Chapter 1: Thoughts on the ADA

Summary:

Mother, Father.

This is my diary.

Chapter Text

Dear dia

Hello

What do What shoud I write here?

Dear diary,

Mother, Father.

This is my diary. From the movies that Naomi, Kenji, Atsushi and I watch sometimes, a lot of people who write in diaries start their entries with “Dear diary,” as if the diary is an actual, breathing person who they can talk to.

I

I can’t talk to you anymore, not that I have the means to.

Although, maybe this “diary” of mine could serve as my letters to you both.

Oddly enough, I feel like Naomi is the closest girl to me in the Agency, in terms of age. With the way she acts, I’d think she was around 19. She’s still in high-school while working part time for the Armed Detective Agency. Anyway, she told me that she has a diary where she vents about her school work and other feelings and suggested I do the same.

Here it is.

Mother, father, seeing that whaa whatever I write here acts also as a means of talking to you two, I thought that I’d limit its contents to positive experiences only. Then I realised that might not happen often. I’ve decided to write letters to you both whenever I miss you two.

?????? What else do I write here?

??????

I want to work with

I want to be a part of the Armed Detective Agency.

I mean, I am part of the Agency, mother, father.

I have a home.

However, I am not sure if I really want to be a detective like Atsushi and the others. I want to use my skills to help them, those skills align with… whatever isn’t Naomi and Haruno’s work. I can’t say I have the skills to become a clerk for the ADA, either. So maybe it’s for the best.

But…

Can’t I be a student… and experience a normal student life?

Naomi shows me movies and series set in school and I feel… jealous. Jealous whenever she laughs and pauses the movie to tell a tale about her friends at school.

I don’t understand much of what she’s saying, but she gets it. Tanizaki sometimes watches with us and seems to understand, too. From what Atsushi told me, Tanizaki used to be a student before joining the ADA. He must’ve had firsthand experiences like those in the movies.

I wonder if Tanizaki ever regrets leaving school, or if Tanizaki wishes he were a clerk like his sister, instead of being a detective. He’s not the best in the whole detective gimmick as well but he’s surprisingly a quick thinker… Maybe that’s why he’s where he’s at in the ADA right now.

But! There is another 14 year old in the ADA. His name is Kenji Miyazawa. His ability is super strength, and it only works if he’s really hungry, I think? Either way, it’s cool. Kenji’s a farmer and came from a province. I asked him once if he wanted to be a regular student, and not be quit being a detective.

Kenji told me something along the lines of, “I’m fine with not being a student, as long as I’m here with everyone in the Agency. It seems to me that you might want to be a student, no? If you ever enroll somewhere… somewhere like Naomi’s school, do invite me. I know new environments can be scary. I’m I I’m still haven’t having a hard time understanding most city folk. Though I know you’ll do well in school you’d be a great student!

He went on and on about how cool it was that I used to be in the Port Mafia and am now in a better place— the ADA. I simply nod and agree. Everything Kenji was saying was right.

Mother, father, I have a lot of more words to say,  but… I feel myself getting sleepy.

Perhaps, once I fall asleep, you two can visit me in my dreams and we could continue this (one-sided) conversation.

I miss you both everyday. Hopefully once I wake up, I remember the other things I wish to tell you. I’m safe now.

Your daughter,

Kyouka Izumi.
