Work Text:

Paradox sat on the edge of their-

No, his , bed…thinking about that moment, they thought it would be a good thing, a good idea…

A chance for her to be happy, to not worry about his influence…

He never meant for this to happen, he should’ve been smarter. His mind flashed back to that moment, that point in time, where he tried to separate them.

——————————————

“You ready?” Paradox said, looking over the spell one last time.

“Yep, whenever you’re ready..”

He started chanting, reading through the ritual. The flames started rising,  burning brighter than ever. Kyra fell to the ground, clutching her head, digging her claws enough to bleed.

He had to physically restrain himself from rushing to her.

Little did he know, how much that one mistake would cost everything…

When Paradox finished the spell, the flames dimmed, eventually dying completely.

“Kyra..? Hun? Are you alright? Did it work?”

She didn’t moved, just breathing heavily. Hesitantly walking over to her, crouching down, he placed a hand on her back.

“Kyra..?” he whispered, voice shaking. She looked up, her eyes dazed, “..Para..?” her voice was weak, barely a whisper, before her eyes rolled to the back of her head, body going limp.

“Kyra!!” he called, eyes growing wide. He sprinted back into the house, grabbing a health potion, then running back out to her body.

“No, no, no…c’mon hun, stay with me, please..I can’t lose you..I wont..” his muttering continued as he poured the potion down her throat.

Moving to check her pulse, he placed his fingers upon her neck, finding it.

It was slow and faint.

Growing fainter.

“Shit-“ he was panicking even more now, tears building in his eyes.

“C’mon Kyra, please, Don’t- don’t leave me..c’mon, just wake up..” his voice shaking as he spoke, tears started streaming down his face.

“Pl- please..” sobs started bubbling out of his throat, his body shaking. He’s lived for over a thousand years now, he can’t lose the one person he’s felt most happy with, she was supposed to stay with him. She was supposed to be happy, to be free.

Kyra blearily opened her eyes. “Para..” she rasped out.

“Kyra! Oh my gosh, you’re okay! Oh my gosh, oh my g-“

Kyra interrupted him.

“Para, I’m sorry…” her eyes filled with tears, voice softly shaking.

“..what?” his voice was small, tears rebuilding.

“‘m sorry..” she said, her voice fading.

“n-no, I should be sorry, I should be the one apologizing, no you have to- I can’t- You-“ he stuttered, voice cracking.

She didn’t respond.

“Kyra..?”

Still nothing.

“N-No, this can’t be-“ he choked out, breath getting faster.

‘N-no, no no no, I can’t- please, no no-‘

He sobbed harder than before, throat closing with grief, he checked her pulse.

Nothing.

Paradox’s entire body was shaking, hyperventilating and sobbing, he let out the most gut-wrenching scream.

He pleaded, begged for her to wake up, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

Overwhelming grief filled him, clutching her body, he sobbed into her chest.

——————————————

Paradox snapped out of his memories, looking out the window.

‘night..’

‘I should probably head to bed…’

Laying down on her side of the bed, he curled further into the sheet, sobs wracking his body as he fell asleep, wishing he could feel her warmth, one last time.

Oh the woes of being immortal…
