Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Hajime Hinata grits his teeth at the sound of Komaeda whispering in his ear yet again.
It was the third time in a row in the past twenty minutes.

“What’s the answer to number 4?” Nagito asked this time.

“None of your business, Komaeda.”

“Whatever, I don’t need your help anyway.” Nagito retorted back.

Hajime hated sitting in front of Nagito in their math class. He was nothing but trouble, constantly asking Hajime for answers to questions and being a nuisance and distraction to Hajime.
Hajime had asked his teacher, Mr. Monokuma if he could change seats but Mr. Monokuma had said he thought the seating arrangement was already in a state of perfection. Many students at Jabberwock High much preferred Ms. Monomi, the school’s English teacher. Unlike Mr. Monokuma, She was very nice.
Hajime actually enjoyed her class. They had been reading a really great book and Hajime was excited to discuss it with his book partner, Kazuichi.

Hajime’s thoughts about Nagito and his English class had been interrupted by the sound of the bell. Time for lunch.

Hajime got up and left his math classroom to leave for lunch.

Then Nagito stopped him in the middle of the hallway.

“Why won’t you tell me the answer to number 4?” Nagito asked.
“Because I don’t want to and it’s technically cheating,” Hajime answered.
“You’re mean, you know that Hajime? I thought friends were supposed to help each other.”
Nagito said in a condescending tone.

“Well, I don’t really consider us to be friends anyway,” Hajime said back.
Nagito laughed and walked away, leaving Hajime unsure of what to think.

God, he’s so annoying. Hajime thought to himself.

Hajime had really started to dread going to math class.
