Work Text:
Kyra sat curled on their bed, silently thinking. She didn’t know why she even had any doubts. She knew he loved her. He made sure to tell her everyday, but the negative thoughts still stuck with her.
Why should he love you, you don’t even know how to say it back…
You never say how you’re feeling, I bet he gets tired of having to deal with your sad, bitter thoughts…
Why would he ever love someone like you..
Someone so secretive…
Someone so dull…
Someone who doesn’t know how to handle their emotions..
You lash out..
You hurt others…
You say you’re doing it to protect them..
Yourself…
But, are you really..?
Do you really care about them..?
Or are you just trying to keep yourself safe…
You’re a monster, a freak..
You’re selfish…
Weak..
Nothing…
The more her thoughts built up, the faster her breathing got. She started spiraling further and further into the endless void of her thoughts. She could hardly breathe anymore. The negative words her mind spewed were suffocating and blinding her like a fog.
Her claws started digging into her skin as she clutched her head, clenching her eyes shut, curling up even tighter. She wanted everything to stop. Everything to fade away. The thoughts, the feelings, the doubts, everything. She just wanted everything to stop, at least for a moment.
Her wish came true when Paradox opened the trapdoor leading to their room. Her head jolted up, scrambling to show no signs of how frazzled she actually was. To no avail, he noticed immediately, his face contorting into one of concern.
“..Kyra? Honey, what’s wrong?” He said, rushing over to her.
“Wh- Uhh, It’s nothing..I’m fine, really..” She stuttered out, her eyes flitting around the room, looking at anything but his eyes.
Paradox’s eyebrows furrowed, taking his hands and gently tilting her head to look him in the eyes.
“..Look at me..please..” His voice was gentle as he stared into her eyes with nothing but love and concern, “You know you can always talk to me..I’m always here..”
“I-“ She choked out, looking into his eyes and seeing the desperation swirling through them. His hands rested upon her face as tears clouded her vision. He watched as she broke down and spilled all the dark, vicious thoughts that plagued her mind. She sobbed out all of her worries, all the fears, the negative thoughts, the lies that her mind conceived.
He pulled her in a tight embrace, keeping her together, keeping her from fully breaking apart and shattering. He held her gently, her sobs shaking her body.
After what felt like hours, the only thing left in her system were quiet sniffles. Her eyes drooping at the breakdown she just had, not even having the energy to pull away from him.
“..Are you alright now, my dear?” He asked, his nails lightly scratching her head in a soothingly calm motion.
“..Mhm..” She murmured softly, giving a slight nod.
Her eyes slid shut, as Paradox gently laid her down on the bed. Crouching down, he ran his fingers through her fur, before pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
“Goodnight, love. No dark thoughts shall haunt you tonight..” He murmured quietly, before slipping into bed next to her. Wrapping his arms around her, and protecting her from anymore dark thoughts.
