Chapter Text
Everything sounds a little muffled because the music is so loud. You can’t fight the wide smile that plays on your lips, this is the first time you are seeing Motor City Machine Guns and you managed to snag barricade spots for you and your best friend. Your voice is already almost gone yet you don’t care, you don’t care that you have to do a presentation tomorrow, right now you are only focused on the band in front of you. Max pushes his way back to your side, handing you a beer, you thank him with a smile because you know better than to try and talk to him. It feels like a sweet relief to finally drink something cold after standing here for two hours. The openers were good, you hadn’t heard of any of them before tonight but you would definitely check them out when you got home.
“We only have a few more songs for you tonight,” Ace says into the mic as he adjusts the mic stand. “These last ones are from some of our older records so if you know the words, please sing along.” He flashes the smile that you know so well to the audience. The oh so familiar tune of ‘Rebel Love Song’ starts and you immediately start screaming, this is your favorite song that the band has ever made. The guitarist, Alex, runs across the stage, he positions himself in front of the monitor, resting his foot on top of it. You feel your heart beat just a little faster, Alex has always been your favorite member, he has been since day one. And here he is now, several feet in front of you. He looks down at the crowd, eyes locking with yours. It sounds so fucking cliche but it’s as if time slows down, he flashes you a bright smile which you return.
I cannot hide
What's on my mind
I feel it
Burning deep inside
A passion crime
To take what's mine
Let us start
Living for today
Never gonna change my mind
We can leave it all behind
Nothing's gonna stop us
No not this time
Max elbows you in the ribs and holds his phone up in front of you, he has typed you out a message. ‘Dude Shelley hasn’t looked away from you this whole time, I think he likes you.’ You grab Max’s phone and quickly type out an answer, ‘It’s not like that. I just happen to be the fan in front of his spot.’ Max responds just as fast, ‘offer him a sip of your beer when the song ends.’ You glare at Max who has a cocky smirk on his lips, he knows that he is right and that you are going to do what he suggested. You look back up at Alex, he is still looking down at you. He offers you another smile, and as the chorus starts up he starts to sing the lyrics, but he isn’t just singing along with his band, no he is singing this to you.
So take your hand in mine
It's ours tonight
This is a Rebel Love Song
Hearts will sacrifice
It's do or die
This is a Rebel Love Song
You sing the lyrics along with him, a smile pulling at your lips. You are entranced by the look that Alex is giving you, it’s like he’s inviting you closer to him. As the song continues you can’t help but stare at Alex, the look that he is giving you makes it impossible to look away. He mouths the lyrics to you, something about this just feels right to you. Like that this is the perfect song for Alex’s personality. It would make sense he was the one who wrote the lyrics to most of their songs.
My outlaw eyes
Have seen their lies
I choke on
All they had to say
When worlds collide
What's left inside?
I hold on tight
And hear you pray
Never gonna change my mind
We can leave it all behind
Nothing's gonna stop us
No not this time
So take your hand in mine
It's ours tonight
This is a Rebel Love Song
Hearts will sacrifice
It's do or die
This is a Rebel Love Song
Wild and running
For one reason
They can't stop us
From our freedom
(Wild and running for one reason
They can't stop us from our freedom)
Never gonna change my mind
We can leave it all behind
Nothing's gonna stop us
No not this time
So take your hand in mine
It's ours tonight
This is a Rebel Love Song
Hearts will sacrifice
It's do or die
This is a Rebel Love Song
Max elbows you in the side again, you glare at him and he motions toward Alex. You raise your eyebrow at him so he points at your beer and then at Alex. Alex watches this whole thing go down, a cocky smirk playing on his lips. You finally get the message, a blush crawling across your cheeks. You mouth to Max, ‘Maybe.’ He mouths back, ‘Do it…. Pussy.’ That was the last straw and he knows it. You turn back to face Alex who is singing the last chorus, as the song comes to an end you hold up your beer to him, offering it to him. Alex whistles at Ace who glances down at you, the singer nods to the guitarist who quickly takes off his guitar and hands it to Ace. Ace starts making jokes about how he and Alex are switching jobs. Alex jumps down to barricade level, he offers you a smile and gets pretty close to your ear.
“You sure you want to share with me, sweetheart?” You feel hot because of the nickname and all you can do is nod. He takes the bottle from you and takes a sip, you can feel Max laughing beside you. He keeps your beer and holds his other hand out to you, you raise your eyebrow at him. “Gimme your phone, sweetheart.” You are surprised that you can hear him so clearly but you comply with his request and unlock your phone before handing it to the guitarist. He takes it and quickly creates a new contact, he puts his number and hands you back your phone. You are in shock as you look at the new contact ‘Sexy Shelley’, so he is a little full of himself but you don’t mind. “Why don’t you stick around after the show, sweetheart? Your friend can come as well.”
“Seems like Shelley has found himself a new piece of candy.” Normally you would have hated being objectified like this but something about it made your skin crawl in the best possible way. Alex takes another sip of your beer, he swishes the bottle around as he swallows. He leans forward so his lips are level with your ear,
“Mind if I kiss you, sweetheart?” All you can do is nod, you feel dumbstruck. You expect it to be some quick thing but instead he takes another sip of your beer and threads his fingers through your hair, he pulls your head back gently and connects your lips. All noises fall away as you bring your hands up to his chest. He taps your cheek with the beer bottle, as if you get his message you part your lips. He carefully transfers the beer from his mouth to your mouth, he pulls away from you first. You swallow the liquid, a hazy smile playing on your lips. He pecks your lips and ruffles your hair as he pulls his hand away. He hands you back your beer before getting back on stage. Max grabs your arm and starts yelling in your ear.
“Oh my god dude. You just kissed Alex fucking Shelley. That’s going to be all around the internet by tomorrow.” All you can do is smile at your friend, too overcome with euphoria to do anything else. Alex gets clapped on the back by Ace as he gets his guitar from the singer. He returns to his spot in front of the monitor, he winks at you and blows you a kiss before putting his guitar strap back on. You bring your hand up to your lips, not believing what just happened. You chuckle to yourself before you take a sip of your beer. A sly smile plays on Alex’s lips as he watches you finish your beer, it wouldn’t be the last one that you share, he knows that much for sure.
You barely remember them playing the final three songs, your focus is only on Alex for the rest of the concert. Before you know it Ace is wishing everyone a goodnight and turning to go backstage, Alex stops him so he can give the man his guitar again. Ace chuckles as he watches Alex return to your side. He holds his hands out to you,
“Come on, sweetheart. You and your friend have a special backstage pass.” You reach out to him, he puts his hands under your armpits and helps you over the barricade. Once you are stable on your feet, he helps Max over the barricade. You and Max glance at each other, smiles crossing your faces. Alex claps you both on the back and tells you to follow him, which you and Max gladly do.
