Mating Ritual
“I’m telling you, Master has finally found the mate he wants!” Mocha exclaimed.
“How can you be so sure?” Mochi asked doubtfully.
“Clearly he has been singing for him, giving him shiny tokens and showing off his wings!” Mocha stated.
“But he has done that for many others as well! And clearly, he didn’t want them as mates!” Mochi objected.
“Yeah! He’s always playing around and showing off, but never serious with his mating rituals. It’s probably the same this time.” Manju added in support of Mochi.
“You doves don’t get it. Have you seen him do that to the same person so many times? And he always takes a longer time with that person!” Mocha was not convinced by them.
“We all agree that his mating ritual has always been out of the norm, such as giving back the shiny tokens he worked so hard to obtain, singing but not wanting others to find him, and sometimes hiding instead of showing off his wings. Or maybe he is just picky with the mate he wants. But generally, the main idea is still there. Now, let’s slowly analyze what happened with that person. Instead of giving back the shiny tokens he obtained, he gives them to that person. He would sing for that person sometimes deliberately and show off his wings right before that person every time and his flight skills. I believe that shows a lot.” The analytical Latte gave them a full explanation with evidence in support of Mocha words.
“All of you are not being rational. Why are you using our standards on him? Pretty sure those featherless have a different mating ritual.” Choco was unimpressed with their bickering.
“Master is clearly different. Look at how flashy he is to get the attention of so many of his kind. He’s mating just like us! Why else would we help him? He just needs some help with his mating ritual before he reaches the proficiency of our kind.” Mocha declared.
“I still think you’re being ridiculous. Even if Master is truly trying to mate, that person clearly isn’t interested judging by how he is always kicking something at Master.” Choco said.
“That’s where you’re wrong!” Mocha exclaimed. “You can’t just look at one aspect. Are you ignoring all the time he admires Master’s mating ritual before he kicks something? He must be shy. Oh! He must be provoking Master to show off his wings and flight skills!”
“Dove, his imagination is getting more and more out of wing!” Mochi lamented.
“Not an imagination if it’s the truth. Plus, I do have actual proof!” Mocha did not back down.
“What proof?” Manju challenged.
“Don’t you doves remember the last mating ritual? Before that person kicked, they exchanged tokens!! Then, hasn’t Master been going out a lot recently? I suspected something, so I asked Dango to keep track of Master to see if he was meeting with that person and Dango said yes!” Mocha shared excitedly.
The doves that didn’t believe Mocha coo out their disbelief.
“Believe me! When Dango comes back, you doves can ask him!”
*flapping noises*
A dove flew in through the gaps of the window and landed beside the group of doves.
“Just in time Dango! Master has been meeting that person, hasn’t he? Tell them!” Mocha looked at Dango and said.
“Yeah. About that, Master is actually coming back with that person now. Get ready doves.” Dango said.
Kaito opened the door to his home and was welcomed by the sight of his doves staring at him. It was the everyday life of a magician owning many doves, but he was surprised by how quiet they were since they were usually cooing.
Regardless, today is a special day. He is bringing someone to his home today, that someone being Tantei-kun. He couldn’t believe that he was actually bringing a detective to his home, and on his own volition.
No matter, he wouldn’t be KID if he stuck to doing normal things. Plus, Tantei-kun wasn’t just any detective. He was his detective. They are already beyond the typical phantom thief and detective.
“Come on in Tantei-kun.”
“Sorry for the intrusion.”
Kaito readied the indoor slippers for him before leading him upstairs to his room.
“Let’s go up. I’ve got something to show you!”
“See what I told you doves? He even brought that person back to his nest! That person is his mate!” Mocha proudly exclaimed.
“That person is not the only person that entered Master’s nest. This still doesn’t prove anything!” Mochi was still denying Mocha’s claims.
“You just don’t want to admit you’re wrong!” Mocha scoffed.
A while later, after the two humans have settled down for a while…
“Now, you can’t refute me anymore. Look, they are even preening each other! I’m sure that person is the only one Master has preened!” Mocha fluffed his feathers smugly.
“...”
“...”
“... Fine, you win.” The doves admitted defeat.
