Work Text:
There's an irritating sting on the side of Enid Sinclair's stomach.
She's leaning on the tree. She's covered in blood and the adrenaline running in her veins slowly dissipated, allowing her to welcome the agonizing aftermath of the fight.
She huffed. "He got me." She couldn't help but let out a chuckle. It's strange. She didn't expect for it to happen. One moment she's wondering where Wednesday was and suddenly she goes completely berserk when she sees her pinned down and a few inches away from death.
She doesn't bother paying attention where the hell that stupid Hyde is. It's probably laying beside her, maybe somewhere knocked out deeper into the woods, she doesn't know.
"Darn it."
At least Wednesday's okay.
Enid feels sick. Every time she closes her eyes, she can see the face of the monster who almost killed Wednesday and possibly her as well.
"Knew he was a piece of shit." She murmured to no one. Every time she opens her mouth, something in her body throbs painfully.
When she attempts to stand by moving her arm, a sharp pain pierced through, causing her to jolt and collapse helplessly on the ground.
Her lips part and she finds herself desperately gasping for air. Did I break my arm? Surely not, she landed on all fours when she was thrown in the air.
The pain is slowly becoming unbearable. She's in a vulnerable position. She can't look around. Not when her back is laying on the ground she steps on.
"Fuck." Tears gather in her eyes. She can't move. It hurts too much.
"Wednesday." She sobbed. "Help me."
Wednesday's not coming. She already left to go back to Nevermore.
The mere thought of dying alone was enough to scare her.
She's cold, alone, in pain, and unable to move. This was far more scary than she imagined.
The tears don't stop streaming down her bruised cheeks. She doesn't want to talk, it's making her feel nauseous. The last thing she needed was for her to puke all over the spot and for someone to discover her body drowned in a pool of blood and vomit.
So Enid Sinclair lays in the woods. Helpless and unguarded. On the verge of death.
What an end.
She considers closing her eyes. Maybe if she sleeps it off, she's going to be fine in the morning. it always works when she feels sick.
Footsteps. Her ears perked up and she realized that there was still some of her wolf features that she failed to bring back after wolfing out.
The footsteps sounded loud and quiet at the same time. Each crunch of the fallen leaves made her feel uneasy. The pace the passerby chose is terrifying.
They're getting awfully close and Enid's tail stiffens when she thought What if the Hyde is came back?
Oh god, she's going to die. She's going to die here. Her body's going to be mauled and will be displayed everywhere.
I don't want to die. It's getting closer. Enid can feel it. It's looming over her, maybe thinking of ways how to dispose of her body.
"En—"
No no no no. I don't want to die.
Her claws come out, she can't see anything through her glassy, unfocused eyes. "No." She whimpered.
I don't want to die. Please, I want to live. I want to live. I want to live.
Acid starts to scratch at her throat. She's panicking. She's a helpless ball of fear, quivering in pure terror. She can't breath.
She can taste salt in her mouth but she couldn't care less about that. She was going to get mangled to death at this very moment.
A hand touches her hair. "Enid, it's okay. You're safe." She flinched at the contact. She can't think. She's too afraid and injured.
"Enid. I'm here."
The reassurance fall on deaf ears. She can't even recognize who was talking to her. "Wednesday." She gasped through choked sobs. "Wednesday."
She doesn't know why she's calling out for the only daughter of the Addams. It just sounded nice to say. At least she'll be able to do something she likes to do before she meets her end.
"I'm here." The voice responded, cupping her cheek. The touch is soft, so gentle, it was so unlike the girl she shares a room with.
"I'm here, Enid. I'm here."
Wednesday Addams doesn't know what to do. She's kneeling and unable to think of a solution to the problem.
The sight of the strong, brave, and optimistic Enid Sinclair be reduced to this shaking, crying mess made her chest tighten that she believed that it was a symptom of an upcoming heart attack.
Enid doesn't look like she's listening. She's gasping and choking on her tears even after Wednesday had announced her presence.
It makes Wednesday feel this awful boil in the depths of her stomach. It's unpleasant.
She carefully puts both of her hands on each side of Enid's head, taking a deep breath before she lifts it up to place it on her lap.
Enid lets out a pained cry at that.
"I got caught up with something." Wednesday murmured. "I was late."
The werewolf only sniffled, eyes squeezed shut.
"Where does it hurt?" Wednesday whispered, brushing away the hair that covered Enid's face. She could clearly see the blood now.
"E-Every.. where.."
"Everywhere hurts?"
Enid hums.
Wednesday can't do anything but caress Enid's cheeks to wipe the vermillion off of the scarred porcelain skin. Enid's in an extremely fragile state, risking another movement from her might cause more damage than help.
For once, Wednesday Addams felt hopeless.
It took her back to when she was six years old when her pet scorpion had been killed in front of her.
Except this time no one was holding her back — no one was stopping her from saving what she treasured. She was simply unmoving.
"As much as I adore death, I do not wish for you to meet him yet."
It's a poor attempt of comfort but Wednesday didn't know what else to say.
She takes a moment to analyze Enid's current condition.
Her shirt is ripped by multiple claw marks. Wednesday can clearly see that it had pierced through the fabric and tore flesh. It stretched from her stomach then down to her waist, creating a severe slit. Blood seeped through the rest of Enid's clothing, pooling underneath them.
Wednesday could tell that Enid was very much frightened by this. And so was she because she expected Enid to bleed rainbows or something.
Instead it's dark vermillion.
"Live, Enid Sinclair."
Enid is still shaking uncontrollably. Wednesday's lip trembles. "Do you wish to hear me?" Enid's breath hitched. "Y-Yes." She managed to respond through uneven gasps. "Talk. K-Keep.. Keep talk—" She whimpered.
"You will live, hermosa." Wednesday whispered. "Yo te protegeré, mi amor."
"Lo siento."
Maybe it was the heat of the moment, maybe she let her emotions get the best of her, but Wednesday leans down to press a chaste kiss on her roommate's forehead.
She's cradling Enid's head so meticulously, mouth open to sing songs until medics arrived.
And when they did, Wednesday Addams never let them separate her from Enid.
