at Bae’s parties due to them having mutual friends and she does enjoy herself at the party. Which is how she found herself sitting in a circle with a bottle spinning infront of her.
Truth or dare, a game she hated. More specifically. Truth or dare at Bae’s parties also known as dare or dare because ‘truth is for cowards’ . Maybe it's because everyone at the party knows each other quite well or her friends are just crazy but the dares can get a little intense. Like when Minji dared Bae to jump out her second floor window which she did with no hestitation. Or when Haewon was dared to feed Jiwoo a carrot which ended with Haewon in the hospital. Even just now when Eunchae was dared to consume whatever thing Hanni made, resulting in her chugging a peanut butter smoothie mixed with carrots and spinach.
“Okay now who’s next,” Eunchae said as she spun the bottle eyeing Hanni with revenge in mind. To her dismay the bottle passes Hanni and stops at the person beside her, Sullyoon. Sullyoon groans as Hanni cheers. Groaning even more when she sees Bae whisper something to Eunchae. The both of them glance at her, then at the person sitting opposite her,Lily. Like Haewon, Lily was in the year above them. The kind popular theatre student who was always so friendly. Greeting everyone in the halls, volunteering in class and was overall a sweet person. Lily was also pretty, really pretty. She had half the school crushing on her, including Sullyoon. Bae knows because she can read her like an open book. It was her fault too, the blush on her cheeks whenever she’s caught staring or breathing near Lily was a big giveaway.
Her crush on Lily started last year. It was the end of school, the rain had gotten heavier and Sullyoon had conviniently forgotten to bring her umbrella. She was debating if she wanted to run for it when Lily approached her and offered her a ride home. To make it even better, there was heavy traffic due to the rain. Leading to an hour long of random small talks and karoke sessions. One hour was enough for Sullyoon to fall head over heels for Lily.
“Dare or dare~.” Bae said in an omnimous tone which really sounded like Gazelle from zootopia just in another pitch
“Or.” Sullyoon answered, receiving eye rolls, boos and even a pillow to the face from Minji. “Fine fine, dare,”
“I dare you to kiss your crush.” Eunchae giggles, earning cheers from everyone in the room. Almost everyone was stealing glances at Lily as Sullyoon isn’t as subtle as she hoped with her crushing. Anyone could tell Sullyoon was whipped for the other girl, except Lily of course. The blush on her cheeks confirms the fact as she glances at the door. Only to be met with Kyujin and Haewon blocking the door. A necessary precaution since Sullyoon has the habit of bolting out the door when she doesn't like the dare.
“Well what are you waiting for?” Minji teased. “I think everyone knows your crush is someone in this room.” Mumbles of agreement echo throughout the room.
“Wait really?” Lily asked, turning to Haewon who sends a knowing look to Sullyoon.
“Yea really?”Hanni echoed. Eunchae sighed before walking over and whispering something to her. “Oh my God!”
Guess she wasn’t that obvious, but then again Hanni isn’t the most attentive person in the room.
“KISS KISS KISS KISS!” Jiwoo chants and is soon joined by everyone. Sullyoon buries her face in her palms. Calculating if she can squeeze through Haewon and Kyujin.
“Just go for it Yoona,” Bae whispers to her. Sullyoon sighs. It's now or never. With her heart pounding in her chest, Sullyoon approached Lily, who was still confused about the whole situation. Planning to peck her cheek, she leans in. Only to be met by soft lips against her own. She pulls away as quickly as she leaned in. Gasping when she realised Lily had turned to face her causing her to peck her lips instead. Everyone in the room screams in joy. Eunchae jumps on Bae’s bed swinging the blanket in the air while Bae and Minji hug each other squealing. Before Lily could respond, Sullyoon turned on her heels and bolted. Haewon and Kyujin were prepared. Arms spread out as they block the exit. Desperate to escape the embarrassment, Sullyoon swerves and heads for the nearest exit.
“DID YOONA JUST JUMP OUT OF MY WINDOW?!” Bae screamed. Haewon rushes over and leans out the window.
“She’s running down the street so she’s fine.” Haewon announced, earning sighs of relief. “Wait is that Lily,” Kyujin points at the figure running out of the house.
Sullyoon ran as fast as she could for a few minutes before slowing down. She wasn’t a sporty person and despite running past 3 houses at most she already feels like she’s about to pass out. She could just walk around the block and wait for everyone to fall asleep before going back in-
“Seol Yoona, wait!” Sullyoon has the shock of her life when she sees Lily running after her. In a panic she picks up speed and runs away.
“Yoona!” Sullyoon lets out a shriek as she hears Lily catching up. Sullyoon runs to the nearby park, hopefully the trees will throw Lily off. However she hears her name for the third time.Another scream as she ran as fast as she could. If her physical education teacher was watching her run right now, they would’ve given her an A. Sullyoon swears she’s never run so fast in her 19 years of living. As they ran through the park, passersby looked on in confusion, wondering what was happening. Two girls running around like this certainly drew attention, especially if one of them was screaming at the top of their lungs. Luckily they didn’t call the police and shrugged it off as a game between friends. Sullyoon ducks into the playground. Hiding in one of the tube slides.
“Yoona where did you go?!” She clasps her hand around her mouth, doing her best to keep quiet as the sound of Lily calling for her grew louder. After what felt like hours the calls died down and Sullyoon was greeted with the calming silence. Sullyoon let out a breath she didn’t know she had been holding. She felt bad running away from the older girl but she was too embarrassed to face her.
“Peekaboo!” Lily laughed peeking into the slide from the bottom, scaring the living daylights out of the younger girl. Before Sullyoon could climb back up the slide, hands looped around her ankles and the latter was pulled out of the slide.
“H-how did you find me?” Sullyoon stuttered, sitting at the bottom of the slide with Lily holding her wrist.
