The sun
Both of them had been, or were, the sun to him. Brilliant, warm, grandiose, but not too imposing. Bright, kind, and his mere presence lit up the room like dozens of fires.
Unpredictable, strong, a burning fire lit inside him. Blinding, fierce, unreachable.
And he was the moon, pale reflection shining in the still waters of the ocean. Only blooming by night, hidden from prying eyes, hidden from those he yearned for.
As he was the night, he was the day. Luminary and standing proud. Yet the other was a shell, the echo left from a star in the past. The one that lit up his days, and gave him light to brighten his nights had extinguished. Banished. Engulfed by the same darkness that surrounded Giyuu.
Giyuu Tomioka, a lonely boy who had to grow up before his time. Silent, expressionless, stiff and blue. A distorted reflection of his master, the man that had taken him under his wing after death had claimed his sister. The same man who had given him his loyal companion, Kanzaburo. An old crow, frail and feeble animal, one of the kindest souls he had ever encountered. The one that always accompanied him on his missions and listened to him in those long nights full of regrets and sorrows.
And then there was Tanjiro, a small ember in comparison with his sun, but bright nonetheless. Small, warming its way into his heart, making him see the light at the end of the tunnel. Making his existence more bearable. Him and his sister, an odd pair, but one that held so much potential, so much hope for the world of the demon slayers. A bright and fresh future to look forward to.
Since he’d encountered them in the mountains, his world had been turned upside down. It had been years since he’d taken such a big responsibility upon himself; the first one being when he begrudgingly accepted the position of water pillar. A position he felt Sabito deserved more.
Sabito.Sabito.Sabito
Sabito, the sun who lit up his days, taken away by a demon Tomioka couldn’t kill. Sabito, who, in his own way, made Giyuu’s “childhood” bearable. Sabito, whom he had spent years mourning for.
Rengoku.Rengoku.Rengoku.Rengoku
The man who, without his permission, had lit a spark of fire in his heart. A fire that was now eating him alive, yearning for more.
Desperate and in need of another sun, as the moon, without one, is just a cold lightless body hanging in the sky.
