hold my hand (but not too tight)

Summary:

Senior year starts off with a bang at Nevermore Academy and Enid is tired of seeing her best friends Wendesday Addams and Xavier Thorpe dance around each other.

God as her witness, she will see them together by the end of the Senior Smash or die trying!

Or: Enid and Thing hatch a plan to finally get Wednesday and Xavier to admit they're perfect for each other.

Notes:

Welcome to my next fic! For those of you that previously read my one-shot, thank you for sticking with me! I'm very excited about this story and I've been planning it for a long time. A few notes before we get started:

- I've gotten a lot of the this story written already and most of it just needs to be edited. As it stands now, I'm planning roughly 30 chapters (give or take) so I hope you're here for the long haul!
- Tags will update as more chapters upload.
- I will try and upload twice a week to keep things flowing!
- Chapters will mostly alternate POVs between Wednesday and Xavier with the occassional Interlude, which will be in Enid's POV.

Please enjoy the story!

Chapter 1: Interlude 1 (Enid)

Chapter Text

They were doing it again.

From her spot across the quad, Enid practically seethed as she watched Wednesday and Xavier seated close together, noses bent over a book, oblivious to the rest of the students milling around about them. They seemed so lost in their own little world that Enid was sure they wouldn’t have noticed if she wolfed out in front of them. It was only one week into the semester, and she was ready to pull her hair out.
She’d been so sure this summer that it was finally going to happen, that her two best friends were finally going to pull their heads out of their asses and just start making out with each other for God’s sake! Xavier and Bianca were in the off phase of there on-again-off-again thing, and the three of them had been lucky enough to spend the final two weeks before class relaxing at the Addams estate while the rest of the family was gone to visit relatives in Romania.

During their two-week staycation, Enid had made herself as scarce as possible. She’d spent the first three nights out with Ajax, and then the next three evenings with Yoko and then the whole last week playing detective and snooping on them when they weren’t looking because she’d been sure – so sure – that the time alone would do the trick and that they were just hiding it from her because Wednesday had always been a little shy in the relationship department.

But nothing had happened. She’d never seen anything and by the time the other Addams’ had returned it was almost the beginning of the semester and she thought that she was going to absolutely lose her mind.
It was their Senior Year this year, and when summer came this time, there’d be no returning to Nevermore in the fall. They’d be out of chances and Enid was NOT about to let that happen. Wednesday and Xavier were her best friends and while, yes, they were both quite stupid and unobservant of their own emotions, she loved them dearly and only wanted what was best for them.

And for the last two years she’d been waiting, just waiting, and thinking that it wouldn’t be long before one of them finally cracked and then the other one would crack too and they’d get together and everything would be right in the world, everything in its proper place and Enid would finally, finally be able to rest easy (and win her long standing bet with Kent and Yoko, but really, that wasn’t the main point here).
But now it was Senior Year, and they were running out of time. The year had just begun, but soon there’d be the Poe Cup and then the Rave’N, and then the Senior Smash and then final exams and before she or any of them knew it, the year would be over, and they’d be graduating, and Wednesday and Xavier would still be separated and clueless.

No.

No, Enid was not going to let that happen, not over her dead body. She’d shave off all her hair and pluck out every single eyebrow and lash before she let that happen.

Xavier and Wednesday were going to admit their feelings for each other this year. By graduation, they’d be a real couple.

Enid would make sure of that.