“Well you aren’t exactly that short, I saw your fish slippers poking out of the slide.” Sullyoon glanced at her slippers, which was a silly little gift from Jinni before she moved overseas, then at the slide. “Oh.” She breathed out.
“Now, can we talk please.” Lily crouched down to be at eye-level with the flustered girl infront of her. One thing about Lily is that the concept of personal space is one she struggles with. Making her crush on Lily even harder to hide. She nods, looking away to hide the blush on her cheeks. “Great!” Lily pulls her over to the nearby benches, still holding onto her hand to prevent the possibility of Sullyoon running away again.
“Why did you run away from me?” Lily asked, fiddling with their interlocked hands. Sullyoon looked down, her cheeks still flushed. "I'm sorry, I got scared," she admitted softly. “You don’t have to be scared, I thought it was really sweet,” Lily chirped
“So about the kiss-”
“I am SO SORRY! I wanted to kiss your cheeks but then you turned and that was my first kiss. I'm sorry if it was yours too-” Lily held her finger against Sullyoon’s lips, shushing her.
“It’s okay,”
“You’re not mad?”Sullyoon questioned hesitantly. Lily beamed, gently reaching for Sullyoon’s hands.
"Of course not," Lily replied, giving her a reassuring squeeze. "I could never be mad at you. I like you too, Sullyoon.
A shy smile tugged at Sullyoon’s lips. “Really?” Lily laughs as she cups Sullyoon’s cheeks.
“Can I kiss you?” Sullyoon didn’t reply, a blush plastered on her face as Lily leaned in, closing the small gap between them, and softly pressed her lips against Sullyoon’s. Lily's lips were soft and inviting and Sullyoon melted into the kiss. They pulled back, their foreheads resting against each other, and exchanged shy but happy smiles. Sullyoon opened her mouth to say something, but was quickly interrupted by a bright flash.
“THE FLASH WAS ON YOU DUMBASS!” The couple turn to the source of the voice, locking eyes with Kyujin, Hanni and Eunchae hiding by the tree behind them.
“Uh congratulations guys.” Hanni started, clapping her hands together awkwardly.
“Yea Lily that was so smooth,” Kyujin cheered, giving her a thumbs up only to be met with telepathic daggers from the people infront of them.
“I think we should go-” Eunchae suggested, turning back for a response from her fellow stalkers, only to find them already running ahead. “HEY WAIT FOR ME!”
Lily and Sullyoon chuckled as they watched Eunchae nearly trip over her own feet and run after the two disappearing figures. “I bet Bae sent them,”
“I have a feeling Eunchae jumped out the window like i did,” Lily hums, placing a peck on the other girl’s cheek.
“We should probably go back before Haewon sends Bae and Jiwoo to look for us,” She stands up and offers her hand to Sullyoon, which the latter glady takes, interlocking them. Unlike the run to the park, the walk back was peaceful. A comforting silence surrounds them, occasional giggles and blushes whenever they glanced at each other, easily causing anyone who passed by to think they were drunk.
As they reached Bae's house, Lily and Sullyoon noticed the living room filled with their friends, eagerly waiting for their return. Haewon stood there with a sly grin, and clapped her hands, announcing, "Finally, the lovebirds have returned!"
Sullyoon's face turned beet red, and she tried to hide her embarrassment behind her hands. Lily chuckled, wrapping her arm around Sullyoon's waist to show her support. "Yes, we're back," Lily said, a cheeky smile on her face.
“Wait who started the kiss?”
“Lily,” Kyujin, Hanni and Eunchae answered at the same time, high fiving each other at the realization.
“Hah! Told you sullyoon was a coward now pay up Bae,” Minji cheered as Bae dejectedly passed her a ten dollar bill, even doing a celebratory dance in the middle of the room.
“Okay, enough teasing," Lily spoke up, playfully rolling her eyes. "Let’s party!"
The rest of the evening passed in a blur of laughter, music, and dancing. Lily and Sullyoon were inseparable, stealing glances at each other and sharing secret smiles. They danced together, their hands intertwined, and Sullyoon couldn't help but feel grateful for Lily's persistence in chasing after her.
As the night comes to a close, sleep has caught onto them and one by one the girls fell asleep. However, Kyujin had made the greatest mistake of dozing off first. Resulting in everyone taking turns to draw on her face. Eventually, soft snores filled the chaotic house with everyone passed out in random places. Sullyoon found herself sitting on a quiet corner of the room ,a few feet away from Haewon sleeping like a soldier on Bae’s dining room table. Lily joined her, wrapping a cozy blanket around both of them.
"You know," Sullyoon started, “Out of all the scenarios I planned out to confess to you, this was not how I expected it to turn out.”
Lily chuckled, brushing her fingers against Sullyoon's cheek. “Life is full of surprises, did you see Jiwoo sleeping with half her body in Bae’s closet,”
“She’s so cute when she’s asleep and not threatening me,” Lily added, pulling out her phone to show Sullyoon the picture she took of the sleeping Jiwoo.
“Wait she threatened you?,” Sullyoon repeated, amused.
“Yea, while everyone was drawing on Kyujin face she went up to me and i quote ‘You better not hurt Yoona or I will be drawing on your organs’ ” Sullyoon suppressed a laugh, not wanting to wake up a passed out Minji slumped against the wall infront of them with her mouth opened.
“Life is surprising, and I’m glad it brought us together.” Sullyoon whispers into the crook of Lily’s neck.
“Me too,”
Sullyoon smiled, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. She leaned in, capturing Lily's lips in a soft and tender kiss. The warmth of the moment enveloped them, and they savoured the sweetness of each other's company.As the night grew colder Lily and Sullyoon drifted off to slumber, wrapped in each other's embrace.
