Chapter Text
Scattered papers surrounded the office, coffice mug stains on the ink. A chair empty at it's desk, computer screen glowing on the Umbrella Corporation Staff log in. The scientist let out a scratched cough, breathing in sharply. They were leaning over the small laboratory space by the sink, starring at the chemicals, as if they had betrayed them somehow.
"I don't want to deal with this, not today...""
Standing straight and huffing out air, they walked and sat down on the chair, flopping their head and arms on the desk instantly. Completely defeated. They'd been awake for twenty three hours now, trying to piece together the files that Birkin had given them, but unfortunately it was becoming ever so clear that they'd have to report to Birkin that they'd lost the documents somehow, Birkin despised being interrupted, and despised them even more.
The young scientist had thought about sending Wesker an email instead, but Wesker wasn't stupid, far from it. He'd know they were avoiding a lecture. Probably end in two that way. Clicking on the keys in a flash, they sent out an overly polite email asking Birkin for another copy of the documents, explaining they'd misplaced them. A knot spun in their stomach as they hit send, praying they'd caught Birkin on a good day. At least they had done something, that's a positive. They hear a light knock at the door, leaning back into the chair they spun themselves to face the entrance of their office, legs pointing out, expecting their nervous assistant to step in, but to their horror
"...having fun, dearheart?"
It was Albert Wesker, and opening the door with a smirk, teasing you. Y/N sat up in the chair instantly, smiling awkwardly
"What? I don't know what you're talking about"
They hummed and turned to face the computer, avoiding his eyes. Wesker shook his head disapprovingly and stepped towards the desk folding his arms
"So, why aren't you in the laboratories?"
The young scientist inhaled and tapped on the keyboard, writing emails to their assistant to grab some coffee, while glancing up at Wesker
"Just looking over the documents before going into it, I'll be there tomorrow"
Wesker raised his brow, clearly he knew something. He leaned down to the screen and placed his hand on the desk. Making the younger one crinkle their nose at him
"Try to look busy all you want, but next time you lose documents, report it. No use in trying to hide things L/N"
Y/N looked at Wesker with a exhausted expression, too tired to play professional. Wesker sighed and stood straight, folding his arms across his chest as before
"Don't give me those eyes... I can get the docu-"
Y/N's expression changed their expression instantly at the words, as if someone had to slapped them in the face with love. Wesker stood silent for a moment before regaining his focus
"I can get the documents...from Birkin's office. But next time..."
Y/N smiled at Wesker warmly, sorting some utensils on their desk
"I'll report it right away, thank you, Wesker"
The room was silent for a moment, the sound of the computer buzzing keeping it bearable. Y/N looked up at Wesker who adjusted his sunglasses and leaned against the wall next to the desk. He looked to the side rather awkwardly, a shyness showing. The young scientist was surprised, leaning their elbows on the desk
"Anything else you need to say, Albert?"
Wesker jolted at the use of his first name, letting out a huff and chuckling
"Wesker, it's Wesker. And yes, forgive me for intruding however..."
He paused for a moment and continued, enticing Y/N
"I noticed you bike home, quite dangerous in times like these..."
Y/N blushed slightly and chuckled, he was being so... adorable? The teasing couldn't be helped
"Times like these...? Hm, yes. I suppose you're right, sir"
Wesker rolled his eyes, though Y/N couldn't see this, his body language was very telling
"Just let me drive you home, L/N. I don't want any harm to come to you. It would backdate the project"
Wesker looked off to the side again, obviously he didn't do this often. Despite being courted by other staff memebrs quite frequently, he always remained very stoic, never really showing any interest. Y/N nodded and stood from their desk
"All right, sounds nice. Can we stop for coffee on the way?"
Wesker smiled slightly and leaned off from the wall
"After a sixteen hour shift, of course, dearheart"
Wesker watched as they put their belongings in a bag, strapping it over their shoulder with a warm smile, he grabbed a few files for them and gestured towards the door
"Now then, let's get you home"
Wesker opened the door for them, mentally slapping himself for being so soft. But he couldn't help himself, he wanted to spoil them rotten. In the best way he could.
