Chapter Text

Chapter 1:
Kara sighed and rolled over in her comfortable bed when she heard the sirens go off. Using her super hearing she zeroed in on the police scanners.

“..we have a 10-65 at Broadway and 10th. Suspect large Caucasian male, holding partner at gunpoint after domestic dispute.”

Kara jumped into action, quickly finding her super suit, and pulling her hair down from her ponytail. She pushed her bedroom window open lightly and flew into the night.

She arrived at the scene in just a few seconds, floating 200 feet in the air and quickly taking stock of the situation. There were three police cruisers in front of the historic apartments, with officers crouched behind the doors of their vehicles and guns trained steadily toward the entrance of the old brick building. She could see the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) setting up halfway down the block to establish communication with the abductor and the SWAT teams setting up just right of the entrance door with two snipers settling on each rooftop opposite the building. She then used her x-ray vision to establish the location of the abductor and abductee. It looked like they were on the second floor, with the hostage sitting in a chair and the abductor sitting on a couch opposite with a gun in his hand as he nervously bounced his foot up and down like he was waiting for something. As far as she could tell, he was not actively pointing the gun at the female, but it did look like she had her arms tied behind her, so maybe he wasn’t worried she would escape. She quickly did a further scan on the woman and sighed in relief when she noted there were no broken bones and no active bleeds besides a small seeping wound on her cheek.

She floated down to the HNT center and spotted Maria just inside the large van that housed their equipment.

“Hello Maria. It’s never nice that we meet under these circumstances, but I am glad this is in your hands tonight. I don’t think I could have dealt with Daryl tonight.” Supergirl stated.

“Good early morning Supergirl. Did you take stock of the situation and get me some intel?” asked Maria as she rubbed her hand tiredly over her face.

“Yes ma’am, it appears to be the hostage and abductor on the second floor at the third window from the left. The hostage appears to be in good health currently and the abductor is just sitting on the couch next to her with a gun in his hand. He seems oddly calm. They aren’t talking and the hostage is sitting still, probably tied to the chair in the middle of the room. The door appears barricaded but there is a window that is unlatched and looks easy enough to slip into. Has he accepted any contact from you?” Supergirl questioned.

“No, he has refused any communication from us. Do you think you could slip through the window and get to him without him noticing you?” Maria asked with a cautious tone.

“It shouldn’t be a problem. Like I said, the window is open already and he is facing away from the hallway I would follow to get to him. Once I am in the hallway I can superspeed to him and grab the gun without any incident. I will send an all clear once I have him secured. Does this work for you and your team?” Supergirl asked as she inconspicuously placed her hands on her hips in her standard power stance.

“Absolutely. No casualties and no breaking any of the building if you can avoid it. I already get enough flack at the station for letting you help us.” Maria replied with a small sigh at the end.

“Wouldn’t dream of it Maria. Back in a jiffy!” Supergirl said she quickly took off back into the air. She made sure to avoid the window’s vision that the abductor was in and quickly grabbed the sill of the partially open window, sliding it up enough to fit herself in. Once in the room she remained floating so she wouldn’t alert the abductor just down the hall. She gently opened the door, praying to Rao that it wouldn’t squeak. Her prayers were answered, and she floated quietly down the hall. The hostage of course happened to look up as she began her flight toward the pair and startled, making Supergirl’s job suddenly a lot harder. She sped up and turned the corner to see the assailant shifting into a standing position and lifting the pistol up toward the hostage. Supergirl flew over the couch and grabbed the gun from the assailant, effectively destroying it in her grip. She grabbed the abductor’s collar and lifted him off the floor. “It’s time for you to go to jail.” She said with authority. Her brow creased in confusion as she noticed that it was none other than Otis Graves. He smiled at her with a wicked grin and glanced behind her.

As she turned to look over her shoulder, she felt her stomach turn as she recognized the victim as none other than Mercy Graves. Mercy was already descending on Supergirl with a needle in her hand. Supergirl released Otis and turned to grab Mercy’s hand to stop the onslaught. Mercy growled at her and smiled as she pressed a button that was placed on the inside of her hand near Supergirl’s face, effectively releasing a kryptonite powder into Supergirl’s eyes. Supergirl staggered back for a split second, and Mercy, known for her quick hands dropped the needle from the arm being held by Supergirl to her now released right hand and jabbed the needle into Supergirl’s neck. Supergirl, who was now effectively blind for the moment, clapped her hands together, sending Mercy sprawling into the opposite wall. Supergirl turned toward the last place she had seen Otis, tuning in to his heart beat, and released her freeze breath where she thought his feet should be. She heard a thud as his feet stuck to the floor and he face planted a few feet away from her. She gently rubbed her eyes, trying to get rid of the kryptonite. She opened her eyes and could blurrily see a body lying a few feet away from her, a small crater in the wall where Mercy had impacted. Kara had neutralized the current threat so she decided to go to the DEO to get checked for whatever substance had been injected into her. Plus, she could spend some time in the sunbed until the sun came out. She flew out the window and signaled to Maria it was safe to enter. Maria gave her a wave of thanks and had her teams descend on the building rapidly.

Supergirl floated in front of Maria and gave her a report of the events that transpired inside the building. Maria nodded her understanding and told her to go get checked out. Supergirl gave one last nod and flew up into the sky.
