Chapter Text
Papa invited uncle Elijah for Christmas dinner.
It surprised her as much as it pleased her. She didn’t mind her uncle, why would he bother her?
So when he came, as always clad in his black suit, papa delegated her to show him around while he and Eva finished preparing their meal. Jasmine snatched him right up from the doorstep. From there she showed him their library, the music room, her room and then the magic lab. She babbled at him mostly with a sunny demeanor while he listened and questioned her when needed.
She mostly babbled because he was tense and awkward. Jasmine was good at dealing with awkward people.
Jasmine wouldn’t see his nervousness if her instincts and magic didn’t flare up with a sudden certainty as soon as she saw him. But she felt it and so she knew.
It started to be interesting when they finally returned to the living room where they would be eating.
Eva looked good, Jasmine noticed. She had a deep A-line green dress with gold accents, a matching dress jacket and black heels. Eva never wore much makeup but today she had deep red lipstick, black liner, some contour, blush and highlighter on. Her already long lashes seemed even longer than usual.
Jasmine wanted to be as pretty as Eva one day. Or as pretty as her mother had been.
(Not that Jasmine looked bad in her navy and silver apron dress with her white long-sleeved shirt. Not that Jasmine even wanted to wear a dress today but her papa insisted. He was adamant she needed to look more put together than usual. He even wrangled her hair to be semi-tamed.)
It seemed that Uncle Elijah liked how Eva looked if the way he stared at the woman was any indication. And he was staring, like really staring. His face was mostly locked in polite neutrality but the intensity of the way he observed Eva was something else.
While Jasmine didn’t know much about romance or anything, she was not stupid.
She decided to do something about it.
‘Uncle Elijah, Eva.’ she introduced them without any fanfare. ‘She’s my friend.’ she informed her uncle with a look.
He either ignored her look or had no idea what she had on her mind.
‘It’s a pleasure to meet you, miss Eva.’ he said smoothly and took Eva’s hand to kiss it in greeting.
‘A pleasure is mine, mister Mikaelson.’ Eva replied in the same tone.
The woman looked at the Original just as intensely and there was some spark in her eyes.
‘Just Elijah is fine, miss Eva.’ the older vampire assured softly.
‘Elijah then.’ Eva agreed.
Jasmine decided she was not needed at the moment. With a giggle, she slipped out of the room and dashed to the kitchen where her papa was stirring something in the pot on the stove. As she entered he looked at her with amusement.
He seemed to want to say something but Jasmine’s giggles only intensified. Wanting to muffle her sounds she embraced her papa from behind and hid her face in his vest.
‘You’re a menace.’ he told her fondly but returned to his cooking.
Jasmine didn’t mind being called a menace, not when her papa said it.
And if she got an aunt out of it? All the better.
